Does everyone know that Lighthouse also increases the speed of all naval units by 1, in addition to the trireme benefit?

This may seen like a stupid question, but I only found out about it recently while watching the Lighthouse Wonder movie!

I never bother to read the text in wonder movies in the past...

Yup, knew about the extra speed!

Still reckon it's not worth building - becomes obsolete too quickly

. And in SP navies are vastly overated. The AI civs are normally quivering piles of jelly long before they can build navies of any significant threat.

MP may be different, but I haven't played.

But perhaps the moral of the story is that the movies are beneficial and should be left turned on.................Naaahhh!!!

Leave the movies on in SP only, and it's obvious you're misinformed on what is "worthwhile".

That's almost correct. Actually the speed bonus applies only to non-trireme ships. Another benefit is that all new ships you produce receive veteran status.

The lighthouse is worth it if:
1. you are going to use alot of caravels...
2. you plan not to head for magnetism
3. you are stuck on a small continent and you can´t get to anywhere else without risking sinkage!

I will rarely build the wonder, but understand its value to the person that holds it...rapid long-range expansion and trade-war-diplomacy can be facilitated.

But generally there is more pressing demands on the empire´s resources.

Wow!

I didn't know!

But I still find lightouse useless in most maps. Especially custom maps...

I usually skip it for for magellans and get 8 move destroyers. <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif" border=0>

hehe.... I was just trying to make newbies feel better about themselves.

Another new thing I learned only a few months ago is that flagged cities mean the cities have garrison units (or unflagged cities means the cities are empty). I learned that while playing a MP Game with Hakan. Hakan said it's explained in the manual.

LOL! you are lame...strange eyesOFnight hasn´t come to laugh!

Though your ladder ranking ain´t bad considering your lack of knowledge about the game Thunderfalls...there is always someone worse than yourself.

folks, I never say I am the best! I am good in Civ2, just couldn't get a few simple facts straight.

And why would anyone care what Eyes think?

C'Mon... how many people ever read the manual until they have played the game... I'd guess not 5% of people look over a manual unless they had been told by friends that the game was complicated as ****... (One other thing, Is there a swearing ban here????) (If so, someone let me know, I'm a little free with my profanities) Most people would boom, install the game and then try it out, thenif not too complicated then people wil continue using it and get there own techniques for it... Then if they ever did need to clarify something or find something out, it will only be one little thing and afterwards that will be it.. It's mainly only after someone has mastered the game. (Or in my case, thought as such...)
I can't think of any particular instances but mainly stuff to do with governements and revolts etc... was what I learned a lot about when I read the manual...

Morgasshk.

I couldn't agree more. I know I was an install it and play kinda person when I started the game.

I know for me I just kinda expect more from Thunderfall and certain others here. I mean never knowing that the lighthouse adds one movement to other types of ships... and after playing how many games...? I would think that sometime before that it would have come up.

It's just like finding out there is no Santa or tooth fairy.

Not that this is anything against you Thunder, it was just a shock to learn that maybe everybody who has been playing for awhile still have stuff to learn about the game. (I just didn't think it was stuff that basic)
biggrin.gif

For myself I am just starting to play with frieght and covering the map with cities. I never focused on winning big, but have to learn how real fast to have a shot with the GOTMer's.

Yep, knew abnout it, but the Lighthouse has never been my top priority and it isn't going to be my top priority.

Over a multi decade gamming carreer, I ALWAYS read and study the rules/manual first. One of my gamings mottos is "Never be a rookie".
Another is "Vitorious through better dice". Through emphasising some random/diceevents and diverting attetion away from others and other psychological manipulation, I have the majority of the people I play with believing that I get better dice rolls than anyone else.
