.....The Stealth Flying Boat!

Iran said Tuesday it had tested what it called a "super-modern flying boat" capable of evading radar. State TV showed a brief clip of the boat's launch.

"Due to its advanced design, no radar at sea or in the air can detect it. It can lift out of the water," the television said. It said the boat was "all Iranian-made and can launch missiles with precise targeting while moving."

On Monday Iran said it tested a second new radar-avoiding missile during war games in the Persian Gulf that the military says are aimed at preparing the country's defenses against the United States.

The new surface-to-sea missile is equipped with remote-control and searching systems, the state-run television reported Tuesday.

Quiver in fear of the mighty flying boat!

Bah, don't you play civ, nothing trumps nukes unless its a :spear: situation. If it's not then Iran's still got a long way to go.

It's worthless as a weapon if it can't evade the news media. :)

In other news, the United States began making modifications to its SDI defense system. While the exact nature of the upgrades is classified, there have been sightings of reporters strapped to the receivers on the radar dishes.....

This has been a Faux News live update!

Carriers have a nice point defense system called Phalanx. I wouldn't worry about the carriers

I say we fire to photon torpedoes into its ventilation shaft that connects to the energy core. That always works in the movies.

It says it's never been credited with shooting down an enemy aircraft or missile in combat. But I don't know much about it so I can't attest to it's reliability.

It also says it relies on a radar system but the source in the first post says the "Superweapon" avoids all radar on land and sea.

As well as the flying boat they have also tested 4 other missiles so far in the last couple of days, one of them called the Hoot(whale) a underwater sonar-evading missile capable of going 375 kilometers per hour -- three or four times faster than conventional torpedoes, the only other missile like this is a Russian one called the Shkval which has about the same speed with a range of 6kms, The hoot is also stealth which they say could blow a warship in 2 easily.
So my guess is that they got this missile from Russia, along with the other ones as they are very similar to Russian missiles, then reverse enginered it to be able to mass produce it, something Iran excels at.
We all know russia is a major supplier to Iran with a 1 billion dollar deal to supply 26 tor anti missile systems by the end of this year, this system is one of the most accurate there is, apparently better than the Patriot. I doubt this though.
But for them to sell Iran Stealth technology of the above calibre etc will be a worry for america imo. Where will russia draw the line as to what it sells?

Even though Iran is making all these extraodinary claims about its missile breakthough obviuosly timed to the fear of being attacked, its hard to tell just how accurate these reports are, as they have exagerated a lot about its weapons in the past.

I wonder if its making america and israel more hesitant about attacking as they have got a lot of capabilite to do a lot of damage to them both(not America land but in Iraq).

Also something interesting i thought was Iran having a sattelite that Russia launched for them one day before the remarks regarding Isreal being wiped off the map, though just a small one it was the start of what Iran regards as its drive to space.

Apperently one of the latest strategies for launching there own sattelites is attaching a Shahab 2 and 3 together, while theoritacally possible it wont be easy, but having recently mastered the usage of solid fuel in there rockets it makes it possible, that would also give them a missile possible of reaching the us.

Just a few thoughts.

That is quite funny. I'd buy it for a yacht.

It looks like something out of an Ed Wood movie. Chances are it has about an equal shot at sinking one of our ships.

Why does Iran think it can even last about... oh... one hour against America in a war?
Maybe because we're about to withdraw in defeat from Iraq...

hm, why do I seem to remember an incident in which a US destroyer managed to kill a bunch of civilians while desperately trying to blow a tiny boat out of the water?

Given that there was a Press Release along with the footage I don't think avoiding the media was it's intention.

I think it looks like Thunderbird 2, or is it 3? I never liked the bloody Thunderbirds anyway.

Is that the big chain guns?

Yes it is. And the radar system is so advanced that they can pick off seagulls (well, when the sensitivity is set really high). This happened while one of my friends was working on a ship it was being installed on. He kept hearing the gun go off, so he comes out to look, and nothing happens for about 15 minutes. He thinks about heading back inside, next thing you know the gun starts moving and then opens fire and then just a red haze where the bird used to be (he just assumed they were seagulls).

try that on a moving sea, with the ship heeling, lurching, rolling, stomping in an attempt to bring other guns to bear on another target.
it has been attempted, and it ended with the shotdown of an airliner.

as great as the gatling guns are, what most US ships lack is the ability to fire at something at mid-distance, on the surface, and too fast and small to get a 5'' guns to bear quick enough. Once you are too close for the 5''ers, and you are very near the surface, you're free too do serious damage to the hull with RPGs.

Just FYI, but the USS Ronald Reagan replaced CIWS with the rolling airframe system. Instead of the chain guns, it launches fire and forget missiles at incoming targets.

Yup, impossible to detect, except by the awesome powers of RUPERT MURDOCH!
