Because of POTENTIAL happiness issues, I foresee more limited wars instead of wars of total conquest. I LIKE!
I read through the patch notes and I do like most of them (or at least I am indifferent to them) however, I must say I don't like the new bonus for the Pyramids (to be fair I don't think any Civ game has come up with an actually good bonus for the wonder). As well as this, I don't get the new Free Speech bonus. I'm always fine with gameplay trumping realism but here it just really does not mesh well together.
But considering the amounts of changes only having two small issues is not that bad in my books.
The nerfs to happiness are the most worrisome for me, will need to see how this pans out but it could be disastrous.

Civ 2 did!!!!
Free granary in every city ESSSSSS
Seriously tho, Im getting giddy about this new patch, Freedom looks like a PHENOMENAL branch now for people like me who like smaller empires. Can you imagine what the tile yields will be in cities that have custom houses and Manufactories? With the yield increases from Economics, Chemistry and the policy finisher?
FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are a hellva lot of nerfs to happiness. I'm worried about that with only 1 buff that I saw.
Let's make this simple enough for you to follow....
- Deity is meant to be a challenge that a very small minority will be successful at.
- If you want a specific wonder on Deity, do not expect to be able to take it at your leisure. Rather, base your strategy around obtaining this wonder. Claiming that since you took the "normal subscribed routes" and got to mathematics late, the game sucks, is a supreme mark of idiocy.
Deity is not meant to be fair.
If you cannot accept that fact, drop your difficulty level. As the patch notes themselves say.
Absolutely... If you are willing to base your entire strategy around obtaining a wonder, you should be able to pull it off, even on Deity.
Absolutely nothing you said, however, indicated that you were willing to do so.
Adapt your strategy, or drop your difficulty. Those are your options; Pointless ing is just that, pointless.![]()
Well, if most experienced players start to use similar approaches like going down Honor instead of Tradition or Liberty, if everyone needs to chase the same +happiness wonders etc. if you get my drift...I highly doubt it, and if it will, the next patch will fix it after the community starts a nerdrage.

My real overall concern when adding up everything the patch will change, is not whether I would have to play immortal instead of deity. It's more... what about the 'playability' and 'variety' of the game?
The most used strategies to open the game have either been nerfed or to put it frankly, put to death. I fear that the strategies we will develop to take their place, will feel like a straight jacket, more so than ever before, because most players need to pick an approach (tech/building/SPs/pop growth/etc.) that favors happiness no matter which way you cut it.
I think the builder's approach has been nerfed, likewise those who seek cultural wins and those who favor large empires. This game is still called Sid Meiers Civilization, right, or will the patch re-name it into Sid Meiers Warmonger.![]()
Building is not the only way to obtain it though. Giving Immortal+ happiness and growth bonuses, the city that built it will be of size 50 or something on midgame and have every wonder and building you can imagine. While the civ that build it will probably almost always be the pack leader, it'll still be possible to capture that city at least occasionally (the AI is that bad to protect its cities). That would be an insane boost.
I still don't believe its 10fpt though. It's not what the patch notes say, and it would be strange massive unbalancing element in the game.
The programmers by popular request have beefed up two crap wonders to such an extent it has over emphasized their importance, Hanging Gardens and Porc Tower. You mark my words I can see this forum in a months time being full of complaints about how fantastic those wonders are, and if you don't manage to get them you might as well restart the game. This will apply to people who play any level, I mentioned Deity for one reason only and that was to emphasize the fact that it is impossible to get the Hanging Gardens. Are we supposed to stand by a ruins and keep reloading until we get Mathamatics as a tech? YOU PUT A FANTASTIC WONDER IN THE GAME THAT ONLY THE AI CAN GET. Why not just say, new rules for Deity level, Montezuma starts with the Hanging Gardens!
EDIT - Well said MKLH, you posted while I was typing.

Yeah, Pyramids seems kind of weak now. Plus, with some of the build times being reduced (or at least railroad time was, I forget if anything else was), it feels even weaker. It should just have a new benefit at this point. As for Free Speech, they should just change the name or something. Problem solved.
If you cannot handle the challenge that makes Deity what it is, decrease your difficulty. This is NOT a difficult concept to grasp. Continuing to cry about this is ludicrous, particularly when you have not yet even had a chance to play the patch.![]()
