JB2 - Neo-Fascists (C3C Deity)

Sorry guys,

RL tripped me up this afternoon/evening but I'll get to this first thing in the morning.

Ted

It appears the Greeks and Aztecs have an ROP rather than an MPP. Additionally, the Aztecs are fighting the Mayans and Americans, so it is a decent time to take the town.

The Aztecs could MA with the Greeks though so we should be careful with our other cities near the Greeks. MA'ing with the Greeks vs the Aztecs would probably spell the doom of the Aztecs which I don't think we want as it would help the Mayans grow.

JB2-850AD

Pre-flight checks...
Whoops! Caesarea is about to riot - hire clown
Varna switches from Granary to Temple (already pop 8)

We could buy Physics & MA vs Aztecs from Maya for Ivory, WM + 617gp

Build Embassy to Aztecs for 134gp

Investigate Teayo (Aztec) for 63gp
Barracks, 2 Rifles & 3 ships

Looking at the situation I don't feel happy about going to war until we have a sizeable force of MDI supported by enough Trebuchet/Cannon to make a decisive strike.

We only have 1 Trebuchet presently and the bombard strength of 6 isn't going to be very successful against the Rifle's effective defense of 8.

As we only have ~30% chance of an MDI defeating a fortified Rifle (reg) then an initial assault force of 9 or more MDI seems called for.

Another problem is going to be the draft rate. Under Fascism it's possible to draft 2 Citizens per turn which, unless we manage to declare & take Teayo in the same turn (impossible with MDI/Trebuchet), means that the Aztecs will have at least 1 drafting round probably resulting in 2 reg Rifles & 2 Conscripts.

However MDI vs Rifles is the best shot we're going to get until Replaceable Parts comes along and that's too far down the road.We need to grab that last Ivory ASAP as it's our ticket to the future.

IBT

Varna MDI - Knight
Trebizond Market - Trebuchet

10 - 950AD
Trebuchets North
Workers work

Notes
I've left a couple of Horses in Varna for possible upgrades.

Saltpetre is what we need most but nobody has any for sale. If we can get our hands on some then we could upgrade our Trebuchets and perhaps buy Mil Trad to build some Cav.

America seems to be fading fast now. Perhaps an opportunity to buy tech for gpt hoping they're exterminated?

There is a small stack ready to attack Teayo with more MDI, Pikes & Trebuchets en-route. However we don't have Barracks in those border towns.

The save is > here <

You're right Space but it might be worth losing rep if we can get a catch up :)

Ted

Ted,
The riots have to do with the end of the GA. I don't know if it is a new bug, but it has happened to me before.

If you load up the initial save, you can notice that the values don't add up. Each citizen is making non-GA values, but the totals are based on the GA (so size 11 town has 14 shields if you count the 11 squares, but 25 in the box). In any case the LUX and the happiness of citizens is based on the GA values, even though it appears there should be no. When it recalculates the happiness it falls short because you really have -1 gold per square. Thus the cities riot.

I have started artificially raising the Lux right before the GA ends because of this. You have to compensate for the missing gold.

I don't remember having this problem pre-conquests, so either I was just adjusting the cities without thinking about it, or it is a new conquests bug.

I do think I remember the "not adding up" problem in PTW??? It is confusing.

Anyway, that is my observation of what the problem is. If anyone has more info on this and whether it is really a known bug, I would be interested.

Interesting... I'll have another look at the saves this evening. It did occur to me that a lux might have been cut off due to the strife on the other continent but I forgot to check it before I posted.

Ted

Right on! Glad to see this one moving again.

I'd been keeping an eye open for open saltpeter on my turn, but no dice. Whoever's got it isn't selling it to us. Maybe they'll get into a nice, messy MPP-fueled industrial war soon as give us a chance to grab some then.

At least we'll recover a lot of income when we send our mace-wielding maniacs into the riflemen.

You were just beaten to it by another SG. I see it, but will not complete it until tommorrow. Sorry :sad:

I'm late because a friend of mine has broken his computer, and like the nice guy I am I'm rebuilding it for him. These things happen sometimes, and it surprises me that I can prioritise anything above my next SG turn. Maybe it's even healthy :)
I was hoping to finish and post tonight, but given that it's past midnight and I have three and a half turns to play and the turnlog and pictures .. I just can't face it. Sorry.

Sorry team, I will have to ask to be dropped from this succession game (and from all of them)... due to a virtual ban on computer games which has been placed on me. I'm really sorry that this has happened- I wouldn't have signed up for any succession games if I knew that I would have to do this. I hope to be back on these forums eventually...

