Hey, is any one interested in helping me create a rather large and time consuming fantasy scenario? I can suply the main bulk of the story line, Tech tree advancements, names and map if you suply the units, build the tech tree, and balance the units. Who wants in on the action?

I was thinking something like this, Morten (This is the pre-scen text):

"Sir Knight, Your Majesty's land stands on the brink of invasion. To the North are the People of Light, to the South are the Shadow Weavers, and you are in the middle. The Shadow Weavers have become angered at the People of Light for some unknown reason and both are massing rather large armies. You have tried to calm each of these counties in turn, but to no avail. If you can not stop them, the King's land will be torn to pieces."

Notes:
The objective is to surrvive a long term invasion (about 500-600 turns).

Loss of the capitol is an instant scenario over.

Desisive Victory = Holding on to the capitol and ALL important (objective) cities while capturing some enemies' (also objectives) cities.
Marginal Victory = Holding on to the capitol and atleast 12 objective cities (I'm talkin large scen.)
Maginal Defeat = Having less than 12 objective cities.
Desisive Defeat = Lossing ALL objectives, inclueding the capitol.

People of Light are like humans except they are completely white. Units they might have are: Infantry Men, Angels (Heavy Infant.), Horsemen, Pegasus Men, Wizards....I'll think of more.

Shadow Weavers are the real mix of evil things, inclueding demons, spirits/the undead, sorcerers, dragons, etc. possible units are: Visages, Skelliton Infantry (I found a good unit in the avatars section .), Demons (Heavy Infant.), Dragons, Sorcerers.

Um...Lets call the Kingdom you are defending Gorn. Gorn people are like regular men. Units for them might be: Infantry, Legionaries (medium infant.), Knights (heavy infant.), Horsemen, Mounted Knights, Mages, Battle Mages (like mages with a really high defense), and a few UNBUILDABLE heroes + the Royal Guard and King.

Tell me what you think so far :goodjob:

Sounds pretty okay so far. :D I like the basic premise, but I do think the main race should have each owns agenda, besides protecting its own borders. How about a King who has been destined to bring peace to the land, by an old prophecy?

I think 5-600 turns is way too long however. Yes I know, many scenarios are that long. But it'd be nice to see something a bit shorter. Depends on the theme and depth of it all of course.

How about a few more tribes? -Orcs, an horde like civ, -Dragons, a solitary, yet very dangerous civ, Elves -forest people etc. Perhaps the two sides could be set up as partly alliances, with civ no.7 in the spot middle. Perhaps those inferior civs has techs or units, that the Gorn people needs in their defences or to build certain wonders etc? Then perhaps a long scenario could be more interesting?

The prophecy sounds good....Might want to buuld upon that though. I can't just say to the player "The King is destined to bring peace to the world, now go destroy every one."

I was thinking a long scenario because I want a large number of cities (atleast 80, maybe more.)

The different tribes sound good, techs they might have: Dragon Tome (gives the receiver the ability to build dragons), Spell Tome (Gives the receiver access to all spells, ie missle units that can be launched from Mages, Wizards, ect..), and maybe something called....um....(thinking)....Durin's Tome? It would give the receiver access to a placeable wall unit.

More ideas to come :goodjob: (I'll start the map tomorrow or tonight.)

Hey, Morten, you're good at animals, right? Could you make some

dragons (Try for large, winged...well you know what a dragon looks like.),
demons (Think big, buff people with horns and minotor-type heads),
and hell hounds (Like dogs except they have horns and look really evil. You might be able to modify one of your existing units.)

Thanks in advance....btw, any ideas for the map?

Units -no problemo! -I've got a lot of good fantasy units lying around on my hd. Have you thought about terrains, any special terrain effects? -Like, say, burned villages etc? I can supply some neat effects. I'll look into it and get back to you. :)

For map and terrain inspiration, take a look at the Ultima scenario, which has some quite inspiring graphics work.

Have you read the Dragonlance novels? Someone (don't remember his name, sorry) was working on a scenario about the War of the Lance (from these novels), and it looked pretty promising. Apparently it was never finished, but he sent me his files. There's lots of ideas we can use, or alternatively, we could finish it, with his permission. Its a damn inspiring story anyway.

