Introduction
DO NOT POST UNTIL I SAY SO!

Introduction

I've been wanting to start a new NES for a long time, and I've finally decided I'm ready to try it. Rather than doing something overly complicated, I'm going to do a simple 2000 BC world map fresh start. I'm going to try to keep things fast-paced and not too serious, as the title suggests. At least through the summer, I'll try to update every 3-4 days.

I am writing my own rules, so READ THE RULES! They shouldn't be too radical, but you might get some hints from them...

Example Nation
Exampletopia/jalapeno_dude
Happyland!
Color: Chartreuse
Economy: 2/4/1(+1 from Happyland Cultural Center)
Size: Small(1)
Age: Early Gunpowder Age
Army: 6,300 Riflemen, 1,000 Utopians(UU)
Navy: 23 Ironclads
Infrastructure: Dirt Roads(1/3)
Education: SUPER GENIUS!(4/6)
Culture: Cultured
Confidence: Ehhhhhh.......
Projects: Spamingrad Memorial (3/5)
Description: At the end of the great battle of Spamingrad, the Fresh Start forces were forced to retreat. A few of them hid deep in the mountains, and pledged to form a utopia that would act as an example to all...

Name
Country name: self-explanatory. I reserve the right to abbreviate, make acronyms, or add vowels if necessary.
Your name: CFC nickname. Duh.
Capital: self-explanatory

Color
Pick a color, any color... it may change slightly depending on other countries.

Economy

Sort of like fCNES, maybe. In the form Rural/Urban/Trade. To a rough approximation, the first is your agriculture and mining, while the second is your production of finished goods. You can generally invest 2 points into one of these to raise it by 1, if you give a good excuse. The third represents how much trade you're doing with other nations. Increase it by doing more trade/cornering the market in something. Duh.

I'll also use the 3 city system. Economic, Cultural, and Relgious. Each gives 1 spending point a turn, and the latter two will give random Education, Culture, and Confidence increases.

By the way, founding a city costs 1 spending point. Name it, please.

Size
The cost of infrastructure and education increases are multiplied by the number in parentheses. So are your army increases. So it's a trade-off.

Levels: Tiny(1),Small(1), Getting There(2), Respectable(2), Healthy(3), Medium(3), Large(4), Bloated(4), Obese(5), Gargantuan(5), Sumo Wrestler(6)

Age
The level of technology you're at. Your army and navy are automatically upgraded to the next level when you reach it. You're more likely to get it if others near you have it. We'll start in the Bronze Age.

--Bronze Age--
Iron Age
Early Classical Age
Middle Classical Age...

Army and Navy
See post #2.

Infrastructure
Roads, food storage, etc. Necessary if you plan to expand much (hint hint)...
You must spend the number in parentheses of spending points, multiplied by your size number, to get to the next level.

Levels: None(1), Dirt Tracks(2), Dirt Roads(3), Stone Roads(4), Paved Roads(5), Efficient(6), Highways(7), Civ3 Railroads(8)

Education
How smart your people, generals, engineers, etc. are. A high one will help you get to the next level, but won't guarantee it. Expect a drop when you gain an age. Same increase thing as infrastructure.

Levels: None(1), Huh?(2), Illiterate(2), Bad(3), Okay(3), Literate(4), Educated(4), Scholarly(5), Genius(5), SUPER GENIUS(6), SUPER GENIUS+x(6+x)

Research

Now that we've reached the iron age, there isn't really a massive paradigm shift in warfare again until the advent of gunpowder (though some would argue the introduction of horsemen, which is beginning, was just as important). Thus, I am implementing a research system, in which smaller advancements (i.e. the stirrup, the crossbow, better fortifications, etc.) can be researched. Advancements need government support to be used, but they are more likely in larger and more educated societies. Thus, the maximum amount of research depends on size and education. You give me the advancement, I'll give you a cost and a number of turns. You can have multiple research projects at once, but the turn counter will not advance unless money is invested that turn (or you've paid the full price). Like projects, you may make research secret. You cannot do research until you enter the iron age.

If you purchase research from another country, it costs an amount of EP equal to your size to implement it (you can pay this over multiple turns, but it won't take effect until you finish). This reflects the cost in transitioning to a new technology, as well as providing an advantage to those who research it first. I will keep track of who researched a technology versus just implementing it. You cannot sell a technology to others until you have implemented it.

Maximum number of points per turn that can be invested in research=Education*Size/2, rounded down.

Examples:

A Small nation with no education (1*1/2) cannot do research.

A Respectable nation with Bad education (2*3/2) can invest 3 points per turn.

Culture
How cultured, sure of themselves, patriotic, superior-feeling, etc. your people are. NOT how they feel about you. This is important, but can't be increased by spending points.

