Leaderscreen Elimination Thread

Aww. fuzzatron. I want to kill him while others are crying about that too :(
That's how the game works. Despite how good you think it is.

@truenarnian You can have your own taste and reason behind it, Of course. But do you have to question others who have different taste?

Harun al-Rashid -19
Ashurbanipal - 29 - 3= 26: Maybe it's because I don't like Assyria in general, but there are several screens which are better(Kamehameha, Dido, Maria Theresa, Harald Bluetooth). Sorry Ashurbanipal

Down with Kamehameha. He's too bright, too tooney in his animations, he just feels like the odd one out in all aspects. EVERY other leader commands some form of respect. He doesn't.
Up with William. His leaderscreen just shows wisdom and warmth, it's perfect.

Maria Theresa - 13
Montezuma - 31
Theodora - 25
Dido - 17 (I'd like to have a glass of wine with her sitting next to that column and looking at the starry sky. This leaderscreen, along with the music, communicates mystery and romance, befitting the mythical queen and her lengendary kingdom)

Correcting the scores. Askia's on 11.

Harun al-Rashid -16- I dislike leaders with little to no movement at all. Most other leaders in this list at least walk around a bit.

Sejong - ELIMINATED
The Palace and his royal suit are pretty accurate, but that awkward voice acting provokes laugh from any Korean speaker. In fact, that's how I got to know Civilization in the first place.

Pachacuti - 29
He stands out with his creative dialogue amongst the other leaders. "You declare war on me? You can't, because I declare war on you first!" He wasn't a nice person in real life, and I like how this game gives colors (in this case, slightly childlike) to each leader rather than presenting all of them as boring and strict leaders.

Harun al-Rashid -16 + 1 = 17 - No killy Harun! Best Vanilla screen.

Pachacuti - 29 - 3 = 26 - The heck did he get so highly ranked? It's a good leaderscreen (pretty sure the city is Machu Pichu, actually; Pachacuti was probably the ruler who commissioned its construction) but it's certainly not deserving of almost 30 points.

-3 to Blandehameha. He's really been here far too long. I just don't like his screen. It's a simple beach with an old boat. No cool architecture of any sort (For Obvious Reasons), nothing badass or interesting.
I'm surprised Isabella's gone when this guy is in, but yeah - the Voice Actor is just reading her lines without any sort of emotion. While it could've been intended (blahblah dressed as kinda-nun, religious, all that stuff, should be quiet and avoid emotion), it wasn't a good decision.

+1 to Askia. He looks cool, his animations are nice, and he has a burning city behind him. Also, he has a fitting voice. While the background doesn't really fit (this city is pretty much the only thing he ever conquered), it deserves to stay for a bit longer because of badass factor. He really shouldn't be killed off yet, and so I push him a bit in the right direction - towards safety.

Kamehameha... It is hard to describe, but my eyes always said me that there is too much simplicity here" and "ugly textures" :p

Montezuma is probably the winner of this thread, despite all his mad attacks and betrayals he is so awesome, climatic, and terrifying and hilarious at the same time, that I love to see him even as my neighbour
Man, this leaderscene is insane as his mind ;)

-3 Austria - We're getting down to the point where we have to axe some good leaderscreens. Nothing against it, just the worst of the rest IMO

+1 Denmark - Love that he's on a ship. Very atmospheric and cool. If we are allowed to take into account sounds, then his leaderscreen is even better (creaking boat swaying slowly back and forth over the water)

MARIA I
Sure, it may not be the starry night sky that most CivFanatics like, and it may not be the big, grand leaderscreen that some other leaders have, but this leaderscreen is still one of the best. Everything in this leaderscreen just fits with everything else, from the colours, to the aesthetic, the music, the composition, the layers - everything just comes together so beautifully to create a delightfully charming leaderscreen which perfectly represents the Portugal Civ. It's not the shiniest Civ, nor is it the grandest, most overpowered, but all of it's elements just come together so smoothly, so seamlessly, and it creates a delightful Civ to play as. Truly, this is a leaderscreen which accurately represents the Civ it is attached to.

MONTEZUMA
I never got the love for this leaderscreen. Sure, it's not bad, it's above average, but it's not that great. When I saw Monty the first time, flailing about like crazy, talking even crazier, it gave me a chuckle. But after seeing it over and over again, it really just got annoying. It's over-exaggerated to the point of being just plain silly. The dark lighting also subtracts somewhat from the experience, but not too much. Some people like the raving crowd in the background, but with how loud it is it can really be hard to hear Monty's theme music. My biggest complaint would have to be that the background is just completely bland; couldn't have had some more colours in there? It's a good screen, just not good enough when compared to some of the other leader's screens.

William, the pants and the shoes, do I need to say anything?
The background is well done too, the light especially is very remniscent to those used by the 16th century dutch painters, as is the room.
Voice is ok, to a native he sounds somewhat cheesy, a bit like a Shakesperean actor in our language, and he lacks that german twang, considering he grew up in Dillenburg (Germany) and dutch was only one of the many languages he learned from his time at the Kaizers court, and ofcourse most royal matters where conducted in French or Latin at that time.

Shaka, never did much for me, it all looks so rediculously uncivilized compared to his in game strength, which is kind of silly anyway as a powerful warmonger should probably be one that is marked by his victories, while the main thing everyone remembers about the Zulu is them getting destroyed by the Brits.
Yes, valiantly, but people don't really remember the leaders who valiantly fought but where defeated by Mongols with better military technology either, Shaka just had the (mis)fortune of being defeated by a empire that was obsessed with documenting everything and romantisizing their military accomplishments.
Can't comment on his musics as I usually play with music off while watching a show or listening to a podcast, but his leader screen isn't that intimidating for possibly the strongest warmonger in the game. (just look at Monty, that's how you do a warmonger)

A small heads-up: Kamehameha missed 1 point from seanflokstra7's up-vote. It doesn't save the big guy, but please be careful in future, this is happening way too often in this thread. In particular, when you post your vote please check for the ninja-posts above you. If someone voted at the same time as you but his message showed up earlier, edit the points on your list accordingly.

William - 26 - Gustav's nice personality couldn't save him from the art mistake of Firaxis. Now I have to vote for the only person on this list who is close to him personality-wise.
Haile Selassie - 15 - mostly due to his voice. I am fine with his passiveness in peaceful screens, but his declaration of war and reaction to DoW sound silly to me. It's like he wants to sound angry, but his voice is too quiet and high-pitched for that.

I like Maria's screen, but it's part of the bottom 5 or so within those left and it really shouldn't be this high at this point.

Who care that the Zulus and Shaka aren't actually major historical figures ? They're a big part of Civ's history, I certainly remember Shaka from Civ I, and this leaderscreen is awesome. Well the screen is good, but mostly the voice acting is always menacing and appropriate for such a scary warmonger.

Considering how many points he has, maybe some will not agree, but...I dont like Monty's leaderscreen. There's some really cool ideas there, specially the crowd and the Tzompantli (skull rack) behind him, BUT, the dude looks like a cartoon of an Aztec emperor, he looks more like a Mexico city down town folkloric dancer than an emperor, it would be like dressing Enrico in carnival clothing and mask, I just cant get pass it, however I can understand why people like it.

Now that I mentioned Enrico, I really like his leaderscreen, calm, nice music and ambient, and, Enrico walks a fine line between elegant, and creepy, I would love to finally see a Monty in Civ that felt as historicaly accurate as Enrico does in CiV.
