Is there a hat out there for me?

Maybe anywhere where good fashion taste exists, you mean!

Is that photoshopped? It looks comical.

Hmm, make it a bit flatter...I'll put it under "Maybe".

I think a flat cap might fit the bill. Traditional enough that it can work as formal-ish wear, understated enough that it's not pretentious. Doesn't look like you're trying too hard, but doesn't look like you're not even trying.

Alright, another vote for that. You get exactly what I'm trying to go for.

Wearing any hat, apart from a baseball cap in an informal occasion, is always trying hard IMO.

A friend of mine rocks a flap cap every now and again. It is awful.

I'll repeat my initial opinion Mr S, just don't.

I started wearing hats 2 years ago. Tweed flat caps. I get complimented on them when dressed for work (formal business wear) and outside the office.

My initial response was to make a joke...but my serious answer would have been the flat cap. I even went looking for one to link to, but the first thing I found was $75US and I was too astonished to link it.

Too euphoric.

I dunno. I think of the "euphoric" look as being a fedora along with a graphic tee, flannel, and jeans, as though that somehow compensates for general slobbery. And I'm wearing a graphic tee, flannel, and jeans right now, but I own up to when I'm dressed like a slob. Alongside a complimenting suit, it really doesn't look nearly as ridiculous. It's not something I'd recommend for everyone, but some people absolutely can pull it off.

Strangely, the only man I've known personally to regularly wear a fedora with casual clothes was Greek Orthodox and generally pleasant. So good on him for defying stereotypes, questionable fashion choices aside.

Just to wear when it's raining or snowing, to pair with a non-casual (read: no hood) jacket.
The obvious answer over here would be a 'knit cap'(?). Although it's less formal and perhaps seen as a more youthful wear in some places. I'd go with a good looking soft cap, a flat cap couldn't be pulled off here unless you're over 70, but it might be a cultural thing.

I'm with Bshup on this topic.

I would tap that. I want to tap that soooo much.

You probably can't pull off a hat. It's hard to do.

This is a joke, right?

Hats have a dreadful tendency to blow off in even a light breeze unless nailed down, never mind being "hard to pull off".

The definition of pretentious.

Absolutely not. You can see from the stains on his trousers that Isambard was a hands-on engineer.

(Looking at that sentence now in the cold light of day, it seems to be carrying a small burden of innuendo about it, somehow.)

Made me think of that guard in Midnight Express :S

Hey, the mirror test may still vindicate you guys.

Bowler Hat
Not sure I want to go for the Oddjob look.

One in a subdued color and tighter fit might work.

Unless you're in Turkey - still illegal there IIRC!
Wait, seriously?

All the stains are on my lab coat. I don't wear that outdoors.