None, Tower of Babel, Disunited, Cohering, Coherent, Strong, Magnificent, Devoted, Patriotic, Jingoistic, Superior, All-Powerful, Invincible

Confidence
How much your people like you. You want this high. Stories will help, spending points won't.

None, Revolting, Muttering Angrily, Ehhhhh....., Okay, Good, Great, Super, Awesome, Adoring, Blindly Following, Worshipping, Zombie-Like

Projects
They cost eco points. I'll give you the amount.

Description
Give me one, including location and a little backstory. It may be updated as time goes on.

Orders
PMed only. Creativity is good. Mind-numbing length isn't, so 2 PM limit. If my box is full, email me at jalapenodudeATgmail.com.

Updates
Will be every 3 days to start. Deadline will be 6 PM US East Coast time.

Complaining
Be gentle, please. If it's more then simple stat problems, PM me. No flaming.

Military

KILL! Fun fun fun... Each spending point will get you the listed amount of troops multiplied by your size number (note that galleys are not multiplied by the size number). UUs replace one of these listed things--1 max per nation. Troops in a higher age will be stronger than the same troops in a lower age.

Nations that can have horses: everyone west of india, east of spain, and south of france.

Nations that can have elephants: everyone in india in the iron age

-Samurai, duh. Extremely skilled swordsmen who serve their masters with unswerving loyalty.

-Large ships armed with rams and catapults.

-Small, maneuverable galleys armed with crack archers.

Sparta: Spartan Hoplite (500 per eco)
-Do you really need a description?

Iberia: Legions of the Holy Cross (500 per eco)
-Well-organized elite heavy infantry.

Upkeep

Bronze Age: For every 2000 troops above 10000 your nation has, rounded up, you must pay 1 spending point in upkeep.

Iron Age: For every 4000 troops above 20000 your nation has, rounded up, you must pay 1 spending point in upkeep.

Update Index
Update 0: The Beginning
-Prussia, Byzantium, Egyptia, Carthage, and Rome arise. Some NPCs too. Joy!

Update 1: Baby Steps
-The Medes and Hedjaz rise, along with 5 NPCs. The Etruscans fall. Egypt is united. The Germans get beat up. The Berbers don't. Byzantium does some trading.

Update 2: War and... Peace? Yeah, Right.
-Athens vs. Sparta expands into the Aegean War. The Fertile Crescent goes insane. Egypt has fun with pirates. Carthage lights themselves on fire.

Update 3: Ripples
-Brittannia and Atyrian arise, and 2 more NPCs. Egypt is invaded by the Hyksos. The Medes conquer Babylon and Elam. Those last two things aren't entirely unrelated...

Update 4: BOOM!!!
-Thera errupts, ending Minoan civilization and destroying crops worldwide. The Babylonians disappear to the west. Azale doesn't get his orders in. Egypt drives back the Hyksos. Carthage finally has some success against the Berbers. The Prussians go on a great raid, and Britannia is raided. Coincidence? You decide...

Update 5: Not with a Bang, but a Whimper
-The Hyksos continue to be driven back. The Berbers are forced to flee. Azale quits. Atyria causes the Medes to be invaded. Athens is nearly destroyed. Rome invents biological warfare.

Update 6: Conquest and Aftermath
-Eire conquers Ireland. Rome becomes an oligarchy. The League of the Sea Peoples arises, and convinces Cyprus to join. The Hittites ready for a clash with the League, Troy, and the Medes. The Medes get a puppet state.

Update 7: Where Has All the Bronze Gone?
-Eire becomes Eirehann and conquers the League of the True Irish, then attempts to destroy the Galloglach, only to have them flee to the exact same place as the League. Britannia backstabs Wessex and conquers them, destroying the Tin Route. Prussia meets a new civilization. Egypt and the League of Sea Peoples skirmish indeterminately. Troy is nearly overrun by the Hittites, who hold out against the Medes but are invaded by the Sea Peoples.

Update 8: The Spoils of War
-The Galloglach invade Northern Ireland. Rome gets NPCed. The Byzantines liberate Athens. Egypt and the Sea Peoples continue to skirmish. The Hittites collapse, their empire split between the Sea Peoples and Medea. The Medes try to invade Ur, but generally fail.

Update 9: I Need to Go to Sleep, so Come Up with Your Own Title
-The Galloglach are finally crushed. Britannia takes all of their island. Maar and Iberia rise in Spain, Yamato in Japan, and Srivijaya in Indonesia. Rome becomes a Republic. Atyria completes their great library, and goes on an expedition to Noricum to find bronze. Egypt and the Sea Peoples continue fighting indecisively, as do Ur and the Medes.

