I was planning to play the set, maybe today, but since the discussion a little bit died I am not sure we are sold on the plan.

If people feel that strongly they should post their opposition and preferred alternative. If they're not posting they're not complaining (or not interested) so carry on.

Well my view has shifted slightly, but still somehow concerningly the same as lymond's!

I'm OK to abuse Fishy as a Slavery / Draft centre even though it has the hallmarks of a good :gp:-Farm. So, at some point Globe Theatre there.

Consequently, in light of The Great Library in Berlin, the National Epic works for me. In an another reality we could have put both in at Fishy, but Berlin makes sense as a good alternative.

We still need to get one city to 20,000:culture:, so I say that we should go for Sistine while we can. I would burn the Great Engineer on it. If you don't mind contaminating the Berlin :gp: pool further with Great Artist points, its :gp: rate will be bolstered by yet another WoW. Sticking it in a border city will at very least protect our BFC.

I still like the Fish + 3x Fur site in the south, but we'll have to endure Barb' Galleys until we get Triremes up, which makes this a less than urgent proposition. Sorry - I can't recall the map precisely (away from computer), but would somehow like to get one of the Silvers before the AI drops a city down there.

I'm a little reluctant to bump Cologne away from Worker production as a general principle, but if it works better in practice to whip out some Spears, then I'll bow to the decision.

Also I'm still a bit of the mind that we need units more than infrastructure. As noted, the Ottoman Chariot rush could cause us a lot of grief if Suleiman does go WHEOOHRN and strikes within a turn or two.

I'm fine with the plan too. Like I said I'm not hot either about Sistine, but okay, in Berlin at least it adds a bit to base GPP and as noted helps with its culture. Speaking of which, maybe we should squeeze out some bud temples for a bud "cathedral" to help that along.

Culture-wise Franfurt should hopefully secure its BFC with a theatre and subsequent Globe.

And yes to some spears, don't whip Cologne though as it barely grows... As soon as we have CS this is probably the first place that needs some chain irrigation.

I'm not sold on Sistine either, but burning the GE on a national wonder isn't what I'd normally do either. So I don't mind either way (personal preference would be settling at this point I think).

Turnset is played

The round begins with me finishing orders for troops and readjusting some things according to discussion.

Btw that fishy spot south is in ocean, so no danger from barb galley as I understand it.

I sleep both great persons in Berlin... I am not convinced we agreed on the use of Great Engineer...

I MM frankfurt to get LH in 1T (we had there scientist assigned before)
Civ4ScreenShot1078.jpg

I settle Dusseldorf
Civ4ScreenShot1079.jpg

on the marble.

I wasn't sure with the workers what were some plans (for example in the north) so I tried to continue with the supposed spirit... :-)

I certainly will have to shift some force to our south west

I switch to full speed NE
Civ4ScreenShot1080.jpg

there will come some chops in 3T

Gustav wants OB, I decline
Civ4ScreenShot1081.jpg

Turns are boring...just mostly introspecting cities...

First spear built, hurah
Civ4ScreenShot1082.jpg

This one was tricky
Civ4ScreenShot1083.jpg

we miss 1T :-( but a couple of hammers only...
Much better, we get it in 1T
Civ4ScreenShot1084.jpg

too bad those unimproved tiles though...

I politely decline nice offer for trade deal
Civ4ScreenShot1085.jpg

The battle for Iron starts :-(
Civ4ScreenShot1086.jpg

55:45 culture for Russian...

Berlin back to growth
Civ4ScreenShot1087.jpg

6T for the GS

No we are not ready for War yet...
Civ4ScreenShot1088.jpg

I start Heroic Epic in Munich
Civ4ScreenShot1089.jpg

I was thinking about whipping the Theathre in Frankfurt
Civ4ScreenShot1090.jpg

but didn't we need that population for GPP abuse imo

I trade one of our furs away for 5 gpt
Civ4ScreenShot1091.jpg

I can't accept the invitation to war Nappy sorry :-(
Civ4ScreenShot1092.jpg

but that makes us his worst enemy though :-(

We could whip the HE, but not worth it imo
Civ4ScreenShot1093.jpg

We really lose the culture battle in the east :-(
Civ4ScreenShot1094.jpg

67:31...

