You want to maximize the positive global effects of your activity.

What kind of scenarios are possible given the present state of art?

Can you list scenarios in order of whatever?

(You know what? I haven't a clue what I'm on about. I shall have to revise this as stuff occurs to me - or as someone picks up on, better than I, what I mean.)

I've got an idea at the tip of my fingertips.

How about genetically modified bread-fruit trees that grow everywhere and bear fruit (bread) all year round?

Oh no! Can't have that. Agri-business might not approve.

Borachio, are you borracho or something?

Agra-business uses GMO crops now. One use is to make the crop immune to herbicides. That means they can spray however much weed-killer they want and crop grows better for it. The downside is that is very petroleum dependent. Monoculture crops are also bad for the rest of the environment and prone to cause more problems when things go bad. GMO also means that the seeds are patented and results in bad economics for small farmers. Instead of using part of their harvest for replanting next year, they have to keep buying more seed.

If I were a farmer I would research and implement environmentally sustainable farming practices that were not dependent on oil or GMO seeds.
