Leslie Nielsen dies at 84...

You guys should try to catch some of his far earlier stuff. He was great as a dramatic actor as well. Truly versatile. R.I.P. Mr. Nielson, I hope you find the pearly gates more inviting than Altair IV!
Forbidden Planet?

Man this is awful news, he was supposed to go to the London Expo last year or the year before and I was totally gonna go until he pulled out.

Forbidden Planet was the inspiration for Star Trek.

Seconded! His roles in Airplane and the Naked Gun movies are already funny, but if you watch his early dramatic roles back in the late 50s, it's so much clearer that the deadpan comedy style he used later in his career was a total spoof of his earlier serious roles.

Sad to hear he passed. RIP, Mr. Nielsen. You are already missed. :(

"A hospital? What is it?"
"It's a big building with patients but that's not important right now"

sad news

Forbidden Planet?

I like the reference. One of my favorite movies. Too many only know of him as a comic actor. He was versatile and great. He will be missed.

I know you like Shakespeare. I believe Forbidden Planet was based on the Tempest?

Great movie, and far ahead of its time.

Forbidden Planet was actually modeled after the Shakespeare play The Tempest to a great extent.

Rumack: Captain, how soon can you land?
Captain Oveur: I can't tell.
Rumack: You can tell me. I'm a doctor.
Captain Oveur: No. I mean I'm just not sure.
Rumack: Well, can't you take a guess?
Captain Oveur: Well, not for another two hours.
Rumack: You can't take a guess for another two hours?

Ted Striker: I flew single engine fighters in the Air Force, but this plane has four engines. It's an entirely different kind of flying altogether.
Rumack, Randy: [together] It's an entirely different kind of flying.

Thae there is:

I just want to tell you both good luck. We're all counting on you.
