A footnote written by Kierkegaard said:
'no more than out in the graveyard [Kierkegaarden] the multitude of dead form a society'

The [Kierkegaarden] was an editor's note. So is this correct - the name Kierkegaard derives from/means 'graveyard'?

That is bad-ass.

Yeah, but today a graveyard is spelled Kirkegård, while his name is spelled Søren Kierkegaard. Btw the double "a" is pronounced like "a" in "Raw"

It's a pretty common name over here...

Aren't many last names derived from an occupation? I wonder if his ascendents were grave-diggers or something.

Yeah probably something like that. Or he simply lived near a graveyard. It' might be because of the draft. Instead of calling people Ole Hansen (Ole son of Hans) and Oles´ son for Peter Olesen ex. the army would begin to call people by their hometown/area. So if Peter lived in Karlebo, he's name would be Peter Karlebo etc.

Is Kirkegård translated word by word ,,Kirchgarten", i.e. ,,church garden"?

No that's a German word. Kirkegård is Danish.

Kirke and Kirch is of course related, like kirke and and church. Gård however, is the Danish word, meaning both farm and yard.

A close second would be Chris Moneymaker, since he won the Poker Championship back in '03 for $2.5M. When I first saw him I thought they were using a nickname or something. :goodjob:

You are probably thinking of the Finnish president Pehr Svinhufvud.
On topic, I find Kirkegaard's philosophy much harder to digest than his name.

Very true. It says something that I came on here raving about his name and not about The Sickness Unto Death.

P.S.: Wolf Blitzer and Chris Moneymaker are definitely fake names.
