It's announced! You know you want it!

Dwarf Fortress.

That is all...

Haven't checked in on that one in a while. Can't cope with the ASCII, though I swear I saw a video where the ASCII had been replaced with tiles. Wonder if that's progressed any further? Also, the Sim mode is well established, but I heard the Rogue-like was a little rudimentary. Has this been improved yet?

Last I heard they were trying to add a wounds system that kept track of wounds right down to broken fingers and bruised knees. Whilst that is impressive, when you've got a couple of hundred dwarves to look after, that's an almost anal level of detail that might detract from gameplay, rather than add to it.

you should definitely give ROM - Revised Oblivion Mod a try

Dragon Age may have killed my desire to play an "immersive" CRPG for awhile. (This time problems with gameplay/balance rather than setting. I started on Hard. Started over on Nightmare. Installed one, then another mod to increase the difficulty. Still not enough, and all the item mods seem to be OP stuff. Even the ones that say the fix OP items. I'm about halfway through, but I'm done. Didn't have this problem with KotOR I or II.)

So Oblivion is looking more attractive. Everything's relative. If I do haul it out I'll give ROM (I mostly used FCOM stuff before) a try and think of the whole thing as an elaborate FPS rather than "Whaa, it's not Morrowind!" :)

Changing the subject a bit, but what do you guys think of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and F.E.A.R.?

I don't know... maybe it's the use of acronyms, but I think those are the best FPS games of recent memory. Stalker I modded up a bunch - more toward what the devs. originally claimed the game would be - and I loved crawling around the Zone. Good gameplay and a great environment/history to explore. (Sort of Fallout 3 but a lot more of everything good, except for graphics.) IIRC I modded F.E.A.R. not at all and just enjoyed the solid FPS gameplay and an intriguing horror flick. (I *loved* the bit with the plank at the beginning.)

Still more or less ascii, meaning I can't play it. :P

Been playing minecraft quite a bit...

Using the Phoebus tileset for DF, no more Ascii, looks great. And due to the most recent version having support for TTF fonts, no longer are all the status screens and menus filled with random tiles that replaced the Ascii.

Tarq, if you do reinstall Oblivion don't forget to install the unique landscapes compilation... gets rid of boring vanilla landscapes and makes exploration a joy :D
