VLC media player can also do that, and it plays the media files as well.

Thanks (I said it before but one of the mods turned it into a new thread).

Okay, so I'm working with some documents, RTF files mainly. Is there some sort of online service that will periodically check it for changes and, if there's any, upload to a remote server for backup? Googled and not much help, got a few commercial softwares and ones that delete your data if you don't access it in a while (not good). Easy way to share with others is a good thing for me.

Thanks again.

You could put them on Box.net and edit them from there. There'd be no need for synchronization. The documents would not be available off-line though.

Dropbox gives you 2GB of free online storage, automatically keeps specified folders ins sync with the online storage, and tracks revisions, so you can roll back changes. The client is also works on multiple platforms and doesn't need admin privileges (at least under linux). It's pretty sweet.

Thanks both, will check them out

That does sound pretty sweet!

if you have a C2D based pc, RealTemp is nice. I think RivaTuner can also monitor CPU temps, although its mainly for GPU's.

Is there a program that takes an RTF (or text) file and counts the number of characters/words/sentences/paragraphs? Something like the Google Docs wordcount, except a program. Because sometimes Google Docs isn't always the most convenient.

Extra points if it can sit in system tray until I need it.

I looked through about 5+ freeware sites today and didn't find anything. Some stuff for SEO, whatever that means, but it counts how many times a word is used which is not what I need.

Thanks ainwood. :)

New question. Any good freeware programs that can convert wmv to flv for upload to a livestream channel?

Microsoft Word.

Is there anything that isn't a GNU tool?

1) I'd prefer to use my own word processor if it's possible. I notice that other ones slightly mess up the tab-indents.
2) I use Windows :mischief:

Thanks for the suggestions though

Under development I would nominate Crimson Editor. I love it because it is extremely simple and light weight and it has built in syntax highlighting for literally every single programming language I have ever used not to mention things like HTML and LaTeX.

Heard about a discontinued word processor called WordTabs and it sounded interesting enough to look up. I found the last version here.

It might fuss about some RICHED20.dll but the version I linked to has the correct DLL included just put it in the app folder and the "secret command" mentioned apparently nobody except the author knows and no idea where the author is.

Pretty interesting I'd say (the reason the text area looks yellow is because I changed it with the Windows setting to not be so bright)

Also would like to recommend a Vista theme, for those who use Vista Basic:
Vista Black

To install it you have to follow instructions closely. (I noted that as long as you didn't touch the transparency part of VistaGlazz, it worked okay on Vista Home Basic, when I had it.)

The reason I used it is because certain programs which I used frequently would keep switching to the basic theme and it drove me crazy, and the powder-blue also drove me crazy, so this is a compromise.

Sorry if these been posted, I did a search and got no results except for Paint.NET which I got some unrelated things :dunno:

Paint.NET, nice image editor. I use it often, instead of Windows Paint.

KompoZer -- web authoring.

qjot, word processor similar to WordPad.
