Is there any point to the Volcano event?

In vanilla BTS, the volcano event would destroy several improvements around it, but the peak would remain a peak. in FFH2, improvements are not destroyed, but the peak is transformed into a rather out-of-place volcano, which just looks weird. Does it do anything else? As far as I can tell, the volcano event only serves one purpose: To look ugly.

I seem to remember it erupting once and destroying one of my cities....

But I could be wrong.

I am absolutely certain no volcano has ever done damage to any of my cities or improvements or those in any territories I was able to observe. I think that's just in vanilla BTS. I wonder why it can't work the same way in FfH.

Whenever I get that event I have to go into worldbuilder to change it back to a peak because I can't bare to look at the ugly volcano

In FfH2 Volcanos are also removed when the tile changes to hell terrain (even if no other apparent change takes place, such as with Tundra or Ice base terrain) - which really annoys me. Also the Volcano is treated as flat ground for the purposes of sight range, which is most often significant for hawks.

I would really like to see the Volcano replaced with a terrain based on the Peak, which would retain the height of a Peak. It would be best if it looked like it fit in with the rest of the terrain (similar appearance, rather than the current eyesore mode), and adding the destruction of surrounding tile improvements would also be a plus (so that it actually does something as an event). It would be nice if destroyed improvements were replaced with an Ash improvement, which lowered tile yields and increased the time needed to place another improvement in the tile (similar to removing a Jungle, for example). In theory the new Volcano event should be fairly rare, with each Volcano on the map having a small chance each turn to re-erupt (independant of the regular random event system).

Then I'd like to see a hell-terrain version of the Volcano, also based on the Peak terrain, but appropriately hellish. A hell version of the Peak itself would be nice as well, since the current Peak is rather bland for hell terrain. Peaks being converted to hell Peaks should have a chance of immediately erupting into a hell Volcano. I'd like to see the hell version of the Volcano have an increased chance of eruption with a chance each time of converting the surrounding flat tiles to Volcanic Basin terrain (which would need to be added). Volcanic Basin should have no tile yields and no valid improvements, including roads. All this would combine to make hell terrain a more oppressive and foreboding place.

If FfH, nothing. In the FF modmodmod RLD, it creates a road, an Ash improvement, and an Obsidian resource on the tile, which is a luxury and also grants a 'Tools' promotion to workers, making them work faster... Like weapons for normal units.

This will be in FFPlus 022 also. ;)

So, when's FFPlus 022 coming out? No, no. Just kidding. I'm looking forward to it!

For now, though... I'll just dance my days away.

Well, you could have the terrain that is hit with Ash convert to a Fertile version (such as Fertile Plains or Fertile Grassland, and so on, new terrain but with an identical appearance), with +1 :food: output, or perhaps +1 :food: only when improved with a Farm, but then have the Ash improvement still reduce the tile to no yields. Once the Ash was cleaned up the new fertile terrain would remain.

Wait, what? A volcanic eruption near your town builds you roads and luxuries? Here I thought they tended to be bad things....

Actually ash would make tiles more crop-yielding, but it could decrease production because you have to dig through a layer or two before you hit the ground.
In fact, you grow things on the ash, no need to clear it. Just as layers of mud from the flood are good for plants.

In civ, it can be done in python. For a long time I planned (but there is too much to do all the time) to make volcano eruption destroy improvements. Not city, that would be too hard.
It would also add +1 food to some (or just one) of the surrounding tiles.
But it would be great to make volcano a terrain to make it look nicer ;)

One should be able to sacrifice captured workers to appease the Volcano God and gain +2:gold: or something.

I'm not into that sort of thing but the Sheaim might like it.

Just on that one tile. Ash is from the volcano, Obsidian is volcanic glass.. The only awkward thing is the road, and that's necessary as volcanoes are impassable. Need it or you couldn't connect the obsidian. ;)
