EDIT3: Now if only someone could post a map tutorial this awesome. (The one that appears at the Dawn of Man screen.) *Hint* *Hint*

EDIT4: If anyone feels like using these, just ask first. It's just polite!

EDIT5: My brother wanted me to make Hydra from Captain America. Looks pretty threatening.

Ankh-Morpork. Will start to create it once I'm finished with Wyveria.

One thing I'll mention, is to never use fullbright colours or full dark colours. Always stay about 20-30 from black or white. The reason is, is that a dark dark grey will pass for black, while at the same time it is able to show shading. The reciprocal goes for white.

ok, know this isn't the right place to ask... but as the Request thread is pretty much dicontinued, I need icons for Rise and Fall of Empires, I am 0 at Art (tried this tutorial... I could do a cross in red, and that was awesome, more than what I expected), and you guys do awesome icons and say you won't use them, anybody want to do an icon for:
Pueblo People Empire and
Armenia, based on Bagradit Lion (see spoiler)

Really?

The tutorial is right here. In the thread. That you're posting in. And you just said you did it once and that it was awesome. Apart from thinking that the few minutes of your life it'll take to make an icon are too precious to spend, not sure I see why you couldn't just, y'know, make them yourself.

I tried my hand at the Cherokee again. It looks better this time.

Really? The tutorial was really easy. You should try again, but in the meantime I want credit.

Pubelo. Icon from the Zia Pubelo. You can find it on the New Mexico flag as well.

Armenia. Icon from the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia's coat of arms. The coat of arms you provided looked ugly as a solid color. Blue color comes from Armenia's current flag.

I personally think he didn't try and it just wanting someone to do the hardwork. It took me about an hour to make my first one and I spit the Pubelo and Armenian ones out in about 15 minutes each.

EDIT3: The attachment is the PSD files. Edit them as you please.

It's not like I dind't want to try... And I explained myself worng. I tried once, and saying the result was "awesome" was me trying to be ironic... It'd probably work, but not onm a written message. My problem is the icon creation itself... How can I pick a part of a Coat of Arms and turn it into those solid color lines. I can understand gradients, et caetera but my experience in Photoshop is null. I even in "Traditional" Art I am lucky if I can make something that looks like something I wanted it to be... Seriously, I am one of those guys which the only thing that they can do is some very basic geometry... Nothing else looks like it should... I'm just hopeless at Art... I tried sometimes and got some not very bad results but screwed them up with painting...

About Credit, of course. Either as InsanelyApple or as another name. Btw, if you want to take a look at the Project just see my signature. I coul post my attemp, but it is really bad... It was based on the Bangrit Lion, but it didn't match Firaxis style and was pretty much horrible. Your icon, especially the Armenian one looks awesome :goodjob:... I wonder how you guys do this...

I'd prefer InsanelyApple. I don't want to tie my online presence to real life.

All I do is find a coat of arms or a flag. Use the quick select or magic wand to cut it out. And then use the color overlay from the tutorial to make it a solid color.

See?

EDIT: I'll look at what your doing another day. Today, I am sick and don't feel like messing around with that kind of stuff.

Armenia could easily be confused for Norway.

Is it possible to get a tutorial on how to create firaxis-like unit icons? Especially since a lot of the vanilla ones are photo shopped Google images.

The vanilla ones aren't merely 'photoshopped' google images - while they are based on other images (to the point of thievery), they are all made via vector art. So unfortunately there's no easy filter that'll make a Firaxis quality icon.

I'd ask someone like sukritact or janboruta. Be aware, it's hardly as easy as civ icons.

I seem to recall sukritact saying once it was possible to make a good looking icon with a couple filters and a starburst background, but you'd need to check with him about it (As Irkalla said). I think he might have a tutorial somewhere as well, I know he definitely has templates.

What's a starburst background and how do you implement one without paying an amount of money equivalent to the GDP of a decent-sized country?

Thank you for the tutorial. Here's my attempt at Empire of Brazil:
