Liq-01 Flaming Barbies on the Grill.

Taking Delphi was a good call, it is a nice city and occupying it takes pressure off Eagles Nest. I also think taking out Alex's last horse resource is important, but do we know where his iron/copper is at?

Research is taking a while, still. If we get another Sci Great Person, I propose that we create a science city specialist in one of our other cities. We may want to have more than one city providing beakers for us. (Whats up with that, btw?) Maybe monestaries will help with research, if we build them all over for the bonus. Not much of a bonus, but it may add up empire wide.

War with Alex! Yay! The peasants rejoice! (when war weariness kicks in, switch to a police state?)

hehehe funny post silver...

was seriously wondering when the first "bigman" was going to appear, was sad none made the grade during the ghandi fight.

and yes, lets go back and see... nope never warned anyone about your home wrecking skillz silver...

Guys, watch out, silver pees on the lawn!:D

As for alex, we so want feudalism if we can bully him out of it. Nice work on the war and nice setup on merz part as well.

Seriously this collection of peeps should be doing emperor level games... just too many opposing game play styles (to keep everyone honest) for mere prince to keep up.

Also the more I see of epic speed, the less I like. Think I'll play marathon from now on!!!!! ok not. Standard speed for sure, game is much more fluid.

As for delphi, it's a nice town merz, honest.. just needs a new roof and a kitchenette:crazyeye:

Need to go back to sleep, this flu is killing me still.. remind me next time to just skip when I feel this crappy :(

Cheers!

Will try to have the turns up some time today.

Just a small addendum...

Izzy has two techs that we don't have. We would normally be able to trade for our techs, but she hates our guts. Seeing as it's going to be difficult to continue to research at her pace, we may want to put together some Keshik groups and pillage Izzy's cottages to slow down her research. It would hurt from war weariness, but would help pay for our campaign against Alex.

Hey guys, i'm sorry for not being around here much recently but i'm afraid i'm gonna have to pull out of this SG due to a combination of other un-civ related commitments and technical problems which seemto appear every freaking week. I'll still be lurking around the SG section but won't be able to play any more civ for a while, my comp really struggles to handle it.

See ya

Sir Toma

p.s Kick Alex once for me;)

np sir T!!!!!

the barbs are all but gone now such that your role is complete :worship:

As it stands now is silver effing over the infra completely for merz and Z to clean up as muf and I think up new and improved names for our troops! Scowler on the other hand is too scared of our combined goofiness, he's ducked under izzys dress... how's the view mate?:)

Cheers!

:Slaps Liq with a wet kipper and goes back to Izzy-gazing: :p

The screenshot fairy evidently pulled a sicky during my turn as almost all my original shots failed to turn out. And there were some cracking action shots too :(

Anyway, on to business.

Turn 0 (1450 AD)
- Rex is at the health limit so I stagnate it by changing a fisherman into a scientist: 2 turns off Education!
- Liquidia is over the health limit to no real benefit so I put the citizens on a starvation diet to boost production and knock another turn off Education.
- As the growth at Eagle is already unbearably slow I work the iron to gain 2 turns on forge.
- We have stagnation at Bombay just so we can run an artist? Artist is sent to milk the cows, and our 2 IDLE workers in Bombay are sent to build a pasture for them (we need those 2 extra hammers!)
Thermopylae begins: Theatre
Deux Riveres grows: 5
Bombay grows: 6
Minoan grows: 6

Turn 1 (1455 AD)
- Hmmm. Barbs incoming at Delhi from the SE city. We could do with more defenses...

Turn 2 (1460 AD)
Kill Barb begins: War Elephant

Rexburg finishes: Notre Dame
Kill Barb finishes: Maceman

Rexburg begins: Angkor Wat - Now that we have our own religion I'm going to gamble on building this so that our temples can house some priests with holy hammers.
Kill Barb begins: Maceman
Delhi begins: Library
Crossbowman defeats (6.00/6): Barbarian Archer
Eagles Nest's borders expand
Bombay's borders expand
Bombay finishes: Maceman

Turn 7 (1485 AD)

