Language translations for leader sayings

I can have a go at Peter's Russian though - is there anywhere I can get access to the sound files, or will I have to wait till the thing's properly out?
I've found the first look video, at any rate - can't make out much more behind the narrator's voice besides 'здравствуйте' and something like 'деловый', 'искал'...
I'm ready for that too, but nothing is available yet.

The last words in his greeting line is something-something "самое изысканное" (most exquisite).

Ah, well I don't want to jump the gun on anyone, though I'm keen to have a crack at it myself. :)

German and Russian are the languages I've done most translating in, my next best is probably Arabic though I'm not sure how well I'll be able to get on with Saladin. I've done some translations for Ramesses II and Arshia Kishk on this forum before, but I still ended up with some gaps.

Thanks, I had a feeling 'искал' wasn't right, but it's hard to hear out of context with the narrator's voice blaring over. :(

May nobody say that they didn't hear - blood will be spilled of those who turn against us. But if you are a true friend then we'll become friends.

Source is a native speaker of Ossetian from Vladikavkaz.

P. S. I think the orthography is not exactly right, I'll try to fix that later.
P.P.S Latinization is done according to the official Soviet script of 1920s.
P.P.P.S Sorry for the probable grammar mistakes in translation, I'm not a native English speaker. Corrections are most welcome.

Damn it took forever to dig out Peter's lines. But it took even longer to excavate this thread...

Greeting
Здравствуйте! Я - царь Пётр. Достойный правитель, подобный Вам, должен ценить всё самое изысканное. Любите ли Вы искусство, подобно мне?
Hello! I am Tsar Peter. A worthy ruler like you must appreciate all the most exquisite things. Do you like art as much as I do?

Agenda disapproval
Ваши люди жаждуют познания и красоты. Но Вы гнушаетесь науки и искусства. Отчего же?
Your people are thirsty for knowledge and beauty. Yet you abhor science and art. Why?

Declare War
Засим провозглашаю Вас врагом России, наших союзников, и Господа! Да помилует он Вашу душу.
Hence I declare you the enemy of Russia, our allies, and the Lord (God)! May he have mercy on your soul.

Some more lines
Harald Hardrada Attacked: This will make a great saga! The skalds will sing of my valor!
found this on civ wiki, I saw Filthyrobot declare war on Norway, but he skipped the cinematic...

I found it.

Interestingly this is the only Harald quote that's completely different from its given translation.

Þú ættir þig eldinum eiga stjórna er þú hefir kveikt. Ne-he-he-he... Nei! Hann er þér of mikill!
You suppose you are to control the fire you have started. No-ho-ho-ho... No! It is too great for you!

Catherine's agenda disapproval line is in Italian. Unfortunately I didn't write down what she said but if some of you manage to record or post her line I can help translating it (I'm a native speaker).

New translations added! We are missing the "real translations" of many lines, but hopefully people find the lines in-game or in this thread (helpfully provided by Guandao). :)

VA for Mvemba a Nzinga, Mamengi Alfredo Lombisi, is also credited on IMDB as "language coach: Lingala" for the movie "War Witch". So at least that answers the question which language he is speaking.

They used someone different for Montezuma, interesting. And an actual Italian woman for Catherine, quite nice. :)

Richard Tatum, Teddy's voice actor, is best known for his role as Agent 9 in Spyro the dragon games. :D

Nirvana Hisham appears to be someone from Cairo, Egypt, per Facebook.

That's due to low settings. Go to the options menu and change the quality of the animated leaders to Medium or High to see animations and hear voiced lines.

Thanks!
But I think you missed a headline for Cleopatra and some information from this post.

Odd. I could swear those were in. Anyhow, parent post updated to include that (there is one section of it remaining that is borked, but I added the borked text to the parent post anyway).

Could you delete three of Pericles' lines? The ones that repeat.

Also, add Mvemba a Nzinga's Agenda Approval line, and the translated lines for Peter the Great

Peter the Great, speaks Russian with some antiquated words.

Declare war from AI
Line: Засим провозглашаю Вас врагом России, наших союзников и Господа! Да помилует Он Вашу душу.

Transcription: Zasim provozglashayu Vas vragom Rossii, nashikh soyuznikov i Gospoda! Da pomiluyet On Vashu dushu

In-game text: I hereby proclaim you an enemy to Russia, our allies, and God, may he have mercy on your soul.

Note: The in-game translation is quite accurate, except for one minor detail - he says Gospod' (The Lord), not Bog (God). Also he uses an antiquated word zasim (whereupon, hence, hereby) here.

