I was lucky to catch this, as I don't normally read the out of pocket thread. I would have preferred notice under this thread.

Remember 15 peace (including phony wars) / 10 heavy war turns per round. STRICT 24 hours got it, total 48 hours to complete.

Win target: open

Planned wars - none.

I started playing the game, and have to ask:
:smoke: Why in the world did we found Aluminum Co in Washington? :smoke:

This cost us $4 per city that we spread AC to. IMHO the Wall Street city is the *only* city that should have corporations. We tossed a lot of income down the drain.

I founded Aluminum Co. in Washington. I don't really have any experience with Corporations, so I just founded it in the city which should build the Apollo Program and would need Aluminum first. I gather from LK's smilies (and some of his comments) that I made a mistake there:spank: However, as I understand it we only need to spread the Corp to a few high-production cities, and only if we don't get any Aluminum, which I highly doubt.

Each city with AC gets 6 beakers at the cost of 2 or 3 dollars. IMHO all cities should get the beaker boast. With AC in the WS it would have paid for itself in all cities.

1790 AD
Well the big question is who is Joao's target? He has too much on his hands. I really hope it is Charlemagne.
Saladin is afraid of Charlemagne might. This could get really ugly.
I give Saladin biology for communism, wm and $100.

What is sad is we never built Globe Theater. The only location with enough food is Washington, but I can't kill our number one shield city. Since we lack GT, I revolt to free speech to get more money from towns. We need to speed up our tech pace.

1792 AD
I don't understand why our workers are sleeping. We still have lumber mills without rails, and are shorting ourselves shields.

1796 AD
(IT) Joao declares war on us.
He steals some workers that we chopping the forest at our borders for free shields.
I should have signed the DP back with Saladin. We may have avoided this headache.

1798 AD
While kill Joao's SoD, we get a GG. I am going to create a military academy in Snaketown to push the quality military out even faster. It cost a lot of artillery, but his SoD is toast.

1802 AD
I sacrifice a few obsolete catapults to eliminate Joao's secondary SoD.

1808 AD
I kill another mini SoD from Joao.

=======================

New Updates

We have yet another SoD on the way from Joao.

Joao now has a destroyer shredding fishing boats near Boston. As soon as combustion completes we need to get some destroyers in play.

Got it for tomorrow.

Deal with Joao. Look to see if Charlemagne will be any help.

Whupped on three more Portugese formations of cavalry, artillery and infantry at New York and brought him to the peace table

Civ4ScreenShot0006.JPG

And that was that.

Got some more branches of Alcoa built - aiming for the high science output cities first. Every new branch boosted the income stream by five or six gold pieces so Alcoa is paying for itself and then some. Then tried to manage the GP points for an Engineer so we can build Mining Co in the Wall Street City.

We could manage the GP points for a Great Merchant so we can build Sid's Sushi next. That will make our fishy resources even more valuable. But a Scientist for Ethanol Corp may be more valuable.

Used the scientist at Washington for Electricity and then started for Industrialism. That was probably a mistake as we have no oil to build tanks and such.

Another 3.13 bug?

There is something odd going on with the Uranium resource. Even after Combustion I could not build any destroyers....There is a mined and railed Uranium tile inside our borders, but outside the BFC of the nearest city. So I tried putting a fort on the Uranium and that didn't help either. There is just barely room to drop a town to claim the Uranium is we want to challenge Egypt a little.

Got another Great General who became a Military Instructor in Snaketown.

I took a one turn revolt to Nationalism to deal with unhappiness and unhealthiness. We are still running HR so the added MP and the loss of two pop canceled out the unhappy penalty and the barracks in our biggest towns helped as well. We should probably revolt back to Free Speech and maybe Representation when the opportunity next arises.

Charlemagne dropped a culture bomb in the former Egyptian town near Boston. Fortunately it had no effect.

Once the war with Portugal was over reupped the Defensive Pact with Saladin. Maybe a case of shutting the barn door once the horse has gone into the next county, but perhaps it will deter the neighbors from another untimely visit.

I have been chewing over how best to get into space and I the best I can come up with is to use the Philosphical trait to gen up the right mix of Great Persons to build the appropriate corporations. We lack oil and can't seem to connect the Uranium. An option would be after Mining Co is beeline to Plastics while forcing Great Scientist points to build Ethanol. Then once that is accomplished make a try for the Three Gorges Dam. That will get us oil to both beef up the defenses and get the healthy points for Public Transport as well as additional science beakers.

New Updates

The reason we can't build destroyers is we lack fission. In order to use uranium in ships, you need the fission tech. This is one of the undocumented rules.

@Meiz - please get us back to Free Speech ASAP. We need the extra income from towns. Even after reading Bede's report I don't the reason why we simple didn't up the culture slider. Even a city or two starving IMHO is better then suffering two turns of anarchy.

I started by revolting back to Free Speech.

I think people should concentrate more on resource deals. I make deals to get over 60 gpt with our spare resources.

We built Apollo Program and Wall Street (income jumped over 40 gpt). Otherwise most of my builds concentrated on health buildings as that is our main issue at the moment. Spies are also guarding some of our important cities. Some cities started to build wealth at my last turns. Some should be changed to science as we are making profit with 100% research slider.

Ramsess built Eiffel Tower and Rock N Roll. Better than Gandhi building them.

Indrustialism came in and we have three sources of Aluminium (popped one later). Continued to Plastics for Three Gorges Dam. I dont think we should spread Aluminum Co. any further.

Some bad news as Washington produced Great Prophet  He is sleeping and waiting for a golden age.

Next GP would have camed from New York and with very high probability it would have been another Great Prophet. There is one plain cititzen hired just because of this.

Let's hope that Washingtons next GP will be GE (in 16 turns). If not, hopefully it will not be Great Prophet again so we can start GA.

