LINESII- Into the Darkness- Part III

Hey, I'm working.

Life grows more busy, but the update chugs on. I'm progressing.

I'm considering making a change in rules to make orders much simpler. I like weaving a story from the ideas of players, not trudging through massive heaps of detail.

Well, 1 PM orders are a good start...but you could always have a DNES-like system where nation statistics aren't directly tied to orders, but merely influenced by them.

For example, you rarely have a king sitting in his palace saying, "Recruit 5,000 swordsmen...and hmm, let's say 2,500 archers." He just says, "expand the military, focusing on swordsmen and archers," and his advisors (the mod) determine what's feasible without overcomplicating things.

Yeah, stuff like that.

Maybe I'll give an example... frankly, updating is x10 more fun when I have some artistic freedom.

I like Daft's system, since orders from the top are more like general directives. Also, "spending points" are worth more, and a nation can only focus itself in one major (and a couple minor) directions. It doesn't prevent people from micromanaging, but it helps.

I was under the impression that the bulk of orders were war strategies? I can't see how Daft's system is going to simplify this, since Generals do tend to have concrete plans (or at least successful ones) as for battle orders as well. At least, it will be hard to prevent players from sending detailed orders in times of war. That said, such a NES where the players have only limited control over the actual affairs would be interesting. In the end, though, I presume most NESers would prefer to have a firmer grasp around their nation than not. Not to sound pessimistic about the idea, but still.

just cut back on the detail in the updates

what percent done?

(and please don't change the order style; micromanaging is fun)

Not having had any experience with the new ideas being proposed, I can't say I have a concrete opinion either way. However, it does seem like it would be more "ruler-y" and less "game-y" to be able to issue only vaguer objectives as per allotment of resources. I like that.

MODs make the rules, MODs make the rules.

I like the more vague order rules idea, if only because my orders are probably one of the shortest ever in the game, and, well, Iggy says my orders are a breath of fresh air :P So I would be at an advantage :D

how short are you orders?

mines are too XD

Edit: actually... maybe 3-5 sentences long ...

OOC: Indeed. The Final End of the Valin Race is a fitting conclusion to an IT. Wouldn't you agree thlayli?

Swiss? Wubba? Is it time yet? ;)

Alex, you've been particularly anti-Valin lately. Why ever could that be? :p

OOC: I am so anti-Valin that I will fight to preserve the Valin People so I can keep on being anti-Valin :p

Decloak: Begs the question as to which is which... ;)

You know, its funny how the whole world is anti-Valin except for an oddball :).