I'm sorry for not being able to complete my turns. In truth I cannot guarantee that I will be able to participate properly in this or any of my other SG's for the next month or so as I have a situation at work to resolve which will limit my free time. I have already notified most of my other SG's of this. I think the fairest thing I can do is to drop out.

Good luck for the rest of the game guys.

Sorry to see you go Madbax. Hopefully, I will see you again when things get better at work.

Preturn: I need to reaquaint myself with the game. It has been a while. I upgrade the the horsemen left for me to upgrade. I go through the towns and make a few changes and trade around squares to build some of the knights a tad faster. This is more to re-familiarize myself with the game, than any real need to do so.

IBT: Lone Mayan Cav lands next to the Aztec city.

960 AD: 3 rifles in the Aztec town. Move troops. Nearly ready to attack (I am upgrading some Garrisons on the Greek lines)

IBT: Mayan Cav does not kill a rifle, but is red-lined.
Constantanople: Cathedral->Pike
Varna: Pike->Pike
Ancyra: Trebuchet->Library
Brusa: Trebuchet->Aquaduct

970 AD: Well I think I have enough for taking out a single Aztec city. I make sure we have no deals with the Aztecs, and no lux deals with America who might get cut off. I check the discount we would get with declaring war by allying with the Mayans, but it is less than a 100 gold, so definitely no alliance

Declare war. Move units next to the city and bombard the city (damaging a boat) with the Dromon.

IBT: Greeks offer to trade maps... ok
Adrianople: Knight->Knight
Smyrna: Temple->Trebuchet
Dyrrachium: Courthouse->Caravel

980 AD: Dromon and Trebuchets bombard the town. Rifles have 2 or 3 hp.
MDI vs 3 hp rifle wins!
MDI vs 3 hp rifle lowers the hp to 1.
MDI vs 2 hp rifle wins!
MDI vs 1 hp rifle loses 1hp rifle now has 2 hp.
MDI vs 2 hp rifle wins and we take the city.
with MDI to spare (since we were on the lucky side)

I will keep the city. The distance factor should mitigate the huge culture difference. The main reason is that the Greek city would claim the land. I would rather limit greek shields.

Move some of the new units to the S - 2 more turns for Greek deals to run out.

Decide to go for Tech. 60 gpt + 325 gold for Physics to America. 130 gpt + 665 gold for TOG and Magnetism to America. I actually expect America to live, I just don't want to give money to the Mayans and Aztec and Greece are out.

Unfortunately, we get medicine for our free tech :( We had a 1 in 3 chance of getting Nationalism which America doesn't have so we would have gotten a bonus tech via trade if we had gotten it. Medicine is my least favorite. I do start Min Sci on Sanitation which noone has yet.

IBT: No movement
Caesarea: Knight->Knight
Varna: Pike->Pike
Naissus: Barracks->Pike

990 AD: Working on lining up units for Greek attack. MM several cities to 14 shields.

IBT: No movement
Constantanople: Pike->Knight.
Nicaea: Barracks->Pike

1000 AD: Some MM.

IBT: Greece lux deal expires - I was hoping to keep this until we were ready for war, but no luck (or we have 20 turn renegotiate set - I forgot to check that). Caesarea riots, but the other cities are fixed.
Varna:Pike-Pike
Septum: Courthouse->Market

Teayo is finally starting to starve.

1010 AD: Whoops! We are going to be fighting infantry. Greece has them. We need Cannon. Trade 24 gpt and 420 gold for Saltpeter. Some cities switched to Bank.

IBT: All quiet

1020 AD: Upgrade some Trebuchet

IBT:
Smyrna: Barracks->Knight
Ancyra: Library->Bank
Adrianople: Knight->Knight

1030 AD: Upgrade a few Trebuchet

IBT:

1040 AD: Save money (2 more trebuchet).

IBT:
Constantanople: Knight->Knight
Varna: Musket->Musket
Sardica: Courthouse->Market

1050 AD: Make peace with the Aztecs straight up.

Notes:
We have a few opportunities. With Aztec peace we can trade for Wines from them or furs from Greeks or both. We need lux badly. One idea would be to trade lux with Aztecs and then try to buy Mil Trad to attack Greece. Or we could decide we can't attack Greece soon so go for both Lux and try to buy something like Steam.

The Americans looked ok when I traded, but they are fading. I hope I didn't make a mistake. Do we really lose rep if America is destroyed? I wasn't sure.

Teayo will starve to size 1 next turn.

I am curious how many Knights (or Cavs) it would take to kill 2-3 Infantry fortified in size 7+ cities and have a good chance of winning. I continued to build Military, but I wasn't sure if that was the best idea. Maybe more cannon?
