Kal-el's Unit Concept Sketches

think about it, all that stuff is found in christian and islamic doctrine too, but that hasn't stopped holy warriors arising from those religions.

and how many ancient Egyptian crusades have you read about?

how 'bout NONE! :p

If you want to design good units, then you have to abide by a nations culture Kal-El, and currentlly, yours don't

Aww, come now, Xen, this is not a battle worth waging. In fact there is no battle to wage. Have you ever heard of the multi-universe theory? Let's just say that your mod represents the true universe and everyone else's represents alternative universes that are also true, even though it is inconsistent with yours, the true universe. Ours will simply represent possibilities that never occured in your true universe. In some of our worlds, the Axis were the victors over the allies, in others of our worlds, the Egyptian knights fought in the name of anubis. But of course yours being the only true world, your knights would have fought in the name of Set.

btw, it takes less than five seconds to rename a unit in the editor.

HAHAHA, well the reason they wouldn't have gone on crusades is because their cross is actually the ankh. Maybe they'd have gone on the ankhsades, or just ankhing. But they would not have gone crusading.;) And I'm nearly serious about this point.

but renameing a unit dose NOTHING if the unit still has Anubis all over it...

and yes, this is very much a battle worth fighting- I dont like other polytheistic religions being marred just because the forums have no one practicing them in here to defend them- and as such I take it upon myself to help them- devote christians would be offended I'm sure if you started taking highlly important, peaceful, noble figures, and started marring thire name by having them associated with battle, the ancient religions are no different

as for crusadeing- ancient religions are by nature tolerant of each other, it is the monotheistic religions who are the basis of religious wars

yes, but things that never happened happening is the consequence of multi-universe theory

if they happend, yet never happend, then how do we know they happend?

;)

no, all it means is that any phenomenon that could possibly occur does occur; but each universe only gets one set of possiblities. So somewhere, there is a somber universe in which the axis won the battle of the bulge and routed the allied forces, just in time to unleash the jet fighter and atomic bomb. And just as unlikely, there are a whole bunch of universes in which the knights fought for anubis. yet, of course, you live in the real world and you have tangible forensic evidence that says that the knights fought in the name of set. So you should charge yourself in making your mod after history. But many of us are interested in investigating through our imagination a world in which the losers win the battle. In which Oda and not the Tokugawa unites Japan; in which Napolean defeats Wellington; in which the Aztecs rout the conquistadors; in which the battle of the bulge is won by the "wrong" side. And in this vein, many of us are interested in investigating how the world would be different had the knights fought in the name of anubis and not set.

EDIT: anubis being the loser in the real world since set "won" the prize of having knights dedicate their victories to him.

Kal-el, how goes the egyptian Pikeman idea? I hope Kinboat decides to make some of these Egyptian Flavor units within a few months!:D

well that sthe thing though- the Egyptians didnt dedicate victoires to any gods- even having Set is stretching Egyptian thrology-0 but it is the only thing close to a religiouslly charged warrior... its heard to explain, best put, ANY Egyptian knight shouldnt have ANY theological icons on him, other then perhaps the eye of Ra

Yeah, Xen makes a good point there...And besides, the worship of Set in most of Egypt's history was virtually unknown, as he was considered by most the embodiment of true evil...

 What about the crux ansata -- the ankh -- I think going into battle wearing a symbol of eternal life (in a culture so obsessed with eternal life that it has been described as "funerary") would be at least somewhat reassuring.

amenhotep must be right. Even i know that set cut osiris into itsy-bitty pieces.

Fortunately, by the time I get knights in my game, the egyptians will be a republic and have advanced to monotheism. Anubis will then be a cultural throwback with the added advantage of providing protection against arrows and blows to the head.

:crazyeye: forgot about the ankh :crazyeye:

monotheism isnt nescissarilly an advancement ;)

yup, the lesson of osiris's stitching is that immortality may be in reach:thumbsup:

tech advancement is civ3 terminology

EDIT: even if your enlightened polytheism knows better
