Viskas, the holy city of Mantea and capital of Yathai is situated on the banks of a small circular bay. The archipelago is volcanic, and the Bay of Viskas is indeed a proof of this, as it is the remains of a long ago eruption. Now the activity is reduced, and eruptions are a rarity. Still, the islands benefit of the geothermal heat through numerous hot springs, as well as temperate waters granting a wealth of marine life.
Viskas itself is not a large city, at least not if you count heads. The city can be divided in three main regions: the Town, the Anchor and the Citadel. The Town is where residences and the industries are located, as well as being the bulk of the city. The Anchor is a crescent-shaped island two hundred or so feet out in the bay. Here the piers and shipyards are located, along with warehouses for merchants loading on and off cargo. A broad causeway connects the Anchor with the mainland.
Seen above, an aerial view of the second last eruption, about 16000 years ago. The island in the bay has collapsed due to a much more recent eruption, forming a crescent that is now the Anchor. The lessened geothermal activity has led to the island sinking a little, making the mouth of the bay slightly larger than shown here. The Citadel is located around the center right while the Town lies sheltered along the Inner Bay.
The Citadel is the temple complex of Viskas. It is located on and around a forested hill overlooking the city. The walled compound is mostly covered by dense forest, with a few temples jutting high above the treetops, dominating the scene.
Seen above, the stone walls encircling the Citadel, the Tomb of the Lasim where Lasi and his descendants are buried, and the twin temples of Shi and Shu.
