Genghis -3: Of all the leaders that should be standing in front of a burning city, it should be Genghis. This one is fine but all the bad one's are gone.

Monty +1: One more for Monty after a member pointed out that the skulls behind him were actually a real Aztec artifact (tzompantli).

Attila's leaderscreen is pure barbarian awesomeness. Steel and leather everywhere. If anything is missing it's epic heavy metal music.

Ahmad's leaderscreen is beautiful and has some neat touches like crescent moon. However Ahmad himself looks somewhat unnatural. Chaotic peace music only enhances this feeling.

+1 to Askia. He has an amazing voice, his leaderscreen looks awesomely detailed and interesting, his expressions are nice. He deserves to have 20 or more at this point.

-3 to Ahmad. Kind of boring, you know. And his voice sounds, I don't know, weird? Is this language supposed to be spoken so fast?

It`s sad people have eliminated Genghis Khan thinking that he should stand in front of a burning city... don't confuse him with Attila. The only thing that makes his current screen lackluster is lack of motion - having a herd of horses running on the background would have been perfect.

Er it's not any faster than how Americans speak English...
As an Arabic speaker, I understood him just fine.

In fact, they used formal Arabic which no one really speaks. Moroccan sounds much different.

Ziad: do you know of any good reason for them to have used Formal Arabic instead of Moroccan (like, historically?)

And my understanding, which might be wrong, is that the rapidity of speech is sort of a dialectical distinguisher with Arabic (e.g. that Arabic in Saudi Arabia is spoken much more quickly than in, say, Sudan, and that's understood to be an aspect of the specific dialect.) I might be very wrong, there, though.

Attila - not bad, but none of the ones left are bad. Just weird to see a nomadic leader in a throne room, and the angle, feeling like almost looking down on him, isn't as threatening as it should be. Gone now.

Giving another upvote for Gajah Mada, because it is unique and you can almost feel like you're there in the warmth of the morning. Just gorgeously done.

I must have opposite disease. The ones I like best are now getting hit with multiple downvotes. Kamehameha has to go??? Pocatello's "wasteland"? As opposed to all the leaders who stand around in buildings?

Gah. Anyways, I can't upvote Askia AND Kamehameha AND Pocatello, and I don't seem to have any Pocatello allies, so I'm giving him up unless other help me out. Askia has picked up a few friends, so I don't feel like he needs my vote today.

So...

Kamehameha +1 : Music, beach, amazing costume, I love Hawaiian phonology too. A perfect leaderscreen for him, and (like Harold's, Pocatello's, and Askia's) really unique.

Theodora -3 : People downvote my favorites for reasons I can't begin to understand while upvoting Theodora because b00bs. *sigh* This thread will be the end of me.

I'll join you on this crusade! SAVE POCATELLO! I mean, wasteland? seriously?

I'm downvoting Isabel. Lo siento, pero nunca me han gustado los arbustos; me parecen extraños... (the bushes are weird).

He doesn't actually speak 100% formal Arabic like Ramesses and Harun.
There are some inflections added here and there. Also there are some suffixes like "-esh" added to some words. It's not quite Arabic and not quite curent Moroccan. I would not be able to understand a Moroccan speaker at all, as a Lebanese person.
Historically, this could be attributed to his Muslim faith. It would make sense that a ruling figure would speak a more "proper" form of the common language.

Also yes, rapidity of speech does vary between regions. North Africans tend to speak the fastest (Tunisians and Moroccans), while the Levantine countries tend to speak the slowest (Lebanon, Syria, Jordan etc..)

It's not what distinguishes the "dialects" though. Speech patterns are wildly different, and many words are not even shared. One would argue that they could be considered different languages, if not for the Islamic influence.

MARIA I
Sure, it may not be the starry night sky that most CivFanatics like, and it may not be the big, grand leaderscreen that some other leaders have, but this leaderscreen is still one of the best. Everything in this leaderscreen just fits with everything else, from the colours, to the aesthetic, the music, the composition, the layers - everything just comes together so beautifully to create a delightfully charming leaderscreen which perfectly represents the Portugal Civ. It's not the shiniest Civ, nor is it the grandest, most overpowered, but all of it's elements just come together so smoothly, so seamlessly, and it creates a delightful Civ to play as. Truly, this is a leaderscreen which accurately represents the Civ it is attached to.

Now, here is the hard part, because all of the Leaders left on this screen, for the most part, either have good, really good, or great leader screens. There really aren't any bad leaderscreens left, so for the duration of this thread I'll be deciding on a basis of which is the worst of the best.

POCATELLO
While this leaderscreen really does bring quite a bit of charm and personality to the table, it does have a few fatal flaws. The first of this is just how much rock-brown there is on the screen. The second is, though intentional, just how boring Pocatello is. Whether he's declaring trading, declaring friendship, or declaring war, Pocatello always seems to have a plain, brooding, neutral face. It's cohesiveness was enough to save it int he earlier rounds, but now that it's the worst of the best round it really is a liability.

Im sticking for Pocatello, while some claim his animation as unisnpired I see it as very well done subtle animation, its not easy to pull off. And everything works to set a tone in this leaderscreen.

Isabella, poor Isabella, we are talking abut one badass queen in real life, the model is nice, background and music too, but as soon as she starts to speak the illusion is instantly destroyed, she sounds like a whinny teenager bored out of her mind, you can almost picture the voice actress reading her lines and getting out of the recording boot, with such bland voice to work from, its no surprise the animators couldnt do much with her.

Ol' Gustav may look like the wrong king, but at least he isn't a Caucasian guy in a stupid hat pretending to be a Hawaiian.
I`ll just leave the pic here. Unless you were complaining about the guy's skin being not dark enough. But even then, did you expect Kamehameha to be as dark as Shaka?