Kill Barb grows: 12
Kill Barb finishes: Maceman
Maceman defeats (6.88/8): Greek Catapult
Maceman defeats (4.32/8): Greek Horse Archer
- Unfortunately, I had a slight :smoke: moment at this point. I moved the catapults closer towards Pharsalos, thinking that they were part of a large grouped stack. Alas, it turned out that only the cats and a maceman were grouped and the rest of the units had already moved, so the cats were left relatively exposed and Alex took advantage of this:
Maceman loses to: Greek Horse Archer (6.00/6)
Catapult loses to: Greek Horse Archer (5.10/6)
Catapult loses to: Greek Horse Archer (5.10/6)
I guess I could have counted it as a misclick and reloaded the turn from the auto-save, but I decided to eat the loss and carry on. In the end it makes no difference to Pharsalos that we are 2 cats down, but it will make the future assault on Sparta somewhat more tedious. My second attack of :smoke: is that I didn't build more cats at Kill Barb to prevent this kind of situation. Mea culpa.

Turn 8 (1490 AD)
Kill Barb begins: War Elephant
Maceman promoted: Medic I
Maceman promoted: March
Maceman promoted: Shock
War Elephant defeats (2.00/8): Greek Axeman

Turn 9 (1495 AD)
Rockland begins: Christian Temple
SandM City begins: Christian Monastery
Deux Riveres begins: Courthouse
War Elephant defeats (5.60/8): Greek Horse Archer
Kill Barb finishes: War Elephant
Eagles Nest finishes: Barracks
Thermopylae finishes: Theatre
Maceman defeats (3.20/8): Greek Horse Archer

Turn 10 (1500 AD)

Maceman promoted: Medic I
Thespis (Great Artist) born in Rexburg
Liquidia finishes: Maceman
Thermopylae's borders expand

Turn 11 (1505 AD)
Liquidia begins: Courthouse
The Battle of Pharsalos:
Maceman defeats (1.60/8): Greek Longbowman
Maceman defeats (6.72/8): Greek Phalanx
Maceman loses to: Greek Horse Archer (0.72/6)
War Elephant defeats (5.76/8): Greek Horse Archer
Maceman defeats (6.64/8): Greek Horse Archer
Confucianism has spread: Pharsalos
Captured Pharsalos (Alexander)
War Elephant promoted: Combat I
- Our new Great Artist could be used to expand borders at Pharsalos, but I'll hang on to him for the moment in case anyone has any other preference.
Maceman defeats (5.92/8): Greek Swordsman
Kill Barb finishes: Maceman
Delhi's borders expand
Maceman defeats (1.12/8): Greek Longbowman
Maceman loses to: Greek Longbowman (6.00/6)

Turn 12 (1510 AD)
Kill Barb begins: War Elephant
- Isabella demands Paper. It's no wonder she's furious if she has nothing to wipe the royal derriere. I point out that leaves are free...
- I whip a barracks at Thermo.
Bigman Gibs (Maceman) promoted: City Raider III
Kill Barb finishes: War Elephant
Delphi finishes: Crossbowman
Thermopylae finishes: Barracks

Turn 13 (1515 AD)
Kill Barb begins: Maceman
Delphi begins: Colosseum
- Alex has an iron mine NW of Pharsalos, so I guess this is a priority target.

Kill Barb finishes: Maceman
Bombay finishes: Maceman
Delhi grows: 4

Turn 14 (1520 AD)
Beware of Greeks bearing gifts?:

coward.jpg

Even though we want Feudalism, I'm not going for this as I don't believe we should sign a cease-fire until we have at least taken away Alex's iron. Besides, we now have another two cities of his in reach. And he was very rude to us:

insult.jpg

Kill Barb begins: Maceman
Bombay begins: Granary
War Elephant defeats (4.40/8): Greek Horse Archer
Heffalump (War Elephant) promoted: Combat II
Maceman promoted: Cover
Swordsman promoted: Shock
Rexburg's borders expand
SandM City finishes: Christian Monastery
Islam founded in a distant land

Turn 15 (1525 AD)
SandM City begins: Crossbowman
Maceman promoted: Shock
Maceman promoted: Cover

Notes:

- I've finished chain-farming up to Eagle, but we will need to replace a cottage and exchange mines for windmills if we want it to grow much further.

eagle.jpg

- We're due to enter the Renaissance Age next turn, and we need to make some decisions. Do we grab Feudalism and make peace with Alex right away, or capture Sparta and Iron Town first? My inclination is the latter, so that he is left toothless.

spartadefenses.jpg

- Our finances are still crappy, but I'm not too bothered at the moment because we are clawing money back with each city that we take. The key factor is our research rate: it doesn't matter how slow we are so long as Isabella doesn't become sufficiently advanced that our own forces are left obsolete. This is how things stand at the moment:

1525tech.jpg

She has been quietly building up her forces while we have been occupied with Alex.

