KoS5 - Mansa Musa and The Cottage Economy

Got the save, are we just playing to a reasonable checkpoint each time, or a certain # of turns?

Agreed on settling on horses, chariots are cheap and it has 2 3F tiles to cottage (though only after a border pop).

I'll probably try to get an escort to the settler before moving it out of our borders, there are still animals around and getting eaten by a wolf would suck  We need roads up to the horses first anyway.

I'll probably play tomorrow unless there's a consensus reached on tech choices early enough for me to start tonight. Right now it looks like finish writing then myst -> sailing? Or are we skipping sailing since we're not settling up by Ramesses?

Usually I like checkpoints to start off the game (otherwise it takes sooooo long) and then regular 10-turns sets.

Sailing>Myst. First build should be Chariot I think in new city. We can whip the monument via the Chariot.

Yeah, I wasn't sure on the direction for the roads, I could see the horses, but I think I was hoping to find copper south or west, which we did.

I wasn't sure where the team might want to settle, and I didn't want to build an uneeded road.
So I just cottaged the available squares so that we don't have to leave any workers in the cap.

Played to sailing + myst

Roaded up to the horses and settled on them, got a cottage up on the grassland just to work something of worth, started on a chariot there as suggested.

After Timbuktu grew to 3 pop I worked the cows for the extra hammer.

Borders expanded in the capital so I put up a cottage on a riverside grassland south of Djenne to work instead of the plain grassland one, then one worker went back to pre-chop a forest for lack of better options, just in case we're chopping in to the next settler. Other worker stayed near Djenne to put up one more cottage, roads may have been better but we haven't decided where to settle next :p

The western warrior killed a barb warrior and got to 2xp, didn't take a promo yet, there's also a wounded archer around there (it was combat1 with 2.1/3 health iirc). Eastern warrior also killed a barb warrior, both have been healing, but I woke them just so the next player doesn't pass over them.

Northern warrior is just watching Ramesses' progress for the time being, and spawnbusting a few tiles.

That's about it I think, no wonders/religions to report unless I completely missed them, check the dates yourselves if you'd like ;)

Edit: the worker near timbuktu is 1 turn from a chop finishing, so don't accidentally finish it ;)

Here's the explored land so far:

Team, sorry but I think I need to resign - just too busy with RL now, barely keeping up with my PBEM and SGOTM (notice I haven't posted anything since the opening settling discussion). Best of luck.

I presume we will change to settler the turn after next, as soon our cap hits size 4. The site for the next city isnt obvious, anywhere we put it will struggle to grow, I can't see a single usable 3f square not already in our BFC's, unless that is a FP further up our river. IIRC our variant does not allow us to work the Oasis.

So, it will need to be on an important resource, I still like the idea of IW before the next settler is popped.

Double post

Alright timmy827, take care.

@save
We can work unimproved tiles. Just no non-cottage improved tile in captured cities.

I guess we need to decide on a dotmap now that we've seem most of what's available to us. We need to grab health and happy resources. We can rely on HR for happiness so maybe a higher priority on health resources?

I'd OB with everyone that will now.

Tech: I'd go for Mathematics now. It's fast and will give us better chops.

For what it's worth I think settling the corn next would be a good idea.
+2 health, it is already part of your trade network, has lots of financial coast for early commerce and, most importantly IMO, can swap working cottages between your capital when either gets whipped.

RL has been eating up all my time recently, so I'm afraid I have to drop out. :( Sorry guys.

Ah well, take care Cull.

If any lurkers wants a spot, there's 2 of them open.

@Stochastic
A city there is good but not very pressing imo, better to start blocking land. We can get 10+ cities easily and grab a huge tech rate. The earlier we reach Democracy, the better.

I'd sign up to help, but one Emperor SG is a steep enough learning curve for me. I'll continue to cheer my fellow dwarf from the sidelines though.

Thanks Brian, you now get to see me make sloppy mistakes in 2 games.

I think we should 2pop the granary for max overflow into a settler for 1t, then regrow on a warrior (or chariot) build.

What's the plan with the chariot build? Can we put a hammer into monument right now, so we can whip it right away from size 2. Need the 2 3f tiles asap.

OK, played until Math.

in a mean time put 20 hammer chop to granary, so it finish before city grow to 5.

Partially build chariot why waiting for city to grow, started settler and put ful 30 hammers chop into settler.

Next turn it could be whipped.

I prepare 2 settling locations.

One 2 3 food ties, if we want city that can produce something and grow in reasonable time. I am chopping site, even little hammers helps and workers have nothing better to do.

second is cooper, I pre-road location.

Other notisable thin, Monoteism spread and I addopted to make nice to ramses and open borders with him.

Very good! :goodjob:

We should start thinking about settling resources I think. The 3-food tiles spot could go on the wine instead maybe?

Copper would give us some security in case we're met with barb spears.

Rusten is up and myself on deck.

If you do not want to settle on hill, then cancel chop before end of turn.

I just want a better city, settling on wine put city a bit to far away from other for my taste.
