This topic is unusual because it is not an AAR, or a Story, or a Realpolitik. It is more of an essay, regarding the recent blossoming of all the AARs, stories and even a few Realpolitiks.

Against all odds, Civ4 S&T has survived even though the latest iteration of the Civ franchise has been out for 4 years now. Why is that? Not that I'm complaining, this is the forum where I most frequently post
Well, part of it is that Civ 5, to put it lightly, wasn't the best sequel. Others have written at length about that, so I will spare you my considerable anger on this subject. Civ 5, being a crappy game, completely destroyed the motivation of writers to write a story based on Civ 5. Thus, to make a story that wouldn't be torturous to get screenshots for, you needed to play Civ 4. And thus many people came here.
Another factor that draws readers here is the fact that the S&T forum for Civ 5 also contains Videos and LP threads. In fact, actual stories are few and far between on the S&T Forum for Civ 5. And so, many readers came to our little forum for actual stories.
Discuss this in replies. Am I right or wrong in my diagnosis of the fact that Civ 4 S&T is still thriving now?

I think it's thriving because of everything you can do with it. There are so many mods and ways to change and customize civ 4. I Love civ 5 to death but civ 4 will always be my favorite.

Speaking of mods, has anyone made a story using the pie's Ancient Europe mod yet?

I was thinking about it but decided ot to and did one with darkciv. I don't think so. Go for it.

I only one day looked up Civilization 4 stories on Google and came here, and I read the America thread and decided I liked it enough to come back to the forums and participate. Now you look where I am as the leader of secessionist South Africa, my own story, and trying to participate in as many stories that I am interested in as possible.

Plus, everyone is so friendly that it's hard not to like whatever they make.

That should be slogan. "Brutal as America but nice as Canada." :D

I personally like Civ 5 especially with the BNW additions and I;m really excited for Beyond Earth.

But I would have to say; Civ 4 S&T is much better. If i was to right a story it would hve to be civ4 mainly because of the screenshots problem.
Why is this the better forum? Simply put, this forum has Stories AND Tales! Civ 5 has some RealPolitik and a lot of VidLPs. Apart from Hemling (god his stories were good!) I havent seen a quality Civ 5 story that actually got going into say the Renaissance. Many start with potential but few go anywhere from what Ive seen. (feel free to link me up with an amazing Civ 5 story if you do find one)

A brief history:
My screenshots of my America game in the Post Your Empire thread on DoC turn into an IAAR
I make a new thread for the IAAR in the DoC thread, and two other IAAR's follow by Citis and Sanguivorant
The three threads are very popular as IAAR's were kind of a forgotten model
Demos Kratos is made; a group that promotes IAAR and alternate story-writing
Moderators move the threads to the dead S & T forum because reasons, and I expected nobody to pay attention to them then; indeed, participation greatly decreased
DoC people flooding S & T give hope to other non-DoC people who assume the forum as reviving
The wave of new participation leads to new stories

So you can thank Tomorrow's Dawn for reviving the thread. She lobbied to move the threads off the DoC forum.

I have heard IAAR so much! What does it mean??

Interactive After Action Report. It is nice that S&T has seen a revival, but I feel that the S&T of today is much different than the S&T a year ago, which was right before everyone fled S&T for NES and IOT.

Thank you but I still don't know what that is

What do you mean? You're the elder here.

Interactive After Action Report. People make stories and post about what they did in game, and other forum members interact with that somehow.

There were fewer IAARs back in the old days, and the people who posted had been posting on S&T for quite a long time (several years), so there was a lot of community and knowledge there already. Also, there was a lot more spam (the Awesome Wars). Some of these old S&Ters are on NES and IOT, and going there gives you a loose picture of what those people were like.

Okay so it's when the commenting people affect the story?

I came here with my fan fiction a while ago and I guess I came right in the nick of time because I had massive success, relatively speaking. Speaking of which I just realized that hasn't been updated in months.

So they were the Romans and we are the Italians?
