Is anyone else disappointed that we can't play as Chairman Mao or Hitler?

Was really hoping to finally see a Civilization game with Hitler as leader of the Germans, I'd be going full autocratic fascist, and special unit it would have been lovely to see another Tiger tank like in Civ V.

My brother has always had a fascination with Chairman Mao and his massive failure "The Great Leap Forward". We were both pretty disappointed that our favorite historical rulers were once again left out of the game. I'm hoping someone will make a mod or something that will rectify this.

You won't see Hitler in an official capacity in a civ game. His warmonger penalty is just too high. You know Holocaust and all. But yeah, mods.

Nope.
And I am also not unhappy about the fact that Stalin didn't get included in newer parts of Civ and that I also won't be able to have Pol Pot as leader ;)

I wonder if Hitler's unique tile improvement would be the concentration camp. It exterminates population from nearby civs. Yeah Firaxis don't want that PR nightmare.

Hitler got his country to lose huge chunks of its historical lands in the east and ca. 10% of its population. Germany lost a tremendous amount of scientists and thus its position as the world leading nation in math, physics, chemistry etc. By the end of the war its cities, bridges, factories - everything was in ruins. And for years Germans have had to live with the image of monsters.
I don't mind the controversy, but by what standards can Hitler be considered a great leader? Stalin was also a monster, but he at least led his country to an against-the-odds victory and to its formation as a global empire. Hitler was a loser.

It would be against certain moral standard and laws of some countries to include Hitler as the leader of playable faction (a.k.a an avatar of player) into the official game.
Mao, on the other hand, is more of a controversial guy than just plain evil. Civ 1, 3 and 4 actually used Mao as the leader of China, but I think there is no chance to see Mao again in the future games, because of the simple fact that 2K wants to sell the game in China.
I saw many comments on this forum state "chinese are a very small fraction of the civ players and most of them use a pirated game anyways" but China is within the top 10 sales zone of Civ5 while japan or korea is not. No data is available for Civ 6, but with a simp chinese localization Civ 6 is destined to sell even better than Civ 5 in China.
And sadly, any game that cartoonize Mao would meet censorship in China, the Chinese version of Civ 3 and 4 was actually different from the version you played, with Mao deleted and a fictional leader “Tangdong” as replacement. So for the good of 2K's marketing strategy in asia, it is wise to avoid using Mao again, and Chinese players wont complain about getting a different game than everywhere else. Everyone is happy, and people who want to see Mao again can just wait patiently for mods.

hitler should get bonus of 50% reduction in district cost but 20% reduction in growth, also comes with -15 warmonger penalty and instant war from VIctoria and Catherine di Medici :D

Also missing are Pol Pot and Edi Amin. I can't say I am weeping that I can't recreate these pieces of well, .....anyway, I can't say I really miss them.

...

Against the law to include Hitler in a game? Are there countries that have this?
(in germany, at least, this isn't the case ... here it only is forbidden to display the Swastika symbol (as symbol of the NSDAP) and the double Sig-rune (symbol of the SS))

Mao is in both of my I phone versions and civ rev PS3/Xbox!

In all honesty when anyone thinks of a German leader they automatically think of Hitler. Right or wrong I can't see him not being in the game along with Mao, Napoleon, Stalin, Fidel Castro... Etc etc!

stalin had killed most of the high rank army officers just before the war
technologically and conceptually red army was one of the best in the world in 30s but because of the stalin's policies it became a flock of sheep germans drove to volga before it got a chanse to put up an organized resistance. and during the rest of the war leadership remained quite poor.

Hitler - start with autobahns to all civs, minus 50 percent to science and 90 per cent to physics research. panzer unique unit (dah)
Mao - farms generate culture. Plus 1000 per cent cost to building any culture building. When injured and without movement points, a unit may chose to use the 'long march' ability.
Pol Pot - Can only build farms-no other building. Farms gain -90 per cent efficiency. Khmer Rouge unique unit (every turn it loses 1 military power).

I don't mind the occasional flat out villain of a leader included in Civ. Not only have some effected history in a large way, but they also often fit the "Big Personalities" goal of Civ VI's leaders. I can understand why Hitler may be avoided, but I would be interested in seeing leaders like Nero, Herod the Great, Or Vlad the Impaler.

I would love to have Hitler in a Civ game...it would create so much fear and anxiety in me to have him as a neighbor lol! Good or bad, he was still a major influential player in history and worth mentioning just for his articulation and persuasion. A great, but evil man.