We still have monopoly on the Music tech.
Civ4ScreenShot1095.jpg

It's already 600 AD and I have to stop (even if playing for 2 more turns would look more logical, but I think I would exceed my turnset too much)

We have banked some gold, 2 turns from CS and 4 from GS/GE in berlin.
I am leaving the save frustrated, because I didn't achieve almost nothing I wanted...

but such is life sometimes. I hope i didn't screw up much.

I rechecked the turn numbers again.... and as it seems i played 7 turns... I thought I played already 15 (this you have to believe me :-))!

(450 AD opening save -> 600 AD I thought by 10 turns is 15 turns, but in reality it isn't).
So I should have played 3 more turns...

But feel free to take longer set pigswill... we are nicely rounded now...

Thanks for the report. :)

Personally, I think you should 'dig deep' and find within yourself three more turns (minimum).

I also think that we need to determine a role for the Great Engineer. If you don't know whether to settle or hurry Sistine, we should thrash it out ... so long as we all agree at the end of it all that a hurry on Sistine is the right move. ;)

I understand your view and normally I would continue, but

- we're rounded turns now (I give away T140)
- we really need to discuss the issue in the east (i was expecting to actually have the upper hand with +5 cpt in frankfurt not reverse)

I think it's somewhat fine point though...

we can take it as half of my TS too and I would take more 8 turns, but the other day... for today I am finished ;-).

I feel frustration, but since my mistake with turns was explained (I really thought I played 15 turns without getting anywhere) i am fine with the situation I am leaving the empire ;-).

so I propose:
- discuss things
- let me run 8 more turns (and I would start the GA myself and handover in half of GA)

or

give the TS to pigs for 10 turns. S/he (I am not sure here!) will have 4 turns for GS, starts GA and will leave the TS to next player at the end of GA to adjust civics for next phase, which seems like fine plan imo

(Sorry - crosspost - please disregard)

I'm all for thrashing things out further and giving you between 3 and 8 more turns (whatever makes you comfortable).

I'm for hurrying the Sistine, but as mentioned, I think we should do it in a border city like Fishy. It would be a waste of all that culture the wonder provides in itself and would secure the border and get our iron back. I'm glad V did not burn the GE on the Sistine in Berlin. And considering that Globe will go in Fishy, then that keeps the GAs more in one place.

edit: hmmm...rushed Globe would be good too since it gets no bonus. I think we should still build Sistine in Fish. We can use some strategic whips to get it out faster and get a worker over there to chop/mine.

hmmm well then I go finish the TS now...

will move the GE to east for pigs to decide :-)

Not sure if you saw my post. I guess we should whip out 6 Theatres here pronto and get Globe up, while buildng Sistine in Fishy. With Globe, we can go whip crazy to get up Sistine.

I am building theatres anyway... will check how many we have and whip it if emergency or smtg

Sorry for the confusion. The TS is now finished and I hope you will really like it

Round continues with the task of finishing CS and preparing everything for pigs

T142 Civil Service home finally
Civ4ScreenShot1096.jpg

not stellar by any way

I turn off research (0% slider), but still paper in 11T ;-)
Civ4ScreenShot1097.jpg

According to Lymonds will i quick up a bit the theatres around
for example this way here
Civ4ScreenShot1098.jpg

I found some barbarian city, with unfavorable odds...interesting there is archer and warrior...
Civ4ScreenShot1099.jpg

Crossing fingers on scientist here!
Civ4ScreenShot1100.jpg

Aaaand we pop the GS!!
Civ4ScreenShot1101.jpg

We have 5 theathers finished, we lack only 1.
Our best bet is actually our new aquisition in south

The chop
Civ4ScreenShot1102.jpg

comes next turn
and we already
Civ4ScreenShot1103.jpg

have 20 hammers into theatre down there

Now I consider my TS finished... i achieved everything I wanted

those 56 hammers in SC in Berlin should be viewed more like gold... we get there 1:2 conversion rate, better then running wealth...