1525power.jpg

It's only a matter of time before she attacks. I suggest that once we have taken Alex's iron, and if possible both Sparta and Iron Town, we should call a cease-fire, take a quick break to recover from war-weariness and shift our forces further south, and then concentrate on Isabella.

S.ilver, I didn't see your comments until after I had finished playing. I agree with your assessment, but would not want a war on two fronts until certain that Alex is no longer a real threat.

- There are also now 3 barb cities that we know of. One to the SE of Delhi:

swbarb.jpg

One N of Minoan:

nbarb.jpg

One S of Rockland:

sbarb.jpg

We will want to take them out at some point, but I think we have other things to worry about at the moment. Just make sure that the ex-Indian territories are sufficiently defended against incoming raiders.

incoming.jpg

Hopefully this analysis isn't too far off the mark. Luv_Muffin does this kind of thing much better than I do :)

And the report wouldn't be complete without:

1525demo.jpg

LMAO @ the negative GDP! I don't think I've ever seen that before. And our approval rate too... Down the tubes :p.

While I agree that we need to declaw Alex before turning our attention to Izzy (for safety purposes), I can't help but wonder if that Feudalism offer was a 1 time deal. I've had the AI offer techs to me for peace before that I've refused, and the offer has never come up again. Anyways, making sure that Alex is gasses is definately more important that Feudalism. We're going to be fighting on their territory anyways, not ours :p.

*snort*
Nice GNP! Oh boy!
Good turn, Scowler. Too bad about your screenshots, but hey, whatcha gonna do, right?

I agree, we drive Alex to his knees before we release him from our strangle grip.

Got the save, coffee just beeped at me, so I'll be back with my turnlog in a few.
Ciao!

Sorry for the delay. "Someone's" wife wanted to do chores this afternoon, so I grabbed my coat and washed the car after my turn was completed.
Posting now.

Pre-Turn:
Gee, what a large Empire we've given ourselves!
I like it, but we sure do dominate this map. Izzy will have to grow her empire along the maps edge if she wants to increase her size. No way that she can
even dream of matching our size now though.

Cities all look real good (Good work, scowler). Angor Wat will be built in 7, the globe should be finished in the next players turn (16).
Following Scowler is a real pleasure in a SG. He knows his stuff.
(I appologize in advance to any player that follows my turn in ANY SG!)
Heh heh.

Kill Barb begins: Catapult

I discover Corinth.
liq439uh.jpg

Alex has a catapult moving towards Pharsalos, and has a few units protecting
this city. Not sure what to make of it, but I keep the war elephant nearby to rub out his cat if he chooses to bring it forwards, and move our melee troops near to his city.
I give him a choice, if he wants to take Pharsalos, he looses Corinth. What will it be, Alex?

I begin bombarding Sparta, reinforcements should be in place once defenses are near 0%. I also try to move units into defensible positions around the city and spot a Swordsman Alex had hidden by the fog. No worries, really.

Rockland finishes: Christian Temple

2. 1535 AD
Rockland begins: Christian Monastery
Rockland begins: War Elephant

Alex is sending a lot of cats to counterattack us with!

I remove his swordsman outside of Sparta.
Maceman defeats (1.60/8): Greek Swordsman
I didn't want it getting in the way once we started our assault on his city.

Kill Barb finishes: Catapult
SandM City grows: 7
Bombay grows: 7
Delhi grows: 5

3. 1540 AD
Kill Barb begins: Crossbowman

I snuff out one of Alex's Cats near Pharsalos.
War Elephant defeats (4.40/8): Greek Catapult

I occupy Alex's Iron hill tile. (heh heh)
Maceman defeats (5.76/8): Greek Phalanx
liq440dw.jpg

Brian Bloodaxe wets his axe on a Phalanx for us.

Alex has closed in around Pharso's, but will take him out soon enough.

Sparta continues to be bombarded, and it's end it fortold by our mystics.

