Kerbal Space Program

It doesn't let you launch until the previous launch has moved at least 40km away from the launchpad.

False.

Within 40km of the pad everyone is in their own isolated world. When you get out of that bubble you join everyone else.

So if I launch when Warpus launches then we will materialize at the same time (possibly in the same place) and then we explode and I win.

Regarding multiplayer:
It would be epic if we all worked on a massive base together on some other planet. It would cut down the time required to build one with all the infrastructure, launches and deep space cruising down considerably.

Or a huge convoy of ships sent to the Jool system (or wherever), each person controlling 3 to 5 ships each. Then we all meet up wherever, build a space station, and send missions down to whichever surface.

Sounds like we could set up a pretty awesome drag race to the Mun.

You could set down a flag on the Mun somewhere, and the first person to get a guy to it wins. So you not only have to have a good first stage design, but also the 2nd stage, the lander, you'd have to be good at precision landings, and orbit maneuvers.

Or we could play tag.

I was thinking of everyone launching simultaneously, and we would all appear once we hit the 40 km mark. Then we would have to avoid other each other's debris while racing to land anywhere on the Mün first. Weapons are totally legal.

It'd be like Speed Racer without anime graphics and more space.

Multiplayer KPS? :woohoo: I wanna play too!

I am more for a cooperative game, building an international space station would be funny!

One Razorback Mobile Hab down, one to go. The other one is in Laythe orbit, I'll bring it down after class and then begin work on the Laythe Orbital Station.

Mission Progress:
5 Reusable SSTO Landers of 2 different models in orbit - both models have been tested
1 Mobile Hab touched down
1 Mobile Hab in orbit, ready for surface deployment
4 Mini-Mobility rovers touched down
1 ersatz-Depot (converted cruise stage with leftover fuel) in orbit with possibilities for at least 3 more after lander deployment
1 dedicated mapping and communication satellite (converted empty cruise stage) in orbit
1 engineless lander touched down - converted to weather station for the target island

Wild Warpus and rapey-ass polar bear sightings: 0

I'd like to see (sometime) a collaborative effort of Jool System exploration and colonization. That would be fun (especially when I deorbit interplanetary transfer stages willy nilly onto Hobbs' Laythe base).

re: server requirements

For those who can't tell from the animation, it's running on a UDOO board, which is about the size of 2 credit cards side-by-side. Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU running at 1GHz, 1GB DDR3 RAM, 16GB MicroSD.
Works like a charm :)

So really just need some proper internet support to host it. It does take up a lot of bandwidth, optimizations are needed there.

Yeah in light of all the Hobbshate, I'm going to beef up security and AA defenses at my base.

Finally built a stable jet and tanker pair.

The Gremlin Vertijet uses a patented landing leg and small gear bay assemblage to land on its rear end. It can then tip itself over for refueling with the patented Gremlin Joust refueling tanker/ground tracking station or it can take back off VTOL after the pilot has repacked the chutes. It's the most stable jet I've made yet. :D

As it is a manned jet it probably won't get sent to Laythe until after the orbital station and deep-space crew cycler are launched so the pilot won't be stranded.

Also, in the event we do actually get this thing up and running, everyone involved needs to read the FAQ and bring only stock parts.

That is a really clever jet-tanker combo, I especially like the ad-hoc VTOL system.

Thanks. I was trying to figure out a way to land the jet in such a way so that terrain wouldn't matter for take off. Layth has insanely hilly/mountainous terrain so if I land in the midst of that takeoff runs will be dicey. This way it lands on it's tail and can then VTOL so I don't have to deal with takeoff runs at all.

I am going to stick a landing leg on the front so that after it refuels in the normal position I can prop it up at an angle off its wheels and take back off without a ground roll. I took inspiration from a real life plane called the Vertijet I saw on Discovery Wings; it was a pretty cool little jet in the 50's.

Yup. Hopefully the major bugs are fixed ASAP. Is anyone keeping tabs on that or tried it yet?

I have tried it several times, it's function mostly seems to be as an IRC channel that allows sharing of pictures and .craft files you build ingame. Which, itself, is kind of impressive. However, for truly multiplayer purposes like docking together at a station or colonizing Laythe, it's useless.

Constantly being updated though, hopefully should be stable enough for our purposes in a week or two.

I found a server running on a 50mbps connection in Canada. Totally empty. Anyone wanna hop on with me? I already put a station in orbit without issue.
