Kal-el's Unit Concept Sketches

hmmm... this thread is a bit off track :)

and besides, why can the babylonians build tanks?!?!?!11+1+ I demand this must be changed! Their civilization has died long before industrial era... :p

@Kal-el:
Great looking axeman

kal-el, you said that your next project wil be to enliven the zulu civ.

if so, then you must check out redking's request for exotic zulu calvary. he has a picture of some extinct zebra-horse called the quagga. our zulu unit must charge into battle on one of those.

Taking the model of Judaism as a monotheism "success story" there should be an intermediate step between Polytheism and Monotheism called "Monolatrism" (real word) meaning the belief in the absolute supremacy of one deity over all others. This is reflected in Biblical writings up to the time of the penning of Deuteronomy.

The zebra is not domesticable -- and the quagga is generally thought to be a sub-species of zebra:

Kal-El, is there some sort of historical precedent for that axe-head? I find it looks kind-of wierd. A looooooooong time ago I drew weapons (all over my schoolbooks), and I remember drawing an Egyptian axe head that looked a lot different. (I remember it because I liked it so much that I doodled it all the time.) I tried to whip something up on MS Paint, see below.

Course, how the haft attaches to the head I can't remember at all, and I probably exaggerated the "swoop" of the blade etc., but the idea's there.

Anyways, just curious as to your axe-head design, primarily because of my childhood memories of a different Egyptian axe head...silly me...

I'd be willing to debate all day the assumption the mono-anything is better then the polytheistic way- in paticuler, the Greco-Roman way, just because we dont wage wars to convert the entire populace of a country dosent mean there arnt a few divine truths behing the religion ;)

Yes, personally, I always found Polytheism and Monotheism to be too objectionable techs. Mainly because one comes after the other, but also because you have non-polytheistic cultures researching that tech, and vise versa.

That's why... in the The Age of Man mod, every civ has its own religion!! :saiyan:

I dunno... for some reason, that emoticon seemed to punctuate that nicely... ;)

Gah! You know... I just remembered that there was this website of Poser model downloads that had an Anubis, but of course, Ididn't bother to download it because I said to myself "When am I ever gonna need a model of Anubis?"

Dumb. :crazyeye:

I'll keep looking for the site.

Oh, looks like my memory sucks.

What's more, Kal-El's axe seems to be in this pic (below) loud and clear.

Well, in that case, I vote for the "piercing axe," because it was more of an effective and influential weapon development than the slashing-axe was (from what I can gather):
The piercing axe was designed to penetrate armour, above all helmets. In Asiatic cultures this brought about a change in the way the blade was connected to the handle. The blade was cast with an eye through which the handle could be inserted. In Egypt on the other hand they continued to use the old method of fixing the blade to the handle in a mortise and tenon fashion. from http://nefertiti.iwebland.com/weapons/edged_weapons.htm

Actually, it wasn't.

The one I was looking for was a free download from a group named Third Eye Functions, but they seem to have disappeared.

This one is as good though. Thanks.

Ozy - regarding Monolatrism, that's a very interesting suggestion for the evolution of a tech tree, especially in a scenario. I like that.

Ozy - regarding the quagga - don't be so damned contrarian :D ! Go read the thread to which he's referring, in which I suggest a Zulu mount colored like the quagga, but explicitly state that the quagga was:
a) a zebra
b) undomesticable and (practically) unridable
It was just a suggestion/request with some graphic interest.

It's getting pretty deep in here... and as I don't claim belief in any religion I feel perfectly fine making the Anubis Knight (May he strike me dead for blasphemy if he can) and have just one more thing to say.... IT"S A BLOODY GAME XEN... The Anubis knight doesn't malign the Egyptian's ancient beliefs any more than the representation of the Nazi swastika promotes Nazism or the Terrorist unit promotes terrorism. It's a game...

So is that an offer to make the Anubis knight?

EDIT: Btw, If you don't want to, I will as I am sure that I'm going to hell no matter what deity may be in control...

I just wonder what undomesticable actually means (not an English vocabulary pb though :p ). Always found weird some animals are domesticable and others not. What's the difference ? Is it really in their genes or is it just a matter of length of contact with humans ?
Obivously it is not only a size pb since the Indian elephant is still bigger than the African zebra. But strange than as soon as you go south of the Sahara, many species "become" "undomesticable" while their Asian counterparts were "domesticable" especially if you consider man has probably spent more time in Africa than on any other continent

Sorry for becoming OT (not more than most probably) but if anyone had an idea ?

BTW no baboon-helped Egyptian policeman yet ?

Not only that, but most horses are larger than the zebra.

embryodead: That is an awesome looking shield. Sharkey produces quality stuff.

For those of us who use Poser, there's just certain people out there who we know... ;).
