Leave Them Without Life - A Dwarf Fortress Community Fortress

Update IV: Tower of Anusbeasts

The second year was passing by quickly and all our little workers chugged along and and continued to build the mightiness of our home in the dirt. Charles_Li had been doing an exceptional job as leader and with his plans for a tower above our entrance quickly underway and making great advances, it was only a matter of time before we could build him a nice, tower situated office and chambers. The trade floor, right above the ground level, is the location of the trade depot, some small stockpiles and the current location where Ninja_Dude holds his guard duties.

Directly above that is the third floor, known as the lower housing deck of many to come. It will be able to hold six dwarfs of the higher class. All above ground bedrooms and other rooms will be for the wealthier of our citizens while the poorer ones live in the dirt.

Around the summer we had a sighting of another caravan coming across the mountains. One from the humans, we had plenty of crafts to trade, and we got plenty of leather, cloth and some food from them. Charles_Li set orders for human drink, plants and meats to come next year along with seeds for an outdoor farm that some of the growers wish to start.

If someone wants a legendary woodcrafter who primarily hunts, you can claim him. He made a wood earring artifact.

We also have had a death of one of our peasent hunters. Mauled by a cougar, I used one of the small rooms in the workshop area as his burial place as it had not been made into an office yet and I figured he wasn't worth starting the main catacombs over.

I demand that we eventually go and do an act of revenge and kill a cougar. Can we bury animals? Because if we could we should bury the cougar either outside the entrance of uour fortress, or right next to where that one guy is burried.

Sadly we cannot bury animals that are not our own pets. We can try to capture the cougar, tame him and chain him up in our fortress.

Do that then. But only when we're fully equiped to face a cougar. I'm guessing that right now we aren't really going to be able to afford some of our dwarves dieing for the purpose of capturing a cougar.

I also think instead of keeping him in the fortress, we use him to attack goblins and anything else that tries to attack us.

Who wants to be sheriff? You get a big room in the tower.

Full Map for Late Autumn Second Year

For the four big cross hubs I would like to know what you want done with them. I am stumped as to what they could be used for besides making real housing or something. How would you like to expand them? Drawings on a grid in paint would come in handy.

that sounds like fun... Ill be sheriff if i can.

You mean the things on the lower levels? I don't know that much about the game but they look like cool workshops or a Hero's Hall. Or a treasure room...

Update V: Troubles and Fortune

With little mining to be done I have had the time to wander the halls freely, not that being married to the leader of the fortress has anything to do with the amounts of free time available. With nothing to do, I found myself in the second floor of the tower, tending to the wounds of our sheriff, Churchill, whom has been attacked by a pack of wolves half a year previous. His injuries are bad, chunks are missing from his right arm and his neck is badly bruised. He hasn't been awake for more than a few seconds in a month. We all worry for his health.

Leaving him to rest in a bed, which is no longer his, as his sheriffs quarters have been completed. No one bothers to move him.

More word came later in spring of the massive amounts of wolves in the region, they killed another hunter, leaving our population at forty-three.

I went and spoke with head mechanic Scamp, to see if he would setup a couple cage traps in the wilderness to capture some of these demonic wolves. He agreed and we began constructing some wooden cages and stone mechanism for him to do his dirty work.

We set out in the night, with a party of five, including myself, scamp, two recent migrants as work mules and Ninja_Dude with his crossbow to protect us. We never realized how terrifying the forest in our valley is until that night, surrounded by the glowing eyes of several dozen hungry wolves.

We were attacked, just as Scamp finished setting up the traps and were forced into a run for safety back to the fortress. Their horrible howls echoed against our walls. We all prayed to our various gods and celebrated our risky endeavor with a feast of donkey meat and ale.

The wolves still hold their ground around our walls, but we will soon be training a more formidable military to deal with them.

As we feasted, our head jeweler came in the main hall exhausted and happy. He shouted his triumph to us all, he had finally begun cutting gems after over a year at the fortress. Over sixteen gleaming jewels he had cut and polished, in his new little workshop nook. Charles_Li made a toast.

"We all will be filthy rich and mighty powerful, nothing bad will ever happen to our new home!"

Update V.1

We had a fella go insane for not having some various pieces of cloth or something. He tried to kill one of our little ones so we quickly forced a few new immigrants into the military to take him down.
