JNES: Learning to Walk

Denin War, Phase Two

Gargari forces, remaining in the mountain, begin to march back into the plains but then circled back, for no reasons. The Denin, confused about this and being cautious, decide not to pursue the Gargari into the hills. Instead, they remain guarding the foothills and the route to the capital. Poltia experiences major rennovations in defensive strategy.

But as the tension begins to smooth, the Denins recieve what they thought was a slip of Gargari plans: and invasion from the south. Quickly the forces are fixed to fix a puncture in the southern frontier. However, the Gargari then launch their invasion from the hills and clash with the Denin army on the plains, much to the Gargari advantage. The battle rages here, with a huge surplus in Gargari troops compared to Denin.

Another Gargari force lands again on the coast, but the Denin are prepared for this, learning from the first time. Huge beach heads were covered with scouts, archers and catapults, which set fire to many Gargari galleys before they even unload. The fleet is forced to retreat. (-300 Gargari Swordsmen, -350 Denin Spearmen)

can we make peace with barbarians? as in try and get them to join us instead of just killing them and conquering?

Gah, well can't expect to have it all my own way :)

I love this battle system

Will you continue to sculk in Poltia like dogs? If only you had welcomed with us in the begining we would have joined you with open arms instead of crossed blades! But there is still a chance for peace if you swear tribute to the council of chiefs.

Extrapolating the scale of things:

The above map provides a scale of 53 pixels being equal to 1,000 miles (1,609 km). Thus, one pixel side is equal to about 18.868 miles (30.365 km). From that, we find that one pixel is equal to about 356 square miles (573 sq km).

The current land holdings of Alahre (excl. black outline around landmass) are 105 pixels, so that means that Alahre controls roughly 37,380 square miles (60,157 sq km) of territory - roughly the size of Latvia (64,589 sq km).

The complete land area of the known world (incl. rivers, excl. black outline around landmass) is roughly 91,592 pixels, about 32,606,622 square miles (52,475,271 km) - about 6% larger than Asia or roughly a third of Earth's total landmass.

cool. Presumably that's 1000 miles at the equater--which I presume is in the middle of the map. In your total land area calculations did you compensate for map distortion?

what do story bonuses do?

I assumed that the map is distortion free and all pixels are equal in size, since Jason has only provided one scale.

I wouldn't take that at face value, Dreadnought. It's very hard to represent thin land masses on a world map effectively; I think any NES map should be taken with a grain of salt the size of Texas.

So the ishmus my land occupies is 1000miles+ across? (if one pixel = 300 Miles) :( Hard to defend

You misunderstand - one pixel side is about 19 miles, the area of one pixel is 356 square miles.

Thats about the size I wanted the land to be...not as large as the real world, but not too small either. Comments? Btw, cool facts plex, thanks.

If you write a story that is worthy of my deeming so (:)), then I will add you to the list, and you get a sort of story point, if you will. The higher you have of these, the more likely bad things wont happen to your nation. You are only allowed one story point a turn. Eventually I will begin to transform points into good events, and thus you must build your point system up again.

Be aware that there is no guarantee that nothign bad will happen to your nation.

Jason- I still haven't gotten a response form the Nefesians. Did they agree to the royal marriage and unification or not?

Nope.

To The Denin people, our erstwhile foemen
From Karkryekoj Verzo Gargari, speaking on behalf of the Kryekeshi (Council of chiefs) and through their authority, the whole Gargari people.

There can be going back to the mountains for we Gargari, here we are, and here we will stay. When we first came arrived on these plains, some of you traded with us, and some of you fought against us. Those of you who traded were ignorant of the Rules that goven us, and in that ignorance gave offence. To settle this matter between us, which will only remain to flare up if we remain seperate, we are prepared to welcome the Denin people into our nation, with these terms;

- 1/3 of the Kryekeshi seats are to be reserved for Denin headsmen and chiefs.
- Our captives who still have homes remaining will be returned to you, those who do not will be raised as if they were our own.
- You our to follow the Gargari Code and thus have full rights of venegence on an individual level, and any escalation against you will be prevented by the power of the Karkryekoj
- As for your King and royal family, we Gargari do not base a mans merits on whose house he was born too, but rather to his own deeds. but as your rights to select your leaders for the Kryekeshi are in your hands, he could have an honoured place there, though will not retian the powers he currently has.
- We will give all assistance we can to rebuilding your wartorn lands.
- Gar Versey will be open to Denin merchents and Poltia is to be opened to our traders
- The Denin army as it is now is to be disbanded and merged with the hosts under the command of the Kyrekeshi, though your king may keep an honour guard of no more than 100 men.

All these things we offer openhanded without thought to trickery. A Gargari's word is an unbreakable bond, and we give it freely to you now. This offer will only be made once.

Hmmmm, I was reading the update. Jubilant in my belief that the update had finally arrived. In my Helvetican ruler-mindset I started thinking 'who are these pathetic nations' :D and then just when I started reading about the third obscure mini-state I checked the title 'JNES:Learning to Walk'.

What about the old NES, Jason? Don't you want to write about civilizations that have achieved wonders beyond clearing building sites for rocks and vegetation?

To Gargari
From Denins

We were supposing to be tribute, but remain an indepedent nation. If this is the only way you wish for peace, then we must find it unacceptable.

OOC: Good update...

Missed that one. "Jasonian Century"?

Btw, can you please add Disenfrancised's map to the first page? I think it should be there, its useful. I'm still rather confused as to what is where.

To the obstinate Denin peoples
From the Gargari

We have seen what happens when we live apart; your lack of respect for our ways, and our lack of tolerence for those who break our laws will merely rekindle this conflict at a later date. The next time we meet, our blades shall do the talking.

I'd like to change my orders slightly (add in some tactics mainly  ) shall I resend the whole set for the the Denin war phase 3?
