Is Being Gay a Choice, Not a Choice, or both.

Maybe they find that with another person it's better or something. You'd have to ask them.

It's almost like they are choosing to have sex with other men because they find it enjoyable. Sounds pretty gay to me.

Please note that I am not condemning them. I am simply using them to make the case that being gay can be a choice.

Meh. The only thing I can say is tell me what you did after you spend 20 years or so in prison.

Who knows? Maybe I'd pick up a lover. :high5:

Well gay or not they use the pleasure to contain their urges and in the sense that being gay is preferring men over women when you have the choice than no I would say they aren't gay. If the guy who is "gay" with the other men in prison gets out and goes back to women he isn't gay. Really though it depends on your definiton of gay. Mine is more or less preference and true sexual attraction to the same sex not sex with another member of the same sex.

What happens in prison stays in prison?

So if a man spends a 20 year stint in prison during which time he picks up a lover with whom he shares physical and emotional intimacy but upon release chooses to engage in a heterosexual lifestyle then he is not and has never been gay?

*sigh*

Guys...
To be gay - to be primarily sexually attracted to another person of your own gender.
To have sex with your own gender in prison - does not mean you are gay, as it is a last option thingy. You can't direct the wind, but you can adjust your sails.
When developing emotional feelings for a person - yes, it is called love - you aren't necessarily sexually attracted to that person. Love and sex is two completely different terms (I.E. the difference between falling in love with a person and loving a person).

Kapeesh?

Sounds pretty gay to me.

But then at least these men in prison have chosen to be bisexual (love their wives at home and have sex with their prison boyfriends).

Slightly different interpretation but same result: there is an element of choice in one's sexuality.

Kapeesh?

Nope, still not getting it.

I can see how being locked in a box could be quite infuriating. I can also see how some men locked in such a box with no women in sight could enjoy having sex with other men.

I don't see how men choosing to have sex with other men for the sake of pleasure isn't gay.

Nope, because if I am being raped by a man I am engaging in man on man sex because I'm being forced, not for the sake of my enjoyment.

like I said above:

I want emphasize the for pleasure part because it makes the difference between people participating in gay acts due to force or for compensation (prostitution) versus participating in gay acts for pleasure, making them gay.

Gay is an orientation (your general preference, chosen or otherwise). Homosexual acts, however, do not make one gay, any more than pleasuring oneself makes one asexual.

Gay men might sleep with women (ie, in certain x-rated industries), but it wouldn't make them straight. Likewise, men might have to kiss for a film, but it doesn't make them gay.

As far as prison, from what I understand, is that sexual acts are as much about power as they are about any need or urge.

Again, lets stop pretending sexuality is so clear cut. It doesn't come down to just one thing or the other.

In prison, the hell they live is forcing them to escape it by any means necessary, and sex with cellmates is one of them. Like I said, they never wanted to do it, they had to.

They don't have to, they choose to.

I think it is pretty much agreed that engaging in sexual acts with members of the same sex does not automatically make you gay. A straight man can be forced (rape) or compensated (prostitution) for performing sex with other men and not necessarily be gay.

I argue that it is the enjoyment of such activities (regardless of situation) that determine whether a man is gay/bi or straight.

Power, need, urge... as long as its man on man sex for pleasure it's gay.

I doubt sex is the key motive for voluntary homosexual relationships in jail. I suspect it is much more an issue of loneliness vs. intimacy.

If they are lonely and want intimacy why not just cuddle?

Oh yeah - orgasms and the sexual pleasure they obtain from one another.

Technically most gay porn stars are .. Straight!

Ask them. They do it for the money. And their not gay.

In jail they do it for the sex, not for the guys, their not gay. (Some do it just to humiliate others).

Yep, just guys having sex with guys. Nothing gay here.

(Some do it just to humiliate others).

Jail sex is done in the privacy of the cell. Humiliation is carried out in the cafeteria and in yard where others can see (and guards won't let you have sex with each other).
