Jon Stewart on Crossfire

Part of what I liked about Jon was his ability to call people on their issues without getting personal.

Attacking Tucker Carlson's trademark tie and calling him a dick made me lose a lot of the respect that Jon earned with his show. Shows me he is the same as every partisan hack out there with any reasonable amount of political clout in show-biz: Assanine.

ANd Tucker Carlson didn't give him a hard time until he started mocking Crossfire.

Deservedly or not, personal attacks are the call-sign of someone who has run out of decent arguements. I'd like to think Jon Stewart can outargue Tucker Carlson about partisan politics, but apparently he can't without making fun of the guys bowtie and calling him a "dick".

He wasn't on some Adam Sandler movie, he was on a partisan debate show, a good debate does not include the words "You are a dick".

or if they do, this OT could get a lot more interesting.

I guess that knowing he's a native New Yorker, I didn't take these as "personal", but just as mild humor with perfect timing. Nothing any two NY guys wouldn't say to each other every day.

That's the thing, right there. He DID stoop to their level, and him doing that cost me a lot of respect for him BECAUSE he did it.

Had he taken the high road and maintained his very right position that Crossfire breeds partisanship without calling Tucker a dick, I would feel very different about it.

Im Canadian, I have no concept of New Yorkers and their foul mouths

You know, it did bum me out, because then they never got back on track to get to the discussion of "Is Crossfire a true debate, or is it just partisan BS". I actually did want to hear that discussion, from both sides.

I am positive you are much better for it.:) It has taken me (literally) years to act "appropriately" out here in the PC wonderland. It's like learning an entire new language.

Nail, see your head, meet hammer.

I never understood politics very well but what does Partisan mean?

Completely loyal to your party.

SO it's the direct opposite of being objective?

Don't think of it in absolute terms like "Objectve-Subjective" think of it in limited terms, its party solidarity taken to the extreme.

So to use a term loosly so I can understand. Would the Nazi's around hitler be considered partisan?

It was a mistake, but he is human after all. From the moment he brought up his point Carlson was on his ass with asisnine comments, interruptions, and straw men (basically what Crossfire is all about). Stewart got frustrated and slipped, people do that, it's perfectly normal. It wasn't up to his normal standard, but one can certainly understand the mistake.

However, I challenge anyone to show that the statement in question is untrue.

I didn't see that episode. How did he slip?
