Kal-el's Unit Concept Sketches

lol, so maybe the Romans would have a uniform for thier rifleman like a cross between French Rifleman and Italian Rifleman with the main color being red and perhaps a bit of white and blue :)

what do u think Xen?

well honestlly, I think thats about as far from the truth as one could get- nooffense, but if the Roman empire ahd survived, it would continued its traditions of style, and elegance in arms, armor, and uniform design for as long as remaind practicle- and even then, one can rest assured, that ceremonial parde uniforms would have reminded as traditional as ever...

in other words, until the industrial era, I dont see there being much change in the standard legionary uniform at all, except for what was practicle to use in any point in time..

yep, more or less this guy-

I might add, this wonderful unit was made by none other then our wonderful talent, Dom Pedroo II!

lol, u know just before I came back to this page to see if anyone had responded I was looking at that unit....btw nice job Dom :)

I think I downloaded it too...

Question though, isnt that a musketman type of replacement not a rifleman... I mean im lookin for 1800's type of era ....

ahh, I tend to lop the two terms together most of the time when discussing stuff ;)

but yes, mabey lighter armour- or even more of a conquisador style plate cuirass, and a helmet, even if for ceremonial purposes only (Napoleonic Dragoons, need I more proof on the matter) and a few other styleistic additions, and I'd say that would be a damn good rifleman (since the current rifleman covers more or less the napoleonic, and American Civil wars)

Well, Xen would prefer to have them fighting in legionary outfits till present day... though whether he can conscript me through flattery into making such units is another matter... :p

not in full blown legionary out fits- but defintelly somthing that on first glance makes you say "thats a Roman uniform"

and I'll have you know my next ROman units skips over every single counterpoint one might have against sucha uniform entrirlly, but I wont reveal what that unit is until all my sketchers are complete- I have a very good idea of exactley what I want this unit to look like, including what the attach animation should look like... so you'll all just have to wait ;)

Mobilize dosent want more Roman UUs, and DOm, your just lazy :p (dotn be offended, but I wasnt planning on asking you to make the unit anyway- it needs to many scratch made items, such as the helmet, body armour, pants, boots, gun, ect, and I know you dont like makeing them

well, not the boots, any can be used for them, but its some of the stuff that goes over the boots that would need to be made from scratch ;)

I never said I didn't want more Roman units. I wish there was a Roman flavor unit for every single unit. I just would prefer flavor units for other civs rather than for Rome.

What kind of things make your Roman rifleman unique?

... So (he ponders) "Why not just jump into this one?"

19th Century Roman Rifleman --

If the Scots wore kilts, the Roman "skirt" can essentially remain the same. Lose the curaisse (sp?) unless we're talking dragoons. Bright colors were the order of the day so a nice bright Roman tunic. Helmet has crest just as the picklehaube had a spike or (for that matter) the French WW1 helmet a small crest. Heck, even give him a cloak for a more dashing "Ave Caesar!" etc.

Later evolution could still keep the "kilt" although bright colors of course become problematic ...

I never said it was a rifleman did I ;)

as for other flavor units- not my problem, I iwsh there were flavor units for all civs as well, but in my, very biased opinion, ROme comes first- its history alone justifies it takeing the lead of nations that get flavor units- and Rome happens to have a very noisy, and many times troublesome backer who dosetn know when to give up (and therefore, eventually, almost always wins ;))

I liek this idea alot :) chalk it up for what teh Roman rifle man should look like, while I continue designing the Unit I'm currently involved in

as for tunics- i more or less came to the conclusion that design wise the unti could look very Roman- but ti would not have the ROman national colours on it- it would be in camo just like modern day troops, just be of a Roman flavor in design (at least until technology renders como obsolete anyway)
