Liq-01 Flaming Barbies on the Grill.

I'll see what I can do! I'll play my turns sometime tomorrow.

man bigman gibs is SCARY. holy hell he ran out of room for promotions hahaha.

as for the warmongering, if a unit isn't heavily promoted losing it to exp the next one in line is good... less upkeep.

This game was far too wimpy difficulty wise, My apologies, merz needs to start up the next flaming barbs with that insane barb mod after liq1 wimpers to a close lol.

Just too many good players in this SG to deal with mudane prince games.

Cheers!
-Liq

Sorry guys, the turns are taking a bit longer than I expected. I'll have finished the session tonight, but the report will have to wait until I've had some sleep. :)

Turn 0 (1690 AD)
- Preflight check: looks like Izzy's other tech is Banking. Lucky her.
- I veto the cathedral at Kill Barb as it will monopolize production there for little worthwhile result (do we really need 50% extra culture in our military city?). Grocer is a better bet as it has reasonable commerce, but I'm going to build some more military units first, so the city is retooled for a knight.
Kill Barb begins: Knight
- I change the maceman build at S&M to a grocer: there should be enough military in the area for protection, and it is a high commerce city so why not make the most of this?
SandM City begins: Grocer
- I stagnate 2 Rivers so that it can work the gold, giving us a quicker forge and a cash bonus! Must remember to reset growth afterwards...
- I order the governor at Minoan to emphasize commerce.
- I don't know why Delphi has been allowed to stagnate so I get it growing again.
- I change the build at Thermo from forge to Christian Temple, as this will be more profitable and will allow the city to grow without unhappiness and concentrate on its cottages. Tiles adjusted to work as many cottages as possible.
Thermopylae begins: Christian Temple
- Corinth adjusted to work more cottages.
- We are now running +23gpt on 10% science (and have gained a turn on Liberalism)! I use this financial surplus to turn culture up to 10% to counter war-weariness. Income drops back to +6gpt but unhappiness has been temporarily banished from our cities.
- Yikes! I've just looked at the clock and noticed that I've spend nearly an hour micro-managing and haven't even pressed turn yet!!! :crazyeye: Time to save and take a snack break methinks.
Bombay finishes: Forbidden Palace
Sparta grows: 5

Turn 1 (1692 AD)
- Now that the FP has been finished at Bombay our finances have gone up to +13gpt. Unfortunately, that's not enough to justify turning up the science just yet, IMHO (would cost -18gpt)
Bombay begins: Christian Temple

Battle of Khazak, using the meaty stack thoughtfully provided by S.ilver:

Confucianism has spread: Barcelona
Captured Barcelona (Isabella)
- Despite our "Scorched Earth" policy, I decide to keep Barcelona as it gives us a foothold on this silly little strip of land, blocks enemy units coming south, and has the Temple of Solomon.

barca3.jpg

Sure enough, we get a nice financial boost from Barcelona, to the tune of +14gpt.

The GNP is looking a bit more healthy, at last :)

NB: I dialed up Izzy, just to see what she would be willing to offer us for peace:

1720izz.jpg

Murcia is her penultimate city, but I decided to leave it open for the next player, in case we are going straight for all-out conquest. Good luck!

A bit info on my situation. My harddisk went kaboom. I will get new one, but that will have to wait till next week.

That is awful news, Zavior. I think everyone of us knows what a difficult time this will be for you, and we're very sorry to hear about your rig passing away.

On behalf of the Muffin family, I'd like to send you our deepest digital sympathies, and hope you manage to get through this upsetting time.

****************
I got the save. I'll feed some furry creatures that are headbutting my ankles, then will jump into the hotseat on this. Hoping to have the turnlog posted by this afternoon.

Those were some awesome turns, Scowler. So taking the cities with the two shrines actually increased our income... but I'm not sure how since haven't we razed most of the cities with those two religions anyways?

Pre-turn:
Everything is peachy. Our enemies are shattered, our greatest problem is the economy. Ever since we stepped out of the caves, our bank account has been in the dumps.
Hopefully we can turn this around, and cruise to an easy win shortly.
*Post turn comment, once again, Scowler left me a beauty of a turn to start with. No need to look for things to tweak, he pre-fixes everything for you!

Rockland finishes: Knight
SandM City finishes: Knight
Pharsalos grows: 8
Sparta finishes: Knight

1. 1722 AD
Liberalism is discovered.
liq515cf.jpg

I choose Printing Press as our free tech for the extra gold from the our villages.
Tech learned: Printing Press
liq526qx.jpg

I crank up research to 30% to get banking in 8.
Research begun: Banking

Rockland begins: Knight
SandM City begins: Longbowman
Sparta begins: Christian Monastery

Despite the fact that we are fighting a war still, Scowler pretty much won it for us.
I'm going to switch civics this turn in an attempt to reduce our expenses.
(Free speech/free religion)
Our main army has enough promotions to choke a goat, so we should be okay.
Besides, the numbers are clearly in our favor.

IBT: Maceman defeats (4.88/8): Barbarian Longbowman

2. 1724 AD
Seville is spotted by our Knight vangaurd for our main army!
liq532zw.jpg

Our eastern army heading south finds that it cannot take out that barb town from a flank attack to the south. I must withdraw this army, and do a frontal, but it was a good idea, whomever started it.

