If you have a list of games you enjoy, please post.
I know that my list makes me look like a kiddy-gamer (not much violence, and no FPS), but I take them seriously. I made this list for a friend of mine, so if some descriptions seem obvious, please excuse me.
And even though they look like non-hardcore games, some of the system requirements can be pretty harsh.

Spoiler :
Sid Meier's Civilization -- We all know this.
SimCity -- I think we all know this.
Other SimGames -- I don't like the Sims. The "SimGames," however, most of them are decent. All older ones. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sim_games
"Tycoon" games -- e.g. Roller Coaster Tycoon, Transport Tycoon Deluxe, Zoo Tycoon, and a few others I can't remember at the time.
Horse Games -- I'll try nearly any one (except for the "Barbie" ones or ones obviously for little kids), but found some excellent ones made by a French company called Lexis Numberique.
CivCity Rome -- Combination of Civilization & SimCity set in ancient Rome.
Sid Meier's Railroads! -- It's a modernized version of Railroad Tycoon. It's not the best, but I like playing in the free mode and watch all the trains running around.
Safari Photo Africa -- This one's pretty neat. It's set in first-person, but instead of shooting guns, you shoot photos of animals. The animals will actually react to you (I once had a crocodile attack me cos I got too close to the babies. It was so realistic I screamed.)
Wildlife Zoo -- This is like Zoo Tycoon, except different. It's in 3D, like Zoo Tycoon 2, but it's good graphics, not really cartoonish. It's extremely realistic and you can play in free mode. I recommend getting the deluxe edition, it's got more animals and stuff.
Petz -- More of a "software toy" than a real game, but it's fun to see all the dogs and cats running around the screen.
The Oregon Trail Deluxe -- A kiddy game made for DOS. Very easy (except maybe the arcade games), so I try to see how quickly I can kill everyone off.
Other DOS games -- Crummy graphics, but they can get addictive!!!
SimCity -- I think we all know this.