I decide to look at SandM city, and place a citizen to work on the Marble.
Globe theatre down from 14 to 6! Yay! SandM city really doesn't get a change in growth rate/production, so I think this was a wise decision on my part.

Kill Barb finishes: Crossbowman

IBT: Izzy demands that we convert to Judiasm.
liq455qf.jpg

Nope. She's getting an attitude.

4. 1545 AD
Kill Barb begins: War Elephant

This turn I took a peek to our eastern borders and noticed a herd of Barb Swordsman swarming all over our lands! I try to take out a few, but I think that barb city to the south is pumping out a swordsman every turn to send into and pillage our eastern lands. I want that city, in addition to the two of Alex's I intend to take this turn.
Stupid barbs. (Where's Sir Toma when you need him?)
Maceman defeats (3.20/8): Barbarian Axeman
Maceman defeats (4.40/8): Barbarian Axeman

IBT: Our enemies try to fight back.
Maceman defeats (5.60/8): Greek Swordsman
Maceman defeats (8.00/8): Greek Crossbowman
Maceman defeats (8.00/8): Barbarian Swordsman

5. 1550 AD
More of "Operation Sir Toma" in our eastern lands.
Maceman defeats (8.00/8): Barbarian Archer

Sparta is at 0% defense, I choose to use (it even rhymes folks) our cat to bludgeon Sparta before
I move in the boys for the steal. It may be ugly (Longbows, ewwww), but we should be able to take it)

Battle of Sparta!
Catapult loses to: Greek Longbowman (5.28/6)
Maceman loses to: Greek Longbowman (0.18/6)
Maceman defeats (0.96/8): Greek Longbowman
Maceman defeats (6.48/8): Greek Phalanx
War Elephant defeats (6.08/8): Greek Longbowman

We capture Sparta! Sweet.
bowkneelsuckers0oo.gif

liq462xn.jpg

(It comes with an academy, that's it. Nothing else, but who cares?)
It was a little more brutal than I thought, but I knew those Longbows were going to hurt.

Next is Corinth! Alex has already lost his Iron (I pillaged it, just in case).
Once Corinth falls, Alex will be at our mercy.
I take out another annoying cat that Alex puts in the field.
Maceman defeats (6.80/8): Greek Catapult

By the way- I promoted Brian Bloodaxe to Commando, just because it sounded cool. Heh heh.

Sparta begins: Theatre
Kill Barb finishes: War Elephant
Rockland finishes: War Elephant

I spot Athens.

Sending War elephants to our eastern front, plan on building up our military in that sector
until we have enough material to take the barb city.

What does he have to gripe about? Oh yeah, all these wonders and a war we are winning...
I can see why that would upset him. *grrrr*
Rexburg begins: Colosseum
Bombay begins: Library
Delhi begins: Barracks

More of "Operation Sir Toma" in the east.
Maceman defeats (2.88/8): Barbarian Swordsman

Barb Axeman and Swordsman are still south of Dehli, but we have troops moving in for close support.

Corinth is at 33% defense now, more macemen are closing in. Heh heh.

IBT: Barbarians attack our forces north and SW of Dehli.
Crossbowman defeats (4.20/6): Barbarian Swordsman
War Elephant defeats (6.88/8): Barbarian Axeman

9. 1570 AD
Rex wanted to grow after we adopt Police State. I stagnate it again (Would be angry with another citizen).
I make a merchant specialist to attempt to reduce our cash problem.
Does that ever not work! (-48/turn to -44/turn). Well, it can't hurt, so I do it anyway.

For some reason, Alex sent a catapult by itself south of Corinth.
One of our reinforcing Macemen attacks it.
Maceman defeats (3.52/8): Greek Catapult

Troop build up at Dehli, lots of healing to do, but soon we will have the means to send units south towards the barb city shortly.

Globe Theatre should be built next turn.
Minoan finishes: Globe Theatre
Pharsalos's borders expand

By the way- Our great artist in Rex can be used to help research Divine Right. Might be something useful for him to do.???

Dehli is unhappy, so I start it on a monestary.

I will keep working on the monestary though, just because.

Corinth is at 6% defense, it will be ours next turn.
Should we really stop our attacks after we take it?
I have moved a stack (2 war elephants, 1 macemen, 1 catapult + 2 medic macemen on the way),
and am sitting outside of the city walls now. We could take Alex's capital too.

