Harald Bluetooth - 21-3 = 18 Harald's animations are a bit too... animated. Every gesture is a bit too exaggerated, and he moves from one motion to the next a hair too quickly. Who actually does that in real life? It doesn't help that he looks like one of the vikings from a Pixar or Dreamworks movie.

Pocatello - 7+1 = 8 By comparison, Pocatello is like a old photograph that has come to life. The lone eagle provides just enough motion to a quiet sunrise/sunset over the buttes. He is reserved and thankfully not cartoonish, because I don't think that would go over very well.

Harald is mah bro, and unlike the guy who downvoted him, I love his energetic animations. Do you really expect a viking to be a boring slowpoke? They're all entertaining to look at. He's just as he should be. Not top 3, perhaps, but he deserves a 20 now. Also, the longboat looks cool.

Not to mention he doesn't look like an animated movie viking. Animated movie vikings look like vikings, unless when they have the horns, but they sometimes had horns for real, so I don't know what I'm talking about but I'm saying this just to confuse the reader. You're welcome.

-3 to Pocatello. Boring guy with a mediocre voice in a meh scenery with overrated music. The only big upside of this guy's leaderscreen, voice and other stuff is that you can call him Pikatello, which is funny. The rest are only mediocre positives. There's nothing very memorable about this guy.

MARIA I
Sure, it may not be the starry night sky that most CivFanatics like, and it may not be the big, grand leaderscreen that some other leaders have, but this leaderscreen is still one of the best. Everything in this leaderscreen just fits with everything else, from the colours, to the aesthetic, the music, the composition, the layers - everything just comes together so beautifully to create a delightfully charming leaderscreen which perfectly represents the Portugal Civ. It's not the shiniest Civ, nor is it the grandest, most overpowered, but all of it's elements just come together so smoothly, so seamlessly, and it creates a delightful Civ to play as. Truly, this is a leaderscreen which accurately represents the Civ it is attached to.

POCATELLO
While this leaderscreen really does bring quite a bit of charm and personality to the table, it does have a few fatal flaws. The first of this is just how much rock-brown there is on the screen. The second is, though intentional, just how boring Pocatello is. Whether he's declaring trading, declaring friendship, or declaring war, Pocatello always seems to have a plain, brooding, neutral face. It's cohesiveness was enough to save it in the earlier rounds, but now that it's the worst of the best round it really is a liability.

I'm going to pray one of the other saviors of Pocatello are online this morning so I can jump on an upvote and get him back to safe territory. Or are we giving up on him?

As a counter-point to an earlier argument against him: the simplicity of his screen (or lack of grandeur as the poster seemed to suggest) belies the greatness of the person and the greatness of the guiding philosophy: "I do not speak your language and you don't speak mine. But I don't need to walk in your footsteps if I see the footprint you left behind." (Sorry if I butchered: it's from memory.)

There is something so compelling to me about Shoshone/Pocatello in this game.

SAVE POCATELLO.

Ehh, but this sort of reasoning could be used to defend any possible leaderscreen? Oda's Windows XP screen simplicity (or lack of grandeur) belies the greatness of the person and the greatness of the guiding philosophy : put something some japanese guy said.

Down with the baldring (a combination of balding and boring) guy, I say.

Yeah let's save Pocatello, he really doesn't deserve to go this soon. I actually love his voice and his screen is really peaceful and nice to see appear. Too bad he steals all the land all the time :(.

Kamehameha's screen is one of the weakest left. The background is ok, but the dude looks wrong. I don't know what it is, but the way he moves is a bit weird, and apparently he's not supposed to be white, so there.

I like the costuming on Sejong, but it's another (yawn) fairly standard throne room screen. Maria Theresa's is simpler, but her screen makes me hate her - and anything that elicits that much emotion must be a well-designed leaderscreen. So -3 to Sejong.

Pocatello - the modest leader of a people of modest impact seems perfectly suited to this leaderscreen. And the colours are beautiful here. SAVE POCATELLO.

HATERZ PLZ READ: Look all over this list and ask yourself - do you really want to eliminate a screen this unique so early? Pocatello won't last much longer, but is it really worse than Sejong? Maria Theresa?

I respectfully disagree - Japan is one of the "great" cultures of the world. The strength of the simplicity in Pocatello's screen is the relative modesty of the Shoshone impact and niche in the game.

Also - beautiful colours.

Also - EAGLE.

Yes, it is much worse. At least than Maria Theresa. She has the right appearance, a fittingly arrogant behaviour, cool-sounding accent, the castle looks good, and it has a nice view on the mountains with some birds flying around.

And Sejong at least has a nice song to greet people with. His throne room is one of the most unique ones, and sometimes his gestures are funny. At least he's memorable and is in no way bland.

If you said Kamehameha, yeah, I'd agree. They're about on the same level, but I think Pikachu's blandness makes him a better, more deserving target.

Montezuma - A vanilla leader screen actually turned out the best, who would've though? Everything from his unique lines and the crowd cheering him on is simply perfect. Shimicacan!

Dido - Not a lot of bad ones left, but Dido loses points because I always felt her animation wasn't very good. The night environment is nice but a little bland.

SAVE POCATELLO.
SAVE BYZANTIUM

Honestly, Pocatello's screen IS getting overrated now. For me there are worse screens in the list, but I wouldn't expect Pocatello to get into top 10.

Harun al-Rashid - 22
Ashurbanipal - 28
Maria Theresa - 13 I still think her screen has the best camera work, it's different from the simple zoom-in and zoom-out of other screens.

Heck no. I wouldn't expect him to crack top 10 - I just don't think he and Kamehameha should be out yet - such unique screens deserve a longer run, in my opinion.

Harun al-Rashid - 22-3=19, nice palace garden, Harun, but your voice acting is mediocre, Ramesses had the better Arabic speaking voice actor and he's eliminated, plus your animation is dull with only arm movements

Theodora: the leader's pretty good-looking, and with the magnificent Hagia Sophia outside the palace, the fancy railings, pillars and flowers, the scene is really pleasant.

Askia: I'm pretty surprised that he is still up here. The burning city just looks sick.

I take the honour to kill off Pocatello sorry bud you do have good leaderscreen but the rest just come ahead.

Theodora and the Hagia Sophia both have wonderful architecture.

I need a moment to grieve. And my all-time favorite - Kamehemeha - looks like the next head to roll. Why do my tastes diverge so widely from the rest of you? Does no one else like to see the environs of the leaders's nations?

Sejong is one of the better "throne room" screens, but - to me - it's just one more example of too much of the same-old same-old. I don't want to see 47 variations of offices and rooms. I want to see their worlds...

...which is why Kamehameha gets my upvote. A snapsnot of the place he ruled that gives me a strong sense of Hawaii/Polynesia. Great voice acting as well. I love encountering this guy. Except when he magically settles the spots I want.
