LK127, Monarch, Vikings, Hub Map

The best use for the GS would be building an Academy in Jelling (especially if Jelling gets a Uni and tiles retooled for max commerce). It can give nearly 50bpt (at 100% science) now.

1460 AD
I agree with Swiss Pauli on the Jelling academy, so I wake up the scientist and send him that way.

Our worker force is still pathetic. We have 8 workers, 10 cites, lumber mills coming on-line, still lacking roads, and haven't chopped the dead forest tiles.

We are still dead last in soldiers, yet Birka is way to large. Whipping is most effective with a small size city. I am going to whip it down to size this round.

I stop selling sugar to Rome to that I can irrigate the sugar heading our specialist farm. I cancel the lumber mill, and instead start chopping the forest to get ready for water.

Physics and $100 went to Brennus for Rifling and Corporation. We lack copper, so I have little interest in democracy. The best tech choices are steam power and biology. Both of those require chemistry, so I start research on that.

1484 AD
We have another GS from our specialist city. I will wait one turn to see what he offers after chemistry.
(IT) I go with biology next to grow our cities.

1490 AD
An academy is Bjorgvin is a bit better then a merged scientist, so I build our third academy their.

1535 AD
I select electric power as a place holder. Does this sound familiar?

=======================

Summary:
Despite whipping Birka hard we are still in dead last for soldiers. Sooner or later a war WILL occur if we can't get a strong military. We need to keep this city in either whipping or drafting mode for a long time. With emancipation starting to show we had better get the maximum whips out of it before we are forced to abandon slavery.

Rather brief summary as I have to head to work soon:

- At the start of my set we had zero Universities which, for a Space game, is :crazyeye: :smoke: :cringe: . We now have Oxford in Nidaros.

- I have traded out both our Incense for 16gpt each. Emancipation is starting to bite, so one deal may have to be cancelled. We have Democracy, so we could switch to a Free Speech/Emancipation combo, as we have most of the required research buildings in the science cities.

- Capac has Infantry, so we need to suck up to him (which means we should not revolt out of HR, his favourite civic). At Pleased, there is a 10% chance he'll declare war. At Cautious, we're toast.

- I founded Lödöse at the gold site. With Biology it will pay for itself soon enough.

- Staying alive. Brennus has switched out of HR, thus losing Capac's friendship. In order that the AIs are less likely to attack us, I think we should bribe them to attack Brennus. Vicky was game to DoW the Celt in my set. If the team agree to this strategy, we should get Steam Power from him before doing so (for Electricity).

As in we join the war to get MSS points to help our survival, or staying out of it?

Got it. Looked at it. My favourite tactic for staying alive/boosting power is to spend a few turns building cash instead of research, upgrading reasonable units and deleting naff units (to reduce unit costs). We could raise 2400 cash in five turns to upgrade. It sets us back a bit but not as much as being invaded. Haven't yet looked at whether we could raise cash by tech trading.

Capac is so far ahead in power that upgrading won't stop him declaring. I find it's better value to regularly check on each civ (and I checked HC every turn in my last set) and if one has enough on its hands, then it's zero research and mass upgrade time. That said, we have a decent cashpile so an upgrade or two of decent units wouldn't hurt.

Sorry chaps. I'm holding this up, I'm trying to finish wotm6 before March 15 deadline. It's taking longer than I thought (haven't been defeated yet).
If someone wants to jump in then I'll swop, skip or whatever LK decides.

I apologize for the uninteresting and rushed report:

1583 AD - Vicky has a Golden Age

1595 AD - We trade Biology to Cyrus for Steel, his WM and gold. He becomes Friendly

1601 AD - GS born in Mycenian. It will only take about 2 turns off Computers, so I build an academy in Haithabu.

1604 AD - Julius completes the Statue of Liberty, presumably with the Engineer that was born.

1616 AD - Hatty emancipates; anger gets worse

There was nothing interesting to take a screenshot of.

In terms of AI relations, nobody seems like they are preparing for war yet. Hatty will declare on Brennus in exchange for Electricity, but I was not prepared to trade that away just yet.

Computers is due in 1

Got the save. Had a look.
Cyrus is only one willing to trade atm (physics for steam?).
Cyrus also offering DP.
We're skint.
Our armies remain pathetic.
Also I'm not sure on research path after computers.
We're still running neolithic civics.

I wouldn't mind a good update in civics. Do we want to keep Slavery in order to whip out an army or do we want to convert to Emancipation to rid the anger?

I'm not positive, but I think the intention of the current tech order is to reach Robotics for the Space Elevator. In other words, Robotics after Computers.

If the anger is getting to bad, then revolt from slavery. As long as we can I want whip the GT city hard. I did appreciate getting some rifles on the map. I would like to go nationalism when we dump slavery, so that we can draft that city. That should still get us a few more units a turn.

That would make sense. Especially with our low production we need to be ahead of the AIs to get it. SE would go a long way to locking a space win provided we don't get drug into war.

The goal for Computers is to get Laboratories (and to learn off-AI-path techs for trading). Satellites are required for Space Elevator. On this map, I'd want to get to Industrialism early as we need the Aluminium to speed Apollo (or to know as early as possible that we need to fight to get some).

Labs in selected cities are generally the last things I whip before getting Emancipated; whether that's feasible for us I'm not sure as I've not look at the save (which I will do now).

Also, where would we put Ironworks? I'm thinking Birka, since it's got good production (in relative terms) and we can just let it grow whilst it's building the Ironworks. What say you guys?

Looked at the save, and I'd definitely make the Physics for Steam trade, as we've already sold Physics for other techs.

There's a Settler underway at Nidaros: I assume it's for the fishing village, but we've no boat to transport him in, so it would be best to start something else.

If we reconfigure the trades (cancel Insence to Hatty, trade it to Vicky for Furs, and sell Stone to HC for his 16gpt) then we can eliminate most of the unhappy faces (after Haithabu builds its market) and complete Computers in 1 turn. That being so I'd set the governers to max hammers and commerce, start labs and whip them when the next wave of Emancipation anger hits.