For some reason, Alex sends a longbowman north of Pharsalos.
Maybe the same reason he sends catapults out alone. I wonder if he has ever played this game before?
I will wait for the bow to get off the hills, then will smote him with a 4x promoted maceman I've kept near pharsos just for this occasion.

Nuts! Okay, I don't take Athens this turn, will have to bring reinforcements down from the north.
I pillage around Athens instead. Will withdraw next turn, pillaging on the way.

Yeah, but it was a quickie.
After you read the rest of my report, you may feel like we should grab his other techs from him in exchange for peace.
It was finished in my turn, and I'd rather get machinery (or whatever) from him. It would help us long term, and help chase down Izzy's tech lead.

Alex's Garrison: 2 longbowmen + 1 phalanx
Our army pillaging: 2 War Elephants, 1 maceman, 1 catapult
* Notice the cultural border being pressed against Sparta. If we don't take Athens, we may have to drop a culture bomb on Sparta or risk losing that city to culture pressure. And I wanted to use the great artist to discover a tech. Hmmm... Our missionary may work here too.

We have a christian missionary just south of Thermopylae. I was thinking of converting Sparta, or one of our other unhappy cities in the area.
Use him as you see fit. I was hoping to produce more missionaries, but have been building a lot of courthouses (we so need these) in our cities instead. May want a few more troops to finish off Alex too, but I thought working on our deplorable maintenance cost was more important.
Too bad, we could have had Athens if I had just one more maceman before I started my attack!
Or at least I should have waited to use the cat for collateral damage first. Nuts! I am so not happy with that.
We may want to blackmail Alex for his techs, and go for peace instead of finishing him off. He is toothless now anyway, and we need to techs.
If we go for peace, switch our civics back to peaceful settings (and maybe save some money?)

A pair of workers are on the way to Pharsos, it needs improvements, and I want to build connecting roads to cut travel time between our northern cities.

University in Rex should add a lot of beakers to our one decent research city.

*I'd post screenshots, but "the boss" tells me supper is ready, and I'm supposed to join her. Maybe I will post screenshots later. ;)

Err... -55 gpt at 20% research with only 139 gold in the bank? Can we avoid getting our entire army disbanded?

It looks bad, nothing new, but that GNP is horrible, I agree.

I notice that our maintenance and civic upkeep is killing us.
Inflation too, but how do we reduce that?

Anyway, we can build the forbidden palace, make a few merchants, and if we bribe Alex for peace we may get his tech(s) and a lump sum payment.
As well, when we take Knossos we will get a mitt full of cash, leaving Alex with only his Capital city (I think).

We can build the forbidden palace, can make some merchants, and when we take Knossos we will get a mitt full of cash. When we bribe Alex for peace we may get some techs, money and can switch civs to representation & pacifism? Low upkeep is the thing, less expenses and until our courthouses and markets are built, cutting expenses may be our answer.

If imageshack was working, I'd post the finance screen, but it pretty much shows what I'm saying.
*Got screenshot posted this morning. Hope this helps our number crunchers a little.

See what I'm talking about? I got a whole slew of courthouses being
worked on, which will cut expenses, but we need to balance this with increased revenue from markets to boost income across the board.
I hope I got our economy started on the right track, and if we build the Church of Nativity we may earn a few more coins too from all the christian temples that are built. I didn't fix the problem (adding two of Alex's cities made matters worse actually), but I did get us started of correcting it long term.

If Zavior MM's cities (which I'm sure he is more than happy to do after I finish my turn), he may be able to move some citizens from working food tiles (I wanted to get some towns growing) and get them working commerce tiles again. I did this because I wanted the extra pop to be able to work those commerce tiles long term, while the extra pop worked food or hammer tiles for us.

Liquidia is on a starvation diet I'm told. I have attempted to provide more happy faces to that city, but unless a colloseum provides two happy faces when it is built, I think losing one pop should balance that city out.

It would be nice to take Knossos, even if we raze it afterwards. I'd like to grab Alex's workers, we need more blue collars in our empire. Our northern border needs infrastructure (we have workers repairing the east).

Seahawks? Sounds like football.
Anyone know when the superbowl is supposed to be on?
I hope Janet Jackson sings again, she was awesome last year.