Plastic comes in next turn. We should continue to necessary space ship techs with no diversion.

Saladin would cut his deals with Charlemagne, Gandhi and Roosevelt with price of Electricity. I'm not sure if that's any good idea though. There is no possibilities to bribe anyone for war. No one has enough on their hands.

Challenging times ahead :)

Edit: Some typo fixes.

Got it. This one might take the full 48 hours since I'm very busy this week, but I'll try to get this done tomorrow night.

New Updates

Can we get a mine on the uranium, for when we need it?

While I can agree with some towns on wealth, I disagree with having our HE / WP / MA city on wealth. Can we please start building military again in the city? While we are trying to win at space, we still want to keep increasing our power rating.
Charlemagne has too much on his hands. This is a good enough reason alone to more to push military. Charlemagne has a serious SoD by Boston. IMHO new infantry should be moving there every turn.

I disagree on Aluminum Co. Take a look at Poverty Point. We get 6 beakers (before multipliers) costing us 5.86 dollars (before courts). We gain science in every city. Please spread it to our remaining 6 cities without it. We now have slight edge over most the AIs, and need to push it harder. Joao is still scary, and could be us to space if we aren't careful.

I think we have a decent chance at TGD is we start in next turn in Chaco Canyon.

Win target: space race.

Planned wars - none.

The Race is on.

Charlemagne completed the Apollo Program in 1858 (turn 8) and Joao followed the next turn, with Gandhi following with the UN.

Aluminum Co. has been spread to all but two cities now. We got through Plastics, Radio and Satellites this turnset and I started on Composites for SS Casings (1 turn invested). Washington has started on SS Docking Bay, 18 turns remaining. Charlemagne and Joao have a few relevant techs we don't have, but we still have the edge. It's going to be a true Race though.

I'm a little worried about this:

Civ4ScreenShot0111.jpg

Even though I don't believe the AI goes for Diplomatic Victory very often and votes for Sec-Gen don't mean votes for Diplo Victory, it's still slightly unnerving.

EDIT: I will be away on a trip to Bristol and won't be available to play from Sunday to Friday 2nd November. I assume you guys will have this game finished by then, although it'll be tense to the finish. Good luck and thanks for a good game.

Labs are a key IMHO, so I change our tech path to that.
(IT) :crazyeye: We get another prophet. :crazyeye:
I am going to send him to our Wall Street city for a merge.

1866 AD
(IT) Lack of EP is killing us. I get another turn where spies destroy our mines.

1868 AD
AI workers amaze me sometimes. Charlemagne is replacing a watermill with a farm, and a farm with a watermill for the same city.
(IT) We had satellites stolen from us! We could still lose this one due to lack of EP.

1873 AD
Our new engineer forms Mining Inc to help with our production.

1874 AD
(IT) I spend $18 and empty the food in Boston to get a +3 diplomatic bonus with Ramesses.

1877 AD
Mining Inc saves 7 turns off of TGD.
(IT) We take three more hits from spies.
This includes another tech stolen.
I really wish we built the modern spy building before wealth.

1880 AD
I just learned an annoying rule. I can't give Washington Mining Inc because it founded Aluminum Co. This is another reason to build all corps in the same city, and that city being Wall Street.

=======================

New Updates
We could still lose this one. Spies are shredding us including techs being stolen. We are paying the price for not building all of the potential spy buildings. I worked on trying to catch them up, but it looks like premature wealth let the AI get to big of a jump.

We are behind in the parts race. We need labs everywhere, Mining Inc. in our good production cities, and a prayer for TGD. Also, a prayer for the Space Elevator.

Got it tomorrow. Post Saturday afternoon.

Maybe time to run some counterspy missions to get a breathing space and put spies in the border cities at least. Then build the counterspy buildings.

Two things happened of note, and neither one very good.

Civ4ScreenShot0000.JPG

was the first, though we did get a nice shot in the arm in the cash department so Robotics finished right on time, and that was the second thing, as all of our cities appear to be too far north to build the Space Elevator. I may be misreading the map but near as I can tell after testing Washington, Poverty Point, Chahokia, Mesa Verde and Snaketown, the Elevator cannot be built anywhere in our territory.

Got Laboratories and Security Bureaus up thorough most of the empire and Supermarkets where needed to prevent tipping over into starvation.

But we have a dilemma when it comes to spreading our two Corporations inside our territories - Mining Co will displace Aluminium Co. The hangup appears to be that since the two share a resource (coal) you cannot put branches of both in the same city. So now the question becomes, since we have Aluminium in spades do we trade the science of Aluminium Co for the hammers of Mining? Or just leave the Coporations where they stand? Mining Co is in all the higher production towns IIRC, already.

I did send a couple of Mining Co. executives abroad to Saladin and Charlemagne as both were running Environmentalism and I figured we could use the extra coin while their benefit would be minimal and the franchise fees (added maintenance) just might slow down Charlie's economy.

I got spies into everybody's territory except Joao, and ran counter espionage missions. There were no espionage incidents on this watch, but I am not sure it was the result of the counterspy missions or the added Security buildings.

Set the research course towards the Spaceship Engine, as that is the most expensive part and we need to get building on it soonest. Meanwhile we can build Thrusters and whatever other parts become available along the way to the Engine.

It is going to be a race, as Joao has is working in the parts and has a pretty good lead in parts at this stage.

Civ4ScreenShot0001.JPG

There is one spy still on a go command into Portugal to run a counter spy mission there. If we have accumulated enough points we may even want to try and steal a tech from him instead (payback time).

Traded Industrialism and Refrigerators to Saladin for Medicine so we could start down the Stasis Chamber path when it suits us.

There is a Prophet leaning on his staff next to Washington. I trust he is the one being saved for a Golden Age as he leans there still.
