LK135 - Dutch, monarchy, Hemispheres map

This was the outcome from my last turn-set.

civ4screenshot000185vm8.jpg

From all the available leaders again Hammurabi :crazyeye: .

I suggest the other players to replace the CvGameCoreDLL.dll file
and then continue the game with Yena's save.

I updated the dll. Had to since in another game my spies got kicked out of the enemy cities they were in when I declared war. I hope the latest patch fixed more stuff than it broke.

Turn 0 (345 Total): I change Nijmegen to a Confuc Missionary so Judaism won't spread to Hoorn. Changed Ulundi from Knight to Worker.

Turn 1:

lk135-mansa-astronomy0000.jpg

I think it sucks, no thanks.

Rush buy Missionary in Nijmegen, Granary in Neventer. Lowered slider to 50%.

Privateer begins his duty of drive-by pillaging

Turn 3: Find a city with prod of 1 :hammers: building a forge, change it to courthouse

Turn 4: Mansa put a missionary on a caravel and spread Hinduism to 's-Gravenhage. Just be careful if you see Churchill's boats in our waters to close borders since he owns Judaism and AP. He doesn't have optics yet though. I put Nijemgen on Confucian missionary duty and Nobmamba on Tao duty.

Turn 5: DeGaulle makes peace with Gilga. Gilga won't do a peace treaty without tribute

Turn 7: Steam power in, source of coal near Nobamba, mined and roaded already. Another source in Haarlem needed a road.

lk135-coal-nobamba0000.jpg

I start dikes in most of our coastal and river cities. Some I didn't if they had other tiles to work. Others needed granaries or lighthouses first. I lowered research to 0 to rush one in Amsterdam right away so not to delay SoL. Set research to Corporation for the extra trade route.

Turn 8: Caravel sinks Gilga's trireme. Cease Fire isn't an option, and he won't take peace treaty w/o tribute.

Turn 9: Rush Dikes in Amsterdam and s-Grave.

Turn 10: I MM in 's-Grave to work all the sea tiles and Amsterdam to work the water tiles. I fired the Engineer in Amsterdam but it made the city grow in 6 turns vs 17. 's-Grave lost some production but gained growth. East Indiaman sinks Gilga's galley and needs to heal.

New Updates
The price for peace with Gilgamesh is a lousy $10. I saw a complaint about wanting tribute, but IMHO $10 is well worth worrying about an unexpected surprise.

We are ready to research SciMeth next heading toward medicine for Sid's Sushi. Please check we have all the needed monasteries in place. A good example is Utrecht needed one turn for an Islamic monastery, but it is behind the dike. IMHO the monastery takes priority.

If we are going to burn cash on rushing slowing down our science pace, can we please rush the dike in Leiden? That would get that useless city some shields. Looking at the game, I would like to make rushing dikes in the island cities our number one priority for cash rushing. This is the best way to get those cities going IMHO.

We still need to spread our religion out there. There are a lot of cities missing our shrine religions.

All islands have dikes.
Churchill has Optics, but not Astronomy. We've to improve our military.

Some national wonders to think of:

Maoi Statues: Would do most good in Hoorn

National Epic: I think Ulundi would be the best place.

National Park: Enkhuizen was chosen. I usually make these into espionage cities.

Wall St: The Hague, easy choice

Oxford: Utrecht has most beakers

West Point: We're 50/60 to next Great General. So if we sink 10 more ships we could use GG to make a level 6 unit to open up West Point. 's-Grave is the obvious choice.

Ironworks: Hoorn would be 42 :hammers: at size 20 with Moai Statues

Our science rate is a pathetic 40%, but it looks like I need to keep it there a few more turns. There are still dikes that need to be rushed.

AI spies seem to love to hit my HE city, so I am going to sneak in a security bureau before going back to troop duty.

I agree with Moai in Hoorn. My vote for National Epic is our National Park city. We will run way more specialist in this city. I agree Wall Street in The Hague is a no brainer.

I just noticed a weird colony effect. IMHO this is another bug. Our former Zulu cities now have Babylonian culture in them!

New Updates
Once Wall Street completes, let's spread Sid's Sushi.

I almost got Confucianism in all of our cities. Taoism still needs a lot of work.

I've cranked science back up, as all of our island cities now have dikes and forges. They can now build the rest of there building naturally.

Our military looks decent, so I am not too worried at the moment. Once we get a better military tech, I would like to start pushing military again.

