forgive me for not looking for the answer to this question in the lore, but I figured out that it would probably be a lot quicker to just ask in here.

so, is Erebus a flat world or is it round like Earth?

I tried giving X and Y world wraps to the Erebus mapscript yesterday ( thanx xienwolf for pointing that out :D ) and it turns out that not only it works perfectly, but it's actually much better looking and even gameplay-wise imho. no more "peak-chain-enclosing-the-borders-of-the-map-looking-terrible" , it's really awesome. so what I'd like to know now is if that goes totally against Erebus lore. so I'm kinda hoping that Erebus is a circumnavigable planet and not a flat plane, eheh :D

thanx in advance for the replys guys :goodjob:

edit: oh btw, in case somebody wants to try this out for themselves to see how it looks/play ( I highly recommend it actually) all you have to do is open up Erebus.py in the PublicMaps folder (open it with wordpad, it's just fine) . then search for "WrapX" (without the "" ) . and you'll see a WrapY right below that, and a warning not to change them. ignore the warning since we now know that it works just fine, and change both values to "True" instead of "False" . save, start a game and enjoy. and make sure you share your feedback about that in here. ;)

I'm quite sure that it's flat.

Erebus is flat, I believe. Not sure though. As for your wrapping, your giving both X and Y wraps to the mapscript in fact makes your Erebus toroidal (donut-shaped) and not spherical :P

Thanks for the hint, going to try that out, at least the X-Warp thingy.

Regarding the mapscript, I'm missing a lot of other options especially balanced ressources and the ability to choose amount of islands.
Is there a way to add these option or is an updated planned?

afaik, cephalo is working on an update that will add some more variables. btw, you can already edit it to your liking in that Erebus.py file, it shouldn't be hard, just read the notes at the start of the file and change values accordingly to your liking.

I think that Erebus is a flat, infinite plane of which the know area is a tiny portion of it, but I read this while ago, so I'm not certain of it now.

It's flat, this discussion was already made in lore. It isn't and infinate plain, either - however, IIRC the civs in the game are located only in one part of the whole lands of Erebus.

hey gekko, could you post that modified erebus.py file? i'm having problems changing it myself and i want to try it out.

I always figured it was a hyperbolic paraboloid, though that would, of course, appear flat to those on the surface.

It is flat per Kael, but I think it is flat in the sense that if you were to go to the edge you would actually be entering another domain. A domain that may be one of the gods vaults or something like that. Well that what I put together from the lore threads anyway. MC could explain it better though if Kael doesnt...

I whould rather suggest (as i did in another thread in the scenarioes subforum. So its not a totally new idea.) it to be changed to work only on non-wrapping maps and should be renamed: "___ discovered that erebus is flat" :D (and the wrap changed to no by default if easily possible so people get that concept fast. Changing should still be easy.)
after covering the x- or y- axis from one edge of the map to the other.

Still in effect giving +1 Ship movement. (Or even +1 Land movement? But that sounds very powerful so best stick to ships.) Justified in that the ships captains know that there is no sense in trying to sail around... :p

That whould make it more in line with the background of FFH 2.

And it whould make the flat-earthers really happy. :p :D (j/k of course ;))

Oh, and Erebus is flat as per Kael if that should not be obvious by now anyways. The thread is around here somewere (i suspect in the lore subforums.)

If the thing with poket planes whould be easy, Hell terrain feature might have been designed / implemented very differently (because that was the intent before Fire-phase started which was forfeit due to design reasons). So this one will likely have to wait for a modmod utilizing Dungeon Adventure Modmod by Lutefisk_Mafia which sounds like he will have that figured out sometime soon. :)

Don't know for sure if all the 'other' vaults are Flat as well... I belive that has not been covered yet (at least on a 'global' scale.)...

According to the canon Erebus is flat. Form a flavor perspective I especially like that the Erebus mapscript doesn't wrap because I always assume that any game Im playing is just a tiny section of land in Erebus, not the entire world. Thats why all the civs don't show up, etc.

But even with all that being said, fun trumps flavor everytime. If you have more fun on a map that wraps, Im all for it.
