Just bought the game....problems...i think

i just bought this game, i like it, but theres a problem, or at least I think there is. All of the faces of the leaders and such are blank, just showing there hats, glasses, and such. The fields, mountains, hills and plains are all invisible, replaced with a blackness....WTH. How do I fix this?

i'll post screen shots here in a min.

edit: as you can see, they have no faces. I don't know what to do....should I just return the game?

Well, you don't really need faces to play the game. You should start by applying the latest patch: http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/patch/. This will quite probably solve this issue. If not, please tell us what is your graphics card. Get new graphics drivers, reinstall directX.

I had this problem on my machine that was using an Intel Video Card (laptop). I updated the drivers and now it works fine. On my machine, this wasn't the only problem. Terrain wasn't showing up, units were missing, etc.