Declare war from human

Line: Ваша война тщетна. Россию победить невозможно! Кто с мечом к нам придёт — тот от меча и погибнет!

Transcription: Vasha voyna tshchetna. Rossiyu pobedit' nevozmozhno! Kto s mechom k nam pridot — tot ot mecha i pogibnet!

In-game text: Your war is hopeless. You have not learned from history. Conquering Russia is impossible. He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword!

Actual translation: Your war is futile. It's impossible to defeat Russia! Whoever will come to us with a sword, from a sword will perish!

Note: The last sentence is actually a famous phrase from a 1938 film by Sergei Eisenstein "Alexander Nevsky" and nowadays erroneously attributed to the historical figure of Alexander Nevsky.

Defeat

Line: Я сражён. Жизнь прожить - не поле перейти.

Transcription: Ya srazhon. Zhizn' prozhit' - ne pole pereyti.

In-game text: I am defeated. To live one’s life is not like crossing a field.

Note: The in-game translation is right. The second sentence is actually a Russian proverb. My dictionary give these English analogues: Life is not all clear sailing in calm water, There is a crook in the lot of everyone, Life is not a bed of roses, Life is not all beer and skittles, Life is not all cakes and ale. I hope you got the idea. :)

First meet
Line: Здравствуйте! Я - царь Пётр. Достойный правитель, подобный Вам, должен ценить всё самое изысканное. Любите ли Вы искусство, подобно мне?

Transcription: Zdravstvuyte! Ya - tsar' Potr. Dostoynyy pravitel', podobnyy Vam, dolzhen tsenit' vso samoye izyskannoye. Lyubite li Vy iskusstvo, podobno mne?

In-game text: Hello, I am Tsar Peter. So, a cultured leader such as yourself must enjoy the finer things in life. Are you fond of art as well?

Actual translation: Hello! I am Tsar Peter. A worthy ruler such as yourself must appreciate all the most exquisite things. Do you like art like I do?

Kudos

Line: Ваш народ достоин восхищения - искусство, наука... Чего ещё желать?

Transcription: Vash narod dostoin voskhishcheniya - iskusstvo, nauka... Chego yeshcho zhelat'?

In-game text: Yours is a society to emulate. Arts, sciences… what don’t you have?

Actual translation: Your people are worthy of admiration. Arts, sciences... What else can you wish for?

Pep talk
Line: Не забывайте кормить свой народ. Солдатский желудок пустыми обещаниями не насытить.

Transcription: Ne zabyvayte kormit' svoy narod. Soldatskiy zheludok pustymi obeshchaniyami ne nasytit'.

In-game text: Remember to feed your people. Soldiers' bellies are not satisfied with empty promises and hopes.

Translation: Don't forget to feed your people. You can't satiate a soldier's stomach with empty promises.

Warning
Line: Ваши люди жаждут познания и красоты, но Вы гнушаетесь науки и искусства. Отчего же?

Transcription: Vashi lyudi zhazhdut poznaniya i krasoty, no Vy gnushayetes' nauki i iskusstva. Otchego zhe?

In-game text: Your people are starved for knowledge and beauty, and yet you ignore science and art. Why?

Actual translation: Your people thirst for knowledge and beauty, but you shun science and art. Why so?

P.S. I personally didn't like the actor. He sounds too... uncertain and soft for such a personality that Peter was.

The "Pep talk" is his quote from the Civilopedia (the one that you can click to hear, which I discovered yesterday :D).

Interesting that Roosevelt gets 12 lines.

Parent post updated with Russian text. Many of the leaders were moved to the second post for spatial reasons, and the media YouTube references deleted (as surely someone will make a video with all the leader reactions).

Catherine de Medici, speaks modern Italian with some common sayings. Tried to be as literal as possible while still making sense.
Agenda disapproval ("Warning"):
  • Dovreste prestare attenzione a ciò che v'accade intorno. Credetemi, vi sono fin troppi giochini che stanno avendo luogo.
  • In-game text: You really should start paying attention to what's going on around you. There are games being played here on so many levels.
  • Real translation: You should start paying attention to what's happening around you. Believe me, there are way too many games being played.
Declare war from AI:
  • Ahahah, non siate sorpreso. Se non vi accorgeste di quanto stava per accadere, siete in vero un folle
  • In-game text: ?
  • Literal translation: Ahahah, don't be surprised. You'd truly be a foolish man if you didn't know what happened.
  • Real translation: Ahahah, don't be surprised. In truth, you'd be a fool if you didn't know what was going to happen.
