IOT Developmental Thread

I think Doulbe A meant "Rock Paper Scissors" by RPS. Speaking of that, I have a new idea, a stroy. After every update, the mod, instead of saying "NEW ROUND", they would do something NES styled and write an un-biased update story, detailing the various events, like diplomacy, battles, stories, etc.

It sounds cool, but if the IOT gets as out of control as this one did, it'll be a pain to write. However, if somebody is willing to, I'm all for it!

Uh... what else would I have meant?

Back towards the start of IOT, Cull attempted to drag me in, but I refrained, thinking that the idea was too simple and sounded boring.

Well, I couldn't have been more wrong!!!!! If there's a restart, I'm joining.

EDIT: I'm obviously new to all of this IOT stuff. Instead of reading through this forum, could someone explain to me what the differences between IOT II and IOT V are? I hope this doesn't break the no IOT II discussion rule, but if it does, just VM me. Thanks in advance.

I'll give you some leniency since your new, but this is the last discussion of IOT II in this thread.

IOT II is Tancicus' version of the game using new rules he developed. He claims it's the "authoritarian" version of the game (as he is in total control of the rules).

IOT V on the other hand (alternatively named ICF), will be the community developed version. We come up with ideas for new rules, and we will vote on them. It's the "democratic" version of the game.

Alright, now back on topic.

@Omega: Added to the OP

@Double A: Sorry, I didn't realize RPS mean Rock Paper Scissors

And actually, I just came up with 2 ideas too:

1) Spice Events: To "spice" up the game from becoming too monotonous, the GM (or alternatively a cabinet member) can report real-world events and put them into the game. Ex: If a big Earthquake happens in RL, then it can also "happen" in the game, having political consequences and such.

2) Expansion during war: One of the problems I had with expansion/war in the last version was that people at war could still expand at the normal rate. This of course, combined with how slow war was, would have made it impossible to conquer another state, as they would just keep expanding and expanding. So to curb that (and also to make war a little less attractive), I'd say either make it so the your expansion points per update are severely cut or just make it so you can't expand when you're at war.

That sounds like a great idea, Joe. Warriors are not colonists and it would give peaceful nations a chance to expand as well.

The other name we'd come up with, in similarly butchered dog Latin, was Imperium Civfanaticum.

Cabinet as in the "President's Cabinet" In RL, it's the secratary of defense, secratary of state, etc. In the game, it will be a way of dividing up the GM's responsibilities so one person might make the official maps, another will run war, another will give a summary, etc. I like the idea and volunteer to make the summaries. How long will it be to get the new game up? I'm trying to decide if I want to look into the game I'm not supposed to be talking about.

Lol, why not just NES.. that all this is evolving into....

As a matter of fact, I do NES. I'm just doing this story suggestions because I want a plot.

Also, new suggestion, after the Math crisis, I propose that if you quit, you can't rejoin at all until the next IOT.

MY SUGGESTION: Nations can only attack a province x number of times before either taking a penalty in attacking, or being disallowed from attacking entirely or just that specific province for a certain amount of time. My biggest problem with war last time was there was no penalty for failure on the attack, meaning war was two sides throwing their armies into the meat grinder in one province ad infinitum or until someone got bored.

No, NES are even more complicated. Unbelievably so.

The Nintendo Entertainment System is pretty old, so what does it have to do with Imperium Offtopicum?

9 pages discussing rules and you say NES are complicated?

Its cute, an I can see how this is going to evolve. You are going to come up with the same answers we did eventually. (I'm not being smug, the answers arn't very good, but darned if we can think of a better way!)

Its good you have ToL to mod.. why not get a number of games going?

My suggestions:
- have one thread for role-playing, and one thread for official messages (claims, alliances, wars, ...) were you can only post one message per update.
- points should not only be spent on claims but also on wars, technology, economy, navy etc.
- to distance itself from the other version, the game should start in the year 1500.

On Kasshyyyk!

No, really, how awesome would that be? We'd all have to communicate in war cries though...