I don't want IW in our HE city. I think that is a terrible combination, as you keep wanted to build wonders in your HE city wasting that wonder. I don't want IW in Hoorn. Even with Moai, I don't think that will be our top shield city. I am open to suggestions, as Yena gets to start IW.

Got it. How about IW in Nobamba? Suggest researching railroad and combustion to build some destroyers for a decent navy.

I always keep tiles around my National Park city improvement free and road free. Forest preserves increase the chance of forests spreading which is another free specialist. They can't spread where there's improvements, and they're much less likely to spread to tiles where there's roads. You can pillage your own improvements but not the roads.

Nobamba sounds like a better choice for Ironworks.

A city on our most SW point would be profitable and get another fish tile for Sid's.

The Babylonian culture thing was part of the war bug. What I think happened is when Surya made a colony, the new colony was given Shaka's old stats. So Shaka's old cities got Babylonian culture and since we were last at war with Shaka it caused us to be at war with Babylon and Surya.

As noted in my previous post, I researched Railroads-Combustion-Assembly line, and put IW in Nobamba. The workers are busy building a railroad network. Once the oil well near Amsterdam is connected we can start upgrading the navy.

387: Steel -> Railroads
319: Great prophet. I think the best usage is to keep him around for another GA, so I (quite intentionally) put him to sleep in Ulundi.
390: Starting IW construction in Nobamba
393: Railroads -> Combustion
395: I build a new fishing village on the SW tip of our continent.
397: Combustion -> Assembly line
BT: France offers rice for coal. I decline, but keep in mind once Sid's is up and running.
398: Wall Street -> Oxford in The Hague.
400: I suddenly remember that Sid's HQ is in The Hague and that building Oxford instead of managers is perhaps a daft move. Inserted a manager in the build queue, but perhaps it would be better to finish Oxford first?

Mansa has researched Physics, the others are far behind.

The religious spread looks pretty good, but we still have a few stray cities needing our religions.

I would like to grab communism and fascism soon. You can never argue with free great people.

I'm feeling very ill at the moment and looking at monitor more than 5 minutes is out of question  Could Njorls make a swap with me?

I can swap and play tonight. Here's my thoughts

I'm not sure if we want Oxford in The Hague since Wall St is there. Would rather see it in Utrecht. Hague could run merchant specialists with food surplus from Sid's and Utrecht can run scientist specialists. They're almost a tie in beakers.

Rifling is a 3 turn tech for us, noone who has it will trade it. I'm thinking of detouring for that so we can build infantry.

Then it's communism for Great Spy. I'm thinking of building Scotland Yard in Ulundi and making that our spy city. We can build the other 3 spy buildings and hire 6 more spies there.

Do we want to try and slow build The Kremlin? Maybe some stupid AI without combustion will trade us stone for oil.

Then Fascism for Great General. Can do 3 things with him: settle right away in HE city, make a level 6 medic opening up West Point in HE city (with MilTrad), or build military academy in HE city (with MilSci). I like the medic3/west point option the best.

Nobamba's windmill and 2 cottages will be turned into higher :hammers: improvements.

I played 2 turns. Finished Assembly Line and saw:

Civ4ScreenShot0047.jpg

That doesn't look good, he can land a big stack next to our HE city next turn.

I can upgrade an axe in the city to machine gun, and the catapults to cannon. We're 2 turns from rifling and 1 turn from oil being online.

I uploaded the save so others can take a look.

Actually the oil is already connected, but it doesn't help us now. Lower the science rate, ask everyone for as much money as possible, rush-buy the machine gun, move the chariot to the HE city and make him a knight, upgrade all troops in the city and pray. Also, try to move our ship onto the sea tile SE of the city so that he can't attack directly from the sea. It would be easier if he landed on the tile next to the city so that we have a chance to rush-buy another defender before the attack.

 9 galleons
Losing our HE city that is also a shrine city would be a major blow to us.

I agree with the emergency troop build, and upgrade as much as possible. In addition, I would drop the science rate to the minimum for rifles in 2 turns. After that I would shut off science until the crisis is past.
I would also strip some of the other nearby cities to follow the galleons. I can't look at the game right now, but IIRC we have some cities on the opposite coast that can be moved there.

There is one cheesy tactic available but I think that goes against spirit of the game. If we ask some gold from Churchill, he is forced to 10 turn peace deal.
