King Mnguni was pleased. The consolidation of the entire southern part of the Great Continent was almost complete. His settlers only needed to bring a few straggling territories into the fold and the entire region would be united.
He also had recently received some good news. A band of warriors had set off into the dark interior several years ago, but no one had heard from them since. It was feared that they were lost to some terrible beast or other malady. This group miraculously returned to the great kingdom, and told stories of a vast empty wilderness, but also of a coast to the north. This coast was not yet inhabited by any of the great tribes, but had some interesting animals that had a fluffy, thick fur. Fur that could be used for making cloth.
But more importantly, this group of warriors met the local inhabitants, who told of other great peoples on the far side of the sea. Perhaps this new land would be a good place to settle so as to have an outpost to trade the wonders and riches of the Great Kingdom to these other great tribes, but at much lower distances and costs. A new settling expedition was sent out to find and secure this land for the King.
The King was also pleased with his scientists. The recent boost in funding for research had paid off, and now being able to sail across the sea and settle new lands was almost realized. One more push and this new technology would be his.
Several more ships had been seen off the coast of the Great Kingdom, but unfortunately none had come close enough to the shore to see that the great piles of ivory available to trade. Something needed to be done about this, so the King directed that a magnificent trade center be built on the shore to attract these passing ships.