Burn villages! I never thought of that! We could make a unit that looks like a village and put it over a 'burned village' terrain. When the unit is destroyed it looks as though some one burned the village. Hmmm.

As far a terrain goes, nothing special except I want mountains that look tall and forbidding, not the squat standard things. I suppose there could also be a 'dragon island' with a different type of terrain. Hmm....(thinking)....Ah-ha! Better grasslands. I hate the standard ones :cringe:. Make it look like grass for God's sake! And revamp the swamps and jungles, also the glaciers and tundera. That's about it :goodjob:

Steal ideas too! Anything that enhances the original theme is good.

btw, when you finnish the units and terrain I requested so far (There IS more to come, just so you know) could you post them? If you can that would be great!

Damn.....I'm writting longer posts now! Most of my posts are usually one line!

Here's a couple of dragons, for starters. They are modified versions of dragon units taken from different places, I added the fire thingys and changed the last one from a blue one to red. The gold dragon is a AoW conversion done by myself.

I am looking at adapting "Dark Emperor" (AH Game) to civ...

It would be on a small map, lot of fast moving combat and diplomacy...

Units are about the only thing I need, the rest is stuck in my head...

The gold and red look great! Could you ad wings to the first one though?

Great job, Morten :goodjob:

See the unit I am using as my avatar? That would make a great skelliton Warrior.

Morten, do you think you could make me a shark rescourse (something along the lines of two shark finns circling around in the water) for my scenario contest entry? :)
We need to talk more about the map for that as well...

Henrik, you thread-jacker! This is a thread about my joint scenario project (You can still contribute! Just tell me if you want to and then post some of your ideas...it's that easy.) not Morten's very good looking units and graphic modification skills.

Btw, Morten, I got the map done. Should I e-mail you a copy or post it here?

Henrik and Fox, requests should be sent to me by email, or alternatively in the "graphics work-in progress" thread... ;) -I made that thread specifically to avoid threadjacking other threads with graphics questions. :) Fox, I don't think vampire units are that common, but one should be able to modify some existing graphics to that theme. The Apolyton "Dracula" contest must've thrown off some vampirish stuff... Henrik, no prob about those sharks. If you send me an email, we can discuss it over AIM.

Now, Xeven, good to hear you've got the map done. I was thinking maybe we can do it a bit like throwing back the game files between us, especially the rules.txt and units.gif etc., and then each of us work on bits of these files, while the other can get motivation and inspiration from seeing what has been done. You'll be master designer and get the final word, and I'll primarily do basically game balance stuff, and plug in graphics. But both of us can go in and make changes. And we can discuss whats needed etc.

So lets exchange files via mail, I'd like to see the map, the terrains you've got, and your units/cities-graphics. Then I can start putting in some neat stuff and send it back to you.

But you shouldn't wait up if I don't answer straight away (most of the time I will, tho), because I'm busy with something else. I think the basic idea is to get working, and overlapping work in bits doesn't hurt, the object is to get the best ideas worked into the scenario.

¨

OOps sorry about that :o
Wont happen again, I prommise ;)

What is your e-mail adress, Morten? The CivFanatics e-mail doesn't let you attach and it won't give my your e-mail adress so I can mail you with my yahoo account.

Notes on the map:

The swampy area is the Shadow Weaver's domain.

The Greeks are the Gorn people, The Romans are the People of Light, the Mogols are the Shadow Weavers. Egytians are a large sideline civ, Persians are the Elves. The Babylonians are a sideline civ, probably dragons. Germans are a sideline civ, haven't figured out what their perpose is yet.

Orcs are Barbs, haven't placed them yet. They go on the lower left hand side of the continent on the right. The location is a penninsula. You'll know what I am talking about when you find mountains and a river that runs throught the penninsula.

Set the barbs to restless tribes.

Morten:

Are you working on this joint project still? I have a great idea, but am in DIRE need of tech-tree organization. Many of my units are already complete, and my map is done already.

If you are, I will open a new thread for my fantasy scenario!
