Light In The East: Civs Of The Orient(And Beyond)

My idea was it spawning a GG when it reaches level 5. But that is apparently not possible.

If I'm understanding right, then it should definitely be possible. Firaxis added a UnitPromoted event that you can hook into whenever to detect when a unit changes level, and upon level 5, just spawn a GG. Sort of similiar to my Sardinian-Piedmontese Garibaldi, if you need some examples.

Could there be a promotion that either made it become a GG or spawn a GG? I'm not sure how to do it, but surely it could be created via lua (i.e. by people who know lua way better than I)?

Just give it the Great General promotion upon level 5.

Maybe it grants a +10% combat bonus while attacking to adjacent units and makes them earn Great Generals faster...

If the unit is garrisoned in a city, maybe we could increase unit production, or give extra xp to units born in the city, or maybe finish resistance and get a free courthouse if the Lapattu captures a city( a promo that will be kept).

I was trying to find some reference to Akkad in the Osprey books I have; in the "Ancient Armies of the Middle East," it infers that most of Sargon's army were archers and that the fact at least some of them had the composite bow probably explains how they could defeat the Sumerians, who relied on javelins and hand-to-hand combat.

I'm not saying, of course, that you must change the laputtu to this, but it's likely an archer would be more historically accurate.

Would clash a little bit with the Babylonian Bowman but it could also be potentially fun since a part of the akkadian UA is a nod to the Babylonian civ (Bronze working gives a Great General/Writing gives a Great Scientist).

edit: fixed the great person name :crazyeye:

Hm... maybe when it's stationed in the city the city bombardment itself is able to generate GG points at an accelerated rate...

The first part of the UA would go to waste then, wouldn't it? Besides that spawning GGs is more flexible, as you can use it to create a Citadel if you want.

But it would increase the cost of spawning GGs.
