Iran launches new superweapon!

Maybe because we're about to withdraw in defeat from Iraq...

You got Saddam though and the WMDs though right? ....right? See in this case you were already defeated when no WMDs showed up.

The problem is setting unrealistic or make believe objectives.

But Iran... picture this! You invade and the objective is to "blow the **** out of Iran"

Now, if you blow the **** out of Iran then take off to keep the good ole M.I complex rolling, it will be a definate win.

Yes, due to its advanced design it has a giant apendedge sticking out of its back.

To improve the aerodynamics, of course ;)
No, I think that is a water tank..
XD

Looks like a bad example of propoganda to me...something to give the people faith that their government will defeat the great satan...

;) That design has its uses though...
Perhaps it's a decoy that diverts attention from the real weapon...:)

I think that they who use that thingy would be ten times better off building a Dreadnought. You know, the one from Final Fantasy 2? That thing would be my preferred ride in a war...:D

A flying boat..... wouldn't that be an airplane? Explain please.

Where do they get their vehicle ideas from, the NationStates forums?

Notice how in the stories section all the
stories are trying to scare people of Iran.
Remember this is Fox news. From this I
can safely predict that the US WILL
invade Iran.

Yeah, well you'll all be laughing when the Iranians defeat an American invasion. They're no Iraq, these guys will fight to the ends of the Earth in defence of their homeland and you just won't win.

Pasi, that's a truth. If Bush make sanctions to Iran, I bet the oil prices are going skyrocket all the way to space. If he choses to fight, it will be worse. It's not Iraq, Teeran surely have something under it's belt to hit the americans by surprise. Besides, even if the war is easy, it's going to get worse than Iraq, after all, fanatics are the most dangerous enemies 'ever.

"capable of evading radar", ay? Uh huh... yeah. Sure it is. ;)
-I bet if this was 1940, that thing could sneak right across the English Channel. Absolutely it can "evade radar". (by staying out of the radar's range!)

Uh what is the excact tactical role played by Iran new flying boat ?
It looks like a descisively short ranging aircraft with very limited weapons compacity.

Unless the pilot is willing to make a one way trip to double the length of range that is.

Perhapes it is to deploy there new "underwater" torpedo.
Which would make some sense,

Americans won't invade. I don't think their government is that stupid.

While I'm skeptic of them posessing this incredible torpedo boat, evading radar isnt a new technology.Just google the American F-117 and B-2 Spirit bombers, they are invisible to radar. You cant however expect the Americans will be the only ones with such tech forever.

try that on a moving sea, with the ship heeling, lurching, rolling, stomping in an attempt to bring other guns to bear on another target.
it has been attempted, and it ended with the shotdown of an airliner.

The shooting down of an airliner (I assume you mean the Iranian one by USS Vincennes) was an issue of target identification and I haven't seen an account that puts any blame on maneuvering.

as great as the gatling guns are, what most US ships lack is the ability to fire at something at mid-distance, on the surface, and too fast and small to get a 5'' guns to bear quick enough. Once you are too close for the 5''ers, and you are very near the surface, you're free too do serious damage to the hull with RPGs.

I think you're underestimating the speed of aiming and firing 5"54cal guns. Also, CIWS has (at least in its variants of a few years ago) an optical targeting mode. And, virtually all US Navy ships now have a few .50cal mounts or the like mounted at various points on the ship. Aside from which, RPGs aren't going to do "serious damage to the hull" unless they're in substantial quantity. Wasn't there a recent report of RPG-armed pirates facing off against a destroyer in OT?

The Germans had it before anyone. YOU do a Google search - on the Horten Ho 229 (aka Gotha Go 229). ;)

Even US stealth planes are not invisible to some modern radars.

That said, US stealth planes have more to them than the shape of their airframe. Something that no other nation has to my knowledge. Not even China has managed to steal it yet, which is a remarkable feat of secret keeping if you ask me.

So I highly doubt this cheap Iranian repro is just as good or even comparable to US stealth.

Indeed. Looking at that picture, it looks like it the engine and propeller are the thing attached to the center-top of the fuselage. Um, hello? That alone very likely removes any claim of "stealth" from the aircraft.

It looks like something some crazy retired guy built in his garage over the winter out of spare parts from a junkyard.