Update 10: For Want of a Boat
-Britannia gets raided again. Rome enters the Iron Age. Byzantium gets pushed back to Athens. Egypt and the Sea Peoples make peace. The Medes buy the tin from Atyria and raise a great army, but forget to build boats and are slaughtered, while the Urrians take all of Medea west of the Euphrates and most of it west of the Tigris. Yamato manages to survive by using Samurai.

Update 11: Bronze and Iron
-Maar and Normandy are caught raiding Britannia. Carthage founds a colony. Rome sells iron to Sparta and the Sea Peoples. Sparta retakes Athens from Byzantium. Yamato survives thanks to some assassinations. New Memphis becomes a cultural center. The Medes sack Ur and retake the west, but are driven out of Ur proper.

Update 12: The Great War(s)
-The Maarians split up and become nomadic. Rome purchases Southern Italy and sells lots of iron. Tartessos and Syracuse go to war. Sparta fails to invade Byzantium. Yamato, Kibi, and Kenu partition Toyama. Both the Medes and Ur get iron, and after a risky but successful Urrian invasion, Ur has everything east of the Tigris, while the Medes have everything west of it.

Update 13: Aftershocks
-Britannia (which becomes the High Kingdom of Briton) and Eirehann switch their colonies around, and make contact with Iberia and Tartessos. With help from the Romans, Syracuse retakes its colony. Rome invades Carthage, claiming they were planning to ally with Tartessos. Yamato invades Kibi along with Izumo. Dilmun and Ur are consolidated into the Sumerian empire, which then invades Magan.

Update 14: Amphibious Landings
Eire and Britannia invade Tartessos, but are defeated, with Roman aid, in the Strait of Gibraltar. Rome and Carthage make peace, as well as Rome, Tartessos, and Syracuse. The Sea Peoples put down the Hittite rebellion, prompting a Sumerian invasion which is stopped at the Euphrates. All of Magan is conquered by Sumer, but the Maganese seize Sumer's capital in a naval assault.

Update 15: World War, Part I
Atyria establishes the Scythian Confederation as a puppet state. Eirehann continues to besiege Tartessos, while Briton invades the Iberian Confederation and conquers half the state. Sweeden arises, and destroys Prussia's capital in a surprise attack, bringing Prussia close to fragmentation. Carthage invades Syracuse, starting the Second Punic War. The war between Sumer and the League stagnates. Sparta declares war on the League for supporting Byzantium and manages to take Cyprus. In a surprise attack, Egypt also declares war on the Sea Peoples and manages to sack Tyre itself, making the League's defeat seem imminent...

Update 16: The Center Cannot Hold
Prussia's core centralizes, but the frontiers rebel. With help from Atyria and Noricum, the Sweedes are driven inland. Atyrian breakaways form the nation of Pest. Briton and Eirehann make peace with Tartessos and Iberia, and the former two go on a colonization spree to celebrate. Rome signs a ceasefire with Carthage, but soon after re-declares war and captures Carthage's colonies. Sparta's fleet defeats the League's fleet, but is defeated by Byzantium's fleet, which captures the northern half of the country. Sumer advances, capturing the fortress city of Tarsus. Egypt, too, advances, and the Sea Peoples are confined to Anatolia. The nation of Hainan forms, and iron is discovered in China.

Update 17: Wheels within Wheels
Srivijaya gets invaded by barbarians. In or near India, the Aryans, the Turks, and Kathmandu, plus some NPCs, rise to power. Atyria invades Byzantium, which is reduced to an army and a fleet in Athens. Sumer allies with the Sea Peoples and turns on Egypt, pushing them back into Africa. Iberia buys all of the interior of Spain from Eirehann, who also sells all of the coast to Britannia. Iberia expands north, violating the treaty of Caer Troia. Eirehann turns inward. So does Tartessos, but they do it more violently, and also cut off trade through Gibraltar. Syracuse collapses into the Trade Union, Malta, and a tyranny on Sicily itself--which turns xenophobic and invades Rome. Rome, meanwhile, succeeds in taking Secronia, but not Carthage, due to fortifications. Sweeden disappears as a civilization. Prussia conquers Denmark, but Hamburg is sacked by the Franks.

Update 18: A Tangled Web
Egypt gives up the delta area to Sumer and fortifies the Upper Nile, beating off attacks from the Hedjaz and the Nubians in the process. In Sumer, the Medes rebel. The Sea Peoples conquer the Spartan Aegean possessions, but Atyria aids the Spartans in destroying Byzantium. Atyria also sets up its second puppet state, the Itherion Confederation. Tension begins to build between Buddhist Funan and Hindu Srivijaya. Prussia drives back the Franks, but is invaded from the east. Pest is destroyed. Rome reorganizes its military and destroys the Carthaginians, with assistance from the Berbers, but is unable to drive Syracuse out of its lands. Briton collapses into chaos, emerging fragmented and without its colonies. The Mauryans rise to power in Maghada, which conquers Kosala.
