LK151 - WM, where are we?

Summary:

IIRC America has more than one wonder we want. I don’t have time to bring up the game to figure out the other one.

I was glad to see all the new foreign workers to offset the extreme worker merging. Once rails arrive we will need an obscene number of workers.

That was great process vs. America. I never thought we could add the Sioux to the mix that put them going in way to many directions at once.

ROSTER:
LKendter (on deck)
Greebley
Northern Pike
CommandoBob (up)

The Americans also have Sun Tzu, which conveniently is in Seattle along with the Great Lighthouse. And they have the Great Wall, but it's obsolete and not a Wonder trigger for us.

I was glad to see all the new foreign workers to offset the extreme worker merging.

Yes--in fact, we added so much new worker capacity, between builds, razing, and a few trades and purchases, that our net loss of capacity was only eight native-equivalents, despite forty-six merges. We'll make that up, and far more, long before we can build rails.

Notes
Washington will fall soon and be razed. The Great Wall will be gone.

Washington will be replaced, probably 1E of where it is now, which is CxxC from Randolph Carter and on a river.

3NE of Boston, still at CxxC from Randolph Carter and also on a river, is another potential site. Capturing Boston would then isolate Seattle from direct land reinforcement.

Waiting three turns before attacking Washington and then being in place to grab Seattle in the next turn set appears to limit our western offensive. We might be able to acquire Boston before these turns are done, but Chicago, Baltimore and St. Louis will be untouched. That is fine, the prize is worth it.

We have two settlers in Randolph Carter.

Our Eastern forces should be able to raze/replace Hunt Valley and then capture Sante Fe. We have only one settler with our Eastern forces.

We have six settlers right now. Need to end with six settlers.

The cheapest we could buy Music Theory for is 2045 from the Sioux, though Persia would swap Banking for it.

These are the biggest things to me that Northern Pike did not cover in his notes.

Yes, an agenda of Washington, Boston, and (almost) Seattle looks good for your round. On a fairly relaxed schedule it should be possible to make all three attacks with good bombardment support. We could push harder, but that would involve unpleasant risks to our armies or to our independent knights. The closer we are to upgrading our knights to cav, the fewer chances we should take with them.

The cheapest we could buy Music Theory for is 2045 from the Sioux, though Persia would swap Banking for it.

On reflection, my idea of delaying our acquisition of Music Theory was probably oversubtle. We should grab it from either Persia or China while we can still have it for Banking (so before we hit Enter, to be safe), and won't have to surrender the more valuable Metallurgy, or gold.

JS Bach's Cathedral

Heliopolis (12), Egypt
Berlin (10), Babylon
Washington (12), America
Oto (6), Siouxdom

Is this the number of turns to build it or the number of shields each city has?
City investigation isn't too expensive if we have some cash and if these are shields.

Edit: With Washington out of the way the biggest danger would be Heliiopolis at 12 shields.

The numbers are city size.

Heliopolis only has eight land tiles including its centre tile, plus a whale. Berlin doesn't look very well developed for shields, and will have some corruption. Babylon's Newton build in Babylon city is probably ahead of our pace, but should just bring them Newton unless something odd happens. I may have been too cautious earlier--this should work. :hammer:

Since our palace pre-build in Brasilia involves a not-quite-sustainable food deficit, we should probably assume that we're thirteen turns away from Bach, not twelve. Thus our goal would be to take Seattle in 770 AD and complete Bach on the following interturn.

The problem with taking Seattle early is that it could flip on us just as we complete Bach--which based on recent results is a much greater danger than that the Americans will reconquer it in combat.

Turns played; will post turn log and such tomorrow.

JS Bach's is 14 turns away in Heliopolis.

We have 288 shields in Brasilia and we need 312 more to complete JS Bachs, we net 26 spt and we gain the 312 in 12 turns exactly; no leftover.

I will mine at least one mountain around Brasilia for a +2 shield boost when worked. Maybe we can shave a turn or two off of our build time. We have plenty of workers to add into the city when it starves.

I don't like having only a turn cushion on this build.

American Core Expansion 0740 AD
t0740_AD_02_AmericanExpansion_zps9213ad27.jpg

Washington has been razed and replaced. So has Hunt Valley and Sante Fe.

Artifact Archive has 3 cannon, 3 Musket and 2 Knights inside it. Harry Houdini's Wallet has 9 Knights and 1 Musket. An eKnight is under the Army 1SW of the city. Randolph Carter 1 cannon, 1 Musket, 1 Mace, 6 Knights, 2 Settler and 12 slaves. Wilbur Whateley, a bit to the east, has 2 Muskets, 2 Knights and 1 Settler.

Heliopolis
At the start of my turnset JS Bach's Cathedral was 14 turns away in this city. Nine turns later, as it got closer for us to capture Seattle and complete Bach's, I decided to end a turn early and give the next player two turns to prepare for Seattle, Bachs and triggering our Golden Age. I thought it would be good to know exactly how close Heliopolis was to finishing Bachs, too. I did not expect them to be 13 turns away. Good for us since the time crunch is not present, by my-oh-my, what did the AI do? Egypt started as a Republic and is still a Republic, so that seems to rule out Anarchy.

So I checked:
  • 650 AD: 14 turns
  • 660 AD: 13 turns
  • 670 AD: 12 turns
  • 680 AD: 11 turns
  • 690 AD: 9999 turns, Egypt in Anarchy
  • 700 AD: 9999 turns, Egypt in Anarchy
  • 710 AD: 16 turns, Democracy
  • 720 AD: 9999 turns, Egypt in Anarchy
  • 730 AD: 9999 turns, Egypt in Anarchy
  • 740 AD: 13 turns, Republic

Wow.
Just...Wow.

Attacking Seattle
We have a Settler in a jungle under an Army 2N of Seattle. Our Cannons and Trebuchets are 1SE of there, also protected by an Army and some Knights.

My plan of attack is perhaps a bit too clever. The cannon and artillery stack move 1S next turn, onto the hill NE of Seattle. The following turn they bombard Seattle. After the bombardment we build our jungle city, which brings our borders closer to Seattle. If the Knights next to Seattle need help, reinforcements will have less American land to cross. The current Knights in Harry Houdini's Wallet would be able to move two road tiles into the new city, move 1S and then attack Seattle, and when the city fell, not be exposed to counter-attacks. I haven't built this city before because 1 tile would be claimed by Seattle and increase the flip risk.

There are also Knights and Muskets on their way help out.

Trading
We sold Banking to Persia for Music Theory and 10 gpt on Turn 0, 650 AD.
Sold Philosophy to Argentina for 95 gold in 670 AD.
Sign Venezuela back into the war on America for 60 gpt in 680 AD.
Buy Silks from Venezela for 63 gpt in 710 AD.
Sign Australia onto the unAmerican bandwagon for 30 gpt, also in 710 AD.
Sell Republic to Zulu for 264 gold in 720 AD.
Sell Theology to Mongols for 10 gpt and 127, still in 720 AD.

We have 17 more turns left on our Silks deal with Venezuela.
And 17 more turns with our Australian MA vs. America.

That limits us to just pounding on America during most of our Golden Age. It will be a while before we can move north against Venezuela and Australia.

Random Stuff
Newcastle, off to our NE, lost a Spear defending and a Sword attacking last IBT. Must be Zulu.

Fine precise placement of the new tactical towns in India/America. :goodjob:

Your entertaining analysis of Egypt's Bach build in Heliopolis doesn't mention one thing: the 650 AD screenshots show that they were in their GA when they decided to go through anarchy twice.
