Kennedy Curse? Ted Kennedy's Plane Struck By Lightning

Why are they bootleggers?
People who made and sold home made alcahol, generally during the Prohibition. That's how the Kennedy family originally made it's fortune, by breaking the law.

So you could say that they're America's last surviving crime family. :mischief:

Woah, why such personal attacks? Someone getting into accidents because they're drunk has nothing to do with their political affliliation.

Of all those mishaps, only one, (the teddy bridge incident), was because he was drunk. I suppose JFK and RFK were drinking when they got shot? When teddy almost died in the plane crash?

Don't lecture us about drinking and driving. GWB has a DUI, and Dick Cheney has 2, plus he shot a guy. Larua Bush killed a guy in a car wreck too.

I'll never get this "Kennedy Curse" thing.

One dies after pissing off just about every influential person in America (and elsewhere) he gets shot. Another one speaks of fighting on the side of zionism, the next day he's shot by an arab. Another gets drives into a ditch killing his passenger, because he's stinking drunk. Another crashes into a tree throwing a football back and forth whilst downhill skiing, then one more gets it when he crashes his plane which he was piloting with a broken foot.

Curse? Given their record of pure recklessness, I'd say they're extremely fortunate that there's any of them left.

I suppose you can count 99% of America as supporting breaking the law, because prohibition lacked any common sense.

Wow does being politically right wing, mean you lose your sense of decency too

While I agree the comment was way over the line, I don't think you can legitimately connect it to being on the political right. Last year, IIRC, Laura Ingraham was diagnosed with breast cancer, and I saw multiple celebratory posts wishing her a painful demise on DU. Elizabeth Edwards was able to reign in the comments briefly on the site. Once the DU moderators realized that right wing sites were commenting about the thread, though, they decided to intervene and delete posts.

Anyway, regarding the lightning strike... though I generally disagree with Sen. Kennedy's politics, I am glad that no one was hurt. I would feel the same way even if the plane carried one of my state's senators (with whom I also usually disagree).

Sometimes airplanes are struck by lightning. Logically, people who fly more often are more likely to be affected. I don't believe the supernatural had any influence on this occurrence, any more than I believe it did when Tony Blair's plane was struck a year ago.

And George Bush's grandfather cut business deals with the Nazi Party. And he has a DUI record. AND he's a recovering cocaine addict.

But wait! It's only ok to say things like this about Democratic politicians! :crazyeye:

Planes get hit by lightning all the time. If the headlines were "Ted Kennedy's plane abducted by pinecone resembling space aliens" then I'd think they have an abnormally unlucky streak going.

Should I throw in the obligatory "Ted Kennedy has killed more people with his car than Dick Cheney has killed with his shotgun"?

Anyway, I don't think there's a Kennedy curse, and while I have an enormous dislike for Ted Kennedy, alcoholism seems to be a vice that spans all political boundaries.
