Kal-el's Unit Concept Sketches

Edit: scene as how the moderator seem to have taken care of my problem with a few things said about certain religions Ill spare u...

Edit: well I did have a hefty long post here first of all stateing a few objections to a few things said about the Catholic faith and then simply asking that we exibit better traits (such as Tolerance and Forgiveness) in the future... but I will spare yall in light of the previous request from Kal

If the moderator could remove both this post of mine and the above one that would be great.... I would hate to mar this thread with a continuation of an ended "conversation"

Well I feel bad now the whole reason I took all this time to read all the way through this thread and I havent said a word about it....

Kal,

That is sum excellent drawing skills ur showing off....I only wish I could help with the units....I do hope they get here soon as i would use them for sumthing I have wanted to do for a long time... make every unit civ specific.... with every civ haveing and extra unit that they can use with a special purpose that gives them an edge....this is the type of stuff best suited for that purpose. I'm practically drooling thinking about it...

when (cause i know these ideas are too good to pass up) these are all done I hope they are collected into one large pack for easier download.... (hint hint)

I'd love to see Post-Gunpowder Egyptian Units.;) Of course, you've still got Rome, Greece, Hittitites, etc.;)

Their mounted corps would mainly be of elephants, but other than that, what makes their fott soldiers unique?:p

Just look at the Numidian Mercenary. Looks a lot different than other Mediterranean soldiers. I'm just saying, it's how Carthage is more unknown than they are to Egypt, Rome, etc.. thus making them more interesting. They're religion was unique as well.

:hmm: But that wa a mercenary...If you want units like that, ask Kal-el for Libyan sketches.

Exactly.. it was a mercenary. So what would the average Carthaginian look like, and what would they look like if they weren't conquered? My poiny exactly. Kal'el's sketches are alternative history.

:hmm: Oh! That's whatcha mean! Sorry.:undecide: Of course, I don't think anyone here knows what Carthginian Troops looked like.

THe Carthaginians do sound interesting.... I personally wanna know what an Egyptian Paratrooper would look like....OOOO...or a Sumerian Modern Infantry....

Don't be sorry, it's alright. There's got to be some form of picture (drawing, painting, etc) of Carthaginian soldiers. The free RTS game 0AD is making Carthaginian units for their game, and they were included in AoE. Hmm.. but what would they look like in Medieval times. I would combine a classical look with an Arabic African look. It'd be very interesting. :crazyeye:

NOOO!

sorr yto be so brunt, but it was tha carthaginian -horsemounted- cavalry that was the creme of the crop, elephents were brought along NOT to fight the romans, but to drum up tribal support with the fantasitcal beasts that the celts, and celtiberian allies, and mercenaries had thought were the things of legends...

as far as what carthacinians look like- well honestlly, they should look like everybofy elses units- literally, considering they used mercenaires, and showd no sighns fo stopping be the end of the Punic wars

I do ;)

I do too ;)

I had a long post about Elephants, but I lost it :(

Anyway, even though Carthage used almost exclusively Mercenaries, I think there is a Carthaginian style.

The Numidian Mercenary (from Libya ;) ) uses a similar style to what Carthage would have used for any citizen army at one time (I don't think there were much of a citizen army by the time of the Punic Wars, though). Here is a Carthaginian Spearman, although the Numidian Mercenary would fill the role as well, and probably had a longer history

This could be a Carthaginian Swordsman. It is a Mercenary from Iberia (it was common in Carthage to have Iberian troops guarding African cities, while African troops guarded Spain). Galic troops would also have been very common, especially in Hannibal's army

This is probably the last picture that looks similar to the rest. Its a Carthaginian Horseman. It could be a Horseman replacement, except I'd suggest a Numidian Light Cavalry instead.

The rest don't look like these Carthaginain units.

Balearic Slingers - from the Balearic islands, these stone slingers could hurl stones so effectively that they were often prefered over Archers and Javelin Throwers.

Numidian Cavalry - on the right wing at Cannae, these Light Horsemen were known to ride close to an enemy, throw Javelins at them, and back away before they were even able to be counter-attacked. In the end, Scipio allied with Numidian prince Masinissa to give him the Cavalry he desperately needed, allowing him to defeat Hannibal at Zamma.
