Is there really racism in America?

I tend to not like these conversations because they always end up blaming the 'white male'. It's not my fault, and I'm the opposite of racist, so why should I be blamed?

Because you are convenient scapegoat!

Button up and accept the blame like a man.

It is human nature to be racist. Anytime we see something different, something we are not used to it speaks to our most basic instincts. Everywhere I have lived there has been little racism. The older generation is different of course, they seem more racist then my generation. But I have never witnessed anyone being picked on or otherwise mistreated because of their race. I have however heard rude comments about blacks and hispanicsand arabs.

I believe the most prevelant form of racism in America today is aimed towards hispanics (at least where I live) Hispanics grow in numbers everyday and alot of people seem threatened by this. I personally think it is great. Utah and Idaho don't have many minorities and now this area is becoming much more diverse thanks to Mexican immigration. I think the more immigration the better, the best thing you can do for a nation's gene pool is to get some diversity in there.

One thing I do not like in America is the goverenments racism. I am speaking of racial profiling and affirmative action. There was something that happened at school that reminded me how counter-productive these things can be. I was registering for school and my friend James was out of town so he had me register for him. I picked up my schedule and his and compared them to see if we had any classes together. Then something caught my eye. There was a section at the top labeled race mine said C and his said A. It threw me off for a sec, why was James's different then mine? Oh Yeah! Im white, James is Asian. It was something that I never really thought about yet but our school sees the need to point it out to me.

I do believe that America is probably less racist then the rest of the world though, we have been working out the racism issue for a long time now. Except maybe the south I have heard horror stories about the south.

Oh, you should see the situation in Denmark then

Right and Left, the media, and not forgetting the rest of Europe have made mincemeat of the Danish Immigration debate. Now it is taboo to talk about that sort of stuff.

Our nation is now blessed with segregation due to the disastrous integration-attempt and more votes for the far right parties. There is something rotten in the state of Denmark :hmm:

We have friendly organizations with pamphlets saying: “Kill Jews where and when you find them”, and trying to organize rewards for killing prominent Jews… and then we have the Nazies… :ack:

Having said that, there is no real racist-motivated violence here.

Does the sun shine? Is the earth round? Is there racism in the US? I say Yes :)

Every Portugese that I know, mostly on my mom's side of the family (and the rare classmate) were more darkly complected, almost a Spanish type, which I don't consider Caucasian (because of the darker skin tone.) So maybe they're 'white', but I"ve never thought of it that way.

Ive noticed that Americans have very vague and fuzzy notions about what races are and seem to be confused by Latin America in particular. Here in the USA you show the average American a full Aztec blooded Mexican and ask them what he is and they'll almost invariably say "He's Spanish". Then show them a typical Spaniard and they'll say he's "a white guy". However, if you ask the Spaniard to speak a few sentences in Spanish they'll say "Oh, I thought he was white!". Now show them two black guys, one from Alabama and one from the Dominican Republic. The response will be "Well obviously theyre both black." Then ask the Dominican to speak Spanish and they will say "Ohhh, that one is Spanish, I thought he was black!". Race is based on genetics and has absolutely nothing to do with language. All persons of pure native European stock are white. Sure Danes are alot lighter than the Portugese, but both are Caucasians, just like a light skinned black from one part of Africa and a dark skinned black from another are both Negroes.

Are you joking? I don't see anything 'friendly' about them. That's one of the owrst things I've ever heard.

*Note to self, don't go to Denmark, Nazis will kill me.

@Polymath, the Jews were a 'good scapegoat' for Germany's problems before the Holocaust. I consider both to be equally bad.

well, its obvious there is racisms in the US.
I dont mean that its a racist country but many people is.

not only with inmigrants, I know americans whose last name is rodriguez and thats enought to be the target of racist people.

Racism is everywhere, even in a mixed country as my own. Of course, to some extent, there is racism in the USA.

I can't believe that violent racism is really a thing of the past in the US. We still have a lot of it here in Europe. In Germany we even have towns which are total "no go areas" for colored people. These places are called "National befreite Zonen" (National Liberated Zones) by the Nazis. They are completely "cleaned" of non-Aryans and full of Nazis.

yack!
btw, USA have that grou the clan that hates everyone  (Thought it's not realy funny  )

There is in germany still that much of natzism?

BTW Benderino
*Note to yourself, dont' go anywhere, it's risky... you might died*

And is rio de janeiro is part of argentina or brazil? cause we have\had a tv show in israel about how argentina gave to natzis freedom and safty in her boundries...

Yikes, that's scary too. The KKK's presence here in the States doesn't sound anywhere near as large as this. I've never even seen anyone from the KKK, just saw them in films and such.

"I hate Illinois Nazis!"

;)

Well it is good to know that the USA is more progressive then Europe in at least some respects hehe.

It’s not Nazis… well, similar in some aspects… ‘PLO’ windbags and Islamic radicals.

But don’t you worry, most of it is just loud talk. And as I stated earlier, racist-motivated crime is rare, killing even rarer. Actually I don’t recall a racist-motivated murder in Denmark since WW2 :ack:

As for the nazi-dogs. I don’t know much about their activities in Denmark. The DNSB (Danish National-Socialist Movement) have further degenerated (is that even possible?) to a few grumpy old men and young hooligans.

Don’t worry; they’re not as friendly as they sound. Some hide behind a facade of human aid, while giving the grant money to terrorists. :ack:

(Oh, and also beware of any sarcasm found in any of Cimbris posts.) ;)