IBT: Izzy attacks our Knights on a wooded hill.
Knight loses to: Spanish Pikeman (2.76/6)

Barb attacks in our east,
Maceman defeats (8.00/8): Barbarian Maceman
and a barb horseman appeared out of nowhere and destroyed one of our workers.
Worker loses to: Barbarian Horse Archer (6.00/6)

3. 1726 AD
Civics change has been wonderful for our economy!
We are at +8 gold/turn, and I have our capital building a monestary (+10% research in our beaker city!)
Rexburg begins: Christian Monastery

I am still upset with losing a worker, but I intend to unleash the fury!
Knight defeats (10.00/10): Barbarian Horse Archer
*Never got the worker back, but I feel better now that he paid for his crime.

Keshik attacks a barb axeman north of Dehli.
Keshik defeats (2.76/6): Barbarian Axeman
Win!

Our remaining Knight attacks Izzy's crossbowman west of Seville.
Knight defeats (10.00/10): Spanish Crossbowman
Win!
Ground forces moving in towards Seville, catapults will begin taking down the walls. Many troops left behind in Madrid are still healing.

Delhi's borders expand
Minoan grows: 12
Delphi finishes: Market
Sparta grows: 7

IBT: Izzy attempts to stike back outside of Seville, but our Knight on a forested hill proves too much for her units to take down. Yay!
Knight defeats (6.60/10): Spanish Musketman
Knight defeats (4.50/10): Spanish Pikeman

4. 1728 AD
Delphi begins: Longbowman

Moving Eastern army closer to attacking that annoying barb city SE of Dehli.

Troops begin massing outside of Seville. Next turn I start working on the walls, reiforcements are on their way.

Banking in 5, running 30% research and still getting +4/turn
SandM City grows: 11
Delphi grows: 7

7. 1730 AD

Madrid comes out of resistance, and I rush the courthouse in this city.

It costs more than it is taking in. Will get it working on the cheaper theatre later.
liq597im.jpg

I MM Corinth to get that market built soon'ish. Once it's built, please place it back on growth.

Seville is ready to be destroyed next turn.

Knight loses to: Barbarian Longbowman (0.96/6)

10. 1736 AD
Rexburg begins: Worker
Rockland begins: Maceman
Madrid begins: Theatre

We have a great artist in Rexburg, we can use it to assist us in researching divine right.
I'll keep him in the city, the SG can debate about his uses.

Attack at Seville!
I use two catapults to bludgeon the defenders.
Catapult promoted: City Raider I
Catapult promoted: Barrage I
Catapult loses to: Spanish Longbowman (3.48/6)

Maceman defeats (8.00/8): Barbarian Longbowman

11. 1738 AD
Banking is researched
liq568ro.jpg

I begin researching economics.

My turn is all about the money it seems.

Research at 30%, culture still at 20%, +30 gold/turn profit

Magyar has a maceman defending the city, with a worker inside the city, but I lack the oomphf right now to destroy this barb city. Next player may have the pleasure.
liq572lh.jpg

Kill Barb finishes: Grocer
Deux Riveres grows: 7
Delhi finishes: Grocer
Delphi finishes: Longbowman
Madrid finishes: Theatre

12. 1740 AD
Kill Barb begins: Bank
Delhi begins: Christian Temple
Delphi begins: Granary
Madrid begins: Galley

I attack the barb maceman that took out our war elephant.
Maceman defeats (6.56/8): Barbarian Maceman

Not much going on, but I started a galley to allow the option of an naval invasion of Izzy's last city. We may want to roll through Alex though, it looks easier, and we need to take him out anyway to win with conquest. Good production in Madrid though, a galley in three turns! Nice!

Economy is much improved, and nobody can touch us now. This war was won before I ever got involved, I just tried to build up the bank account and push our research rate higher.

We can rush economics if you'd like, banks are started and we have cash for deficit spending, but the next player can do what he wants with the empire now. No more worrying about will our army disband in half a dozen turns or not! Ha ha.

liq5105wz.jpg

I'll end my turn here for a nice round number.

Hehe, I should have mentioned this. The army was actually heading north after sacking Cimmerian (nicely set up by S.ilver) in order to move round east to the other city, since I'd already noticed there was no direct route south. The problem is that, just like Civ3, Civ4 apparently reorientates all units to face south after loading so it is difficult to tell where they are heading. Glad my lack of explanation didn't faze you; that's a beaut of a barb city you've uncovered! :hammer:

Nice culmative turns there on fixing the bank account! I salute you both as the masters of money!

If Izzy truly did hole up on an island, we may want to sue peace for any techs we can get out of her, and then smash Alex into little pieces.

Oh, and since we can, it probably would be a good idea to revolt into Mercantilism. It's not like we'll be trading with anyone too soon, and extra specs are always welcome.

Just wanted to inform Liq that I have two longbowmen heading towards Mardrid/Barcelona to act as garrison. They will free up two promoted macemen when they arrive that we can use on our next phase.

You will also have one missionary built with no cities of our own to convert. We may want to put him near our western front, so that if we take Athens or something, we have him handy for the immediate conversion.

I forgot to mention that we have a new civic available. Mercantilism sounds great for us, I agree.

ok I'm awake turns tonight after sun goes down.. bright light bright light!

wow over 600 posts and no stopping liq.... batten down the hatches!

Cheers!

I'd definitely be happy to try an Emperor game with the same crew, whatever the map. Thanks, Merzbow. :)

Luv_Muffin said:
That sounds fun Merzbow.

What size map, with Islands?

I'm thinking Ice Age with small islands. Probably standard size. I've always liked Ice Age maps, usually I play narrow continents, but I think a naval game would be fun for a change. All other variables such as civ and variant rules are up in the air, we can hash them out when I create the game thread.

Why not:

Merz02 - Emperor Island Empire

I've reserved a space for all the currently active players of Liq-01. Please drop by the thread to confirm your space if you want to play. Game won't start for a number of days.
