Persia has seemingly expanded haphazardly into neighboring regions. However, this came with a purpose: Persia now holds the largest variety of rare trade goods, and yields as much opium every year as both Shanghai and Malacca put together. As such, Persia announces it shall buy XPs from other countries in exchange opium, other trade goods, and/or money each turn. Only 2/3 of Persian opium shall be available as trade goods: Persians shall always have a guaranteed supply of the amazing narcotic for personal use.

4MP into the completion of the Great Library, largest (and greatest) of its kind in the mortal world. 9.5MP into the construction of a basic armory, which will soon be used to create superb weapons for the great Persian army. (note: if I don't have a level 1 trade building, please take 5MP from my armory and put it into the trade building)
Finally, Persia lays claim to these regions, marked in brown.
Darius is only expanding so far north as to gain a supply of timber, and assures its future northern neighbors that it is as far north as Persia ever plans on expanding.

After years of kicking around invading minor Khanates, the Khan has turned towards the Baltic. He has his place in the rain of Europe now, with the new Baltic Noyanate Being assigned to a noble friend.
The flag of the Baltic Noyanate. The purple cresent with blue background stands for the Khanate, the light purple for the European Khaganate, and the Brown stands for the Baltic Noyanate. The text is Arabic (duh) and means Grace of God.

The Khan sees the Byzantine Baltic as an opportunity to bring all cultures together, whether it is Byzantine or Mongol, Scandinavian or German.

You should have thought about staying out of others affairs when you crossed into the Balkans, Pope.

The Pope looked ordered some opium to come to be examined by him. He studied it, and found it to be unholy. Promoting many evils, bringing out the worst in humans. He decided that the only way to keep true Christianity pure was to ban the production and trade of Opium in all Catholic nations.

The Pope is foolish to ban opium without even using it. Darius and his son Xerxes are both casual users of the substance. All that is needed to prevent undesirable effects is self-discipline, something the Pope apparently thinks his subjects lack.
