What does this picture make you feel? Do you think it is an accurate portrayal of Jesus?

Read more about it here:

How many Christian threads must pop up? We know it's gonna end badly with trolling, flaming, and fighting.

There is a reason he surrounded himself with members of the lower classes . . . he said very little about politics.

Historically, people (Christian and non-Christian) have read their own views and beliefs into Jesus of Nazareth more than anyone else - what someone thinks of him tells you far more about them than about Jesus.

inaccurate pic. jesus should have head and hair white like wool, as white as snow, and eyes blazing like fire. His feet should be like bronze glowing in a furnace. In his right hand he should be holding seven stars, and there should be a sharp double edged sword coming out of his mouth. Oh and his face needs to be shining like the sun.

other than that its pretty accurate....

Ahhh the original hippy do gooder. Does he do bunions too?

Robo_snickers - still too sexy for civfanatics? that whats you all should be asking

That is an interesting point, howevewr I do not think that the picture is supposed to represent his political views. I think that it is supposed to show how he is willing to was the feet of everyone, even if they are considered enemies of Christianity.

I think, not quite. On one hand, we have Matthew 9:10-13 (They that are in health need not a physician, but they that are ill.)

On the other hand, we have Luke 10:10-12 (it shall be more tolerable at that day for Sodom than for that city.)

So, the picture would be quite accurate if all these guys came to Jesus as 'publicans and sinners', but did they?

It makes me feel curious. Only one of the leaders has their shoes off so it looks like Jesus' is only going to wash the Black guy's feet. It looks like some sort of statement of Jesus' respect for Blacks or sub-Saharan Africans.

Nobody has any idea what Jesus looked like. He could have had scoliosis, exema, no teeth & a 3rd nipple for all we know. That's why it's so pathetically hilarious when a Christian claims to have seen an image of Jesus in the clouds or on a pizza pan. It's also why Merkinball's post is a bullseye.

Sounds like the Messiah to me. Love your enemies, after all.

Wheres his shoe???

Hes only washing the feet so he can get to the shoes if you ask me.:p

A quote of a quoted article, but this struck me as it mirrored my reaction:

To me that picture illustrates deep christian magic. Contrary to what some may think, it does not glorify the people getting the foot wash. The fact that their feet are being washed says nothing about their virtue. On the contrary, it glorifies the foot washer. It is a picture of deep humility and inner strength, the kind of strength that would allow someone so awesome to remain humble at the feet of what we can all agree are worldly scumbags. Essentially, that is a deeply illustrative picture of Jesus’s sacrificial love for a very unlovable mankind. There is nothing to be offended about in that picture if you look at it that way. In fact it is quite awesome in my book. That is deep magic, the kind Jesus tried so hard to teach folks about but we just refuse to get it because it goes against our sinful nature.

Well, except for the sinful nature part at the end...

Jesus and Paul and friends did miracles but didn't encourage inventions . He proposed a social system still backwards maybe a bit superior than other in some ways but his system didn't change Human nature. I rate the Classical wave of Greek thought and then of Greco-Roman thought as the most important evolution of Humanity in all ways , social , political , economical and so on.

Until the Renaissance.

Did Christianity play a role in the Renaissance , Yes it did. However i believe we wouldn't have to wait so long until Renaissance if Christianity didn't exist since for it's domination , the classical thought was hunted down.

So Jesus sucks.

I bet Osama's thinking "I'm gonna show him the soles of my feet, the infidel!"

Probably not since he likely considers him a prophet.;)
